Wow! Your analysis ma'am is SPOT ON! Bono said himself that he originally wrote this song to be more of a gospel song. You're absolutely correct. That's awesome. Also. There is a gospel version that Bono did with a Harlem choir. You should look it up
Quincy Jones was asked in an interview decades ago what groups are gonna be big. First one he said was look out for a Irish band called U2. The rest is history.
One of the few bands that brings tears to my eyes when I hear them. The lead singer is so intense and full of passion and they are one of the greatest live acts ever. In the 80s, in the midst of spandex pants and men with big hair and make up these guys blew up and dominated the scene doing their own thing, were giants above everyone else at the time. This is the version of the song you want to hear with the choir from the documentaryua-cam.com/video/M8Wt3dhF4fU/v-deo.html
@@StephanieLee48 oh yeah, I've seen recording of this. It's a little famous. I think they used a Harlem Choir. It's very powerful in sound and feeling. It's not the only time they use full choirs in their music. If you don't know the history of this band , they started off at the end of the punk scene in Ireland, their first hit was Sunday Bloody Sunday. An anti-war protest song about the IRA bombing era they grew up in. As their career progressed though, they really displayed an enamor with black culture and music in America. This includes a song specifically about MLK and a pretty decent duet with BB (When Love Comes to Town) and several recordings with the Harlem Choir.
It would be great if you watched “Where the Streets have No Name” video live in Las Angeles! Really interesting, the song was released in 1987, I’m feeling my age! I had no cellphone or computer back then, lol. I wish I could go back in time at times. This song and time in history makes me feel very nostalgic. ❤️
I have been a U2 fan for just about 40 years now. It wasn't until their Joshua Tree album though, that I realized that they were basically a Christian Rock band, one that didn't adhere to the musical or lyrical formulas of that genre, but instead were just about the best Rock songwriters/musicians on the planet. Going back through their first several albums you'll find at least half of their songs include references to the Bible and Christianity. At concerts they would close with '40' and tens of thousands of young people would knowingly or not be chanting in reference to Psalm 40 as we finally left the building. This song is more direct with... You broke the bonds and you loosened chains carried the cross of my shame, of my shame You know I believe it But of course Rock n Roll is all about the double entendre, so reading the song as a whole, it absolutely can be about looking for the love of a good woman too!
Remember this man met his wife at a v young age. And is still with her until this day. He’s talking about everybody looking for things in the places in Vegas
I was in Las Vegas (downtown) hanging out with my Uncle when they filmed this video and was fortunate enough to meet the entire band during filming.....needless to say U2 instantly became my favorite band....this wasn't filmed on "The Strip"
Was trying to think of you both as I was recounting wonderful Game of Thrones Reaction people. Hope all is well. Love you as a couple. Have a glass of wine on me !
You broke this down in a way that I'd never taken it. It is a spiritual, and there is a version from Rattle and Hum where they do sing with a Gospel choir (very good!), but I never saw it about the subject trying to fill something. I always took it as some external thing being missing. I always took it as there is this external idea of God that is presented to you in a fairly technical way if you grow up with any religious training at all, but he keeps missing that when he goes looking for it. Like maybe God is a lot more mysterious than we're taught in Sunday school, and it's hard to see him when you are frantically searching, using a formula that someone handed you. But I like your analysis better. It's probably closer to the truth than my clunky explanation. I've listened to this song a thousand times, and you just gave me new eyes and new ears. You are a wise woman, and a LUCKY man. Thank you.
So many great songs! I’ll add When Love Came To Town with B.B. King along with the other suggestions in the comments. Pride is about MLK, another one to checkmout❤️
This band does enjoy the style of black American gospel, they adapt it frequently, and really I think they do a fair job, but it's a powerful music style that's hard to fail (although there's some bad butchers of it in rock and pop) U2 had some big chops in those old days. That guitar hit a tension through the whole song that sort of contradicts the release and strength of the lyrics. That's a good thing in this case though. It's nice to see you guys making videos still. Staying positive. I first found you way back when you did some Tool reactions. That was very powerful. Sip on Sippingtons
I grew up listening to them in the 80's, the whole album Joshua Tree, and their delving into gospel music... Many years later I learned they were actually from Ireland
I’m sipping on white Zinfandel and my husband is drinking Budweiser. So excited you reacted to this video!!! I love watching your facial expressions. Steph, at first you looked very concerned or upset in the beginning of this song and then you seemed to relax at the end of the song. Jay, your facial expressions totally showed that you enjoyed this song, especially at the end. Hope you react to more U2 videos!!!! Really love your reactions!!!
