Jean, some of the best songs of all time, great lyrics, saw them in Sydney a few years back & also saw one of the best drummers i have ever seen in Adam Clayton.
As someone from Ireland I grew up listening to Irish rock bands which we have many .. of course U2 are top and my fav by far and their concerts are just something everyone should see and in Ireland as give it more on stage.... been lucky to go to their concerts over the years and grow up with this band ... proud of our Irish bands like the Stunning , Something Happens , Bellx1, The Frames , The Cranberries and many more ... for a wee country we sure give the World music
This is one of the best songs ever IMO, but like others have mentioned, my personal fav is BAD Live at Live Aid concert. One of the best live performances ever.
U2 is very special. Here are a few other good ones: One, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, Seconds, Pride, In God’s Country. I enjoyed watching your reactions to them 😊
Spanish eyes is another brilliant song. Miss Sarajevo with Pavarotti is excellent to name a few. U2 have so many brilliant songs to choose from. Peace,Love and Unity. 🙏
You are right. He is the kind of guy you would want at a live concert. The man has big charisma. His voice range is impressive and the signature U2 sound is addicting, just a underlying Irish flavour. He’s riveting to watch.
Yet another great reaction guys. You might want to listen to Sunday bloody Sunday. Also their performance if "Bad" at live aid 1985 was absolutely brilliant. Warmest Wishes to you both and your little one.
This brings back some special memories. "The Joshua Tree" is a classic album for sure. Another song made in the early 90s, "One" is another great song and video. Check it out when you can.
U2 are my favourite band, you should check out their live Aid performance from 1985 it’s 21 minutes of awesome (IMO) I will follow is another great song.
Bono has said this song is about his relationship with fame, how he can't live with or without it. I also recommend "Bad", "Until the End of the World" and "Ultraviolet". And you're right, live is best!
I had heard this was more specifically about his wife at the time, and how, as U2 really blew-up and took over his life, Bono was torn between wanting to spend time with her and needing to pursue his music.
The guitar player "The Edge" is using a delay pedal and the timing of the delay is timed to the beat of the song. The Edge's guitar sound is frequently modulated with a delay set to a dotted eighth note for rhythmic effect. After acquiring his first delay pedal, the "Electro-Harmonix - Memory Man", he became fascinated with how to use its return echo to "fill in notes that [he's] not playing, like two guitar players rather than one". The effect unit became a mainstay in his guitar rig and had a significant impact on the band's creative output.
This was off the Joshua tree album.the whole album is🔥. The Joshua tree was my first U2 album I owned.on cassette of course.i played this on my personal stereo (Walkman) on repeat.
These guys are my band. My parents in the 60s had the Beatles and my younger friends in the 90's had Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I was in the middle and U2 were my Beatles, my Nirvana. This is the band I grew up with. The issues of the time that influenced them, were the issues that influenced me. The period between The Unforgettable Fire up to Achtung Baby, they ruled the world. Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam. Thank you :)
U2's 2002 Superbowl performance is hands down my favorite of all time. The first Superbowl after 9/11. They perform Where the Streets Have No Name and what they do with it is so profound and beautiful it brings tears to my eyes.
Sunday Bloody Sunday is a song U2 wrote about a true event in Belfast you would enjoy it, but listen to the live version where he names all the people that died that day the history was a protest march by Catholics in Belfast went on a peaceful protest march and took a wrong turn and the British Security forces opened up on them, a great song worth a listen or listen to " In the name of love" it is about the Martin Luther King assassination and the killing of Robert Kennedy
These same 4 guys who started practicing in the drummer's Mom's kitchen in Dublin so long ago, are still together. The same 4 guys: Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullens, Jr. They've given us so much great music. Also, check the live (Live and Slaine Castle) shows. As a live band, they take the audience to church. Every single show. (I also suggest looking at their 2002 Super Bowl halftime show. The first Super Bowl after 9/11 happened. It is amazing.)
This is where it all started for me Joshua Tree 1987. I’ve seen the video for “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” on MTV and been hooked ever since. Loved your reactions to this ! 👏
I can see how much bruh takes in literally all elements. That's how to listen. You both are doing it actually. I looked up and saw her right in it with you. Immersion
The one thing about 80s U2, is that nothing in the stadiums sounded like them. Hair bands and virtuosic guitar solos that went on forever were the norm back then. The simplicity and sonic spaciousness that U2 brought was a breath of fresh air to the rock scene.
I’d recommend you find a video of one of their concerts. It will blow you away at how great they sound live. Especially The Edge on guitar. He’s one of the best ever
Great reaction! U2 is my favorite and this song (which has been preformed on every tour since in came out in 1987) is absolutely amazing live. That guitar sound is The Edge's (guitar