I lived in Las Vegas when they made this video. Kinda nailed a lot of us in Vegas at that time. But you nailed your analysis, many of us lost that way, in my case I was in my 20's, and really trying to find something, just not sure of what. If you notice in the video, they're being escorted by Las Vegas Metro, Downtown was a very ruff place back then. Loved your review, keep going.
Thank you both. I agree with your assessment of this song. I grew up in Las Vegas so I have always loved the video. They Filmed this at 2 o’clock in the morning on Fremont Street. So I think what they were trying to say is They were trying to look for it in the wrong place. The guitar player is the Edge . Love you both thank you so much for sharing this.❤️😃👍✌️🌼 Love and peace🥂
I love the reaction and the analysis. The Bible teaches us to forgive others and that's hard enough as is. What's even harder is learning how to forgive ourselves for what we have done in the past. Only thru great effort can we achieve it 💪
Wow! From heavy metal to rock. The range of your musical discovery is all over the place! Love it! I think you should react to 'In a Little While' and another U2 classic called 'Out of Control' Live at Slane Castle 2001.
It's a prayer that is saying I have looked in all of these places that have offered so much in terms of happiness, but I haven't found what I'm looking for there. I have even looked to God for happiness and satisfaction, but I haven't found what I'm looking for there either. What is it we are looking for? And where do we think we are going to find it? Our lives are going to be hard, and in many ways will not give us what we want. We have to look for those things that will mean the most to us in the long run. Do we have a family? Do we have a grand child? Do we have a wife or husband? Or do we have a special pet? Where can we find what we're looking for when we keep looking in the places that we THINK we'll find it, when what we're looking for is inside our hearts?
First may i just send blessings from Ireland to you two, you seem like a lovely couple, I've also been blessed with a smart, funny, kind, courageous, beautiful woman like you mate who honoured me to become my wife and we have just had our first child called Fiadh (pronounced Fia) and I'm trying to be a better husband everyday and I'll try to be a good father, praise Jesus for our miracle, being Irish U2 mean a lot to me and their music the soundtrack of my life, there is a U2 song called 'Ground beneath her feet' and it is 'our' song, please could you take a wee listen, thank God for good people like you, you guys ever want to visit Ireland, we'd put you up in one of my Auntie Marie's or Auntie Una's holiday cottages, it would only cost your airfair and my family and us being Irish you wouldn't be allowed to put your hand in your pocket for dinner or drinks, our guests are made to feel like family, we do things the old way, which i truly believe is the best way, although i am Irish as is my father, God rest him, my mother Ichika is from Kanagawa Japan and she is the most amazing woman walked this earth barring the Virgin Mary of course, my wife her only equal and you seem a lot like my mother, i believe you would become lifelong friends, you mate i wish my father still here because he was some craic but my uncles cousins and meself i believe we would be lifelong friends also, whats the point being friends if it's not lifelong truthfully like, anyway open invitation and if you could listen to 'ground beneath her feet' by U2, the song that played the very moment my wife and myselfs eyes first met, the day after, we didn't do anything, i remained fully clothed.....for 6 months lol no joke, anyways, God bless ye and your clan yeh 🙏 ❤ 🇮🇪
Hi Steph and Jay! I’ve told you before that I really enjoy your content, reactions AND your production value! I understand you both have your jobs and are out there working. I wish I could see more of you two but I understand, my wife and I both work full time. I just want to see more! ❤️ I know you get so many requests but can you please mark down somewhere “Bob Seger”. I think you will really enjoy him and his music 🎶 a good tune to start with would be “Night Moves” or “Like a Rock” or even “Come to Papa”. The one song you need to do at some point is “Roll me away”. In any case please check him out. I’ll continue to look for new reactions as I think you two are some of the best out there! Fun, great production, great drinks 🍹;) and so much more! Talk soon, Kevin
This band is a legend and always stand and support good causes for a very long time, they also performed in Live Aid 1985 same concert Queen were in. U2 is amazing live and put on an flawless show. Can anybody explain to me how Bono and U 2 can sing in the middle of Vegas and only a few people notice. I just don't believe that. How did they do that?
Belated Happy Birthday, Steph. Looking back, I can't tell you the number of times I watched your reactions to System of a Down . Those were my favorites. A few months ago, you reacted to Tool's Fear Inoculum. Great song and you did great with the analysis. You made a comment about the drums. Drummer Danny Carey has electric drums in his drum kit. He is amazing. Please react to this awesome drum cam video of Danny drumming to Tool "Pneuma" (live). He makes it look so easy! Link: ua-cam.com/video/FssULNGSZIA/v-deo.html
Have a look at their song 'one' but not the UA-cam boring version try to find the original original I think it was in monochrome and featured wild animals in Africa and other stuff- I can't remember the specifics but it was in 1994 - working out in the gym watching and listening to early days TV music channels on monitors - To me its the only decent song they made - Keep sipping guys!
Hi! I am a Spanish subscriber. I would like you to react to *JAQUE AL REY - Belén Aguilera feat. Edurne* She is an incredible singer, songwriter and pianist. I know you will like it. Greetings from Spain 🇪🇦
OK man, I get it. . .YOU FOUND IT. . .But, mostly it ISN'T out there. . .I speak from experience. . .I have to find a woman who isn't PERFECT. . .So, she'll lower herself to spend time with me. They almost DON"T exist. . .I've just about given up. . .Just not worth it. . .Good for you, man. . .
Bono singing at the peak of his vocal range, the band on its way to mega stardom, also, rest in peace Greg Carroll from New Zealand.
"When all these colors bleed into one".... Powerful lyric.
This is my absolute favorite U2 song!
One was voted the number one lyrics song of all time. He’s a poet
Wow! Your analysis ma'am is SPOT ON! Bono said himself that he originally wrote this song to be more of a gospel song. You're absolutely correct. That's awesome. Also. There is a gospel version that Bono did with a Harlem choir. You should look it up
She got it. Her thoughts are point. U2 songs have many interpretations. But this is a Gospel song.
Yea she was!!
Quincy Jones was asked in an interview decades ago what groups are gonna be big. First one he said was look out for a Irish band called U2. The rest is history.
The song in U2's own words is a gospel song with a restless spirit
In the name of love is their song about Martin Luther King.
And also MLK on the unforgettable fire LP
In their docuconcert film “Rattle and hum” they visit a church where the choir sings this song. You’d like it.
I subscribed cause U did U2
first time watching you two. Good people, full of soulful wisdom. Love.
One of the few bands that brings tears to my eyes when I hear them. The lead singer is so intense and full of passion and they are one of the greatest live acts ever. This video was filmed in downtown Vegas, not staged, made it look they were street performers.
They performed this song with a choir, in a church, in Harlem, in the rock documentary Rattle and Hum.
Loved this song as a kid.
Wow I love your analysation of the music fantastic beautiful and truthful
The wife was right. Beautiful reaction.
OMG, you should watch "Sunday bloody Sunday" by U2. Their best song. Oh, and "Pride" is an absolute must also.
btw when they toured for this album in 1987, in NYC at MSG they actually had a choir on stage . i was at that show
😮😮
@@StephanieLee48 oh yeah, I've seen recording of this. It's a little famous. I think they used a Harlem Choir. It's very powerful in sound and feeling. It's not the only time they use full choirs in their music.

Its a song about bono's faith
You guys as a couple make my heart happy :)
You should do a reaction of Sevendust.
Great analysis. It's somewhat open what he's looking for, but I think generally he's looking for meaning in life.
Remember this man met his wife at a v young age. And is still with her until this day. He’s talking about everybody looking for things in the places in Vegas

Check out suicidal tendencies Trip at the brain!, It's throw back.
It's a great song I know well but I hadn't seen the video. I thought the video was distracting and subtracted from the song.
Listen to Sunday Bloody Sunday. It’s about the IRA bombings
Look for the live version from Rattle & Hum, Bono speaks in the middle and explains the song and his view of the Irish “revolution”. Very powerful.
You’ll love this one with BB King!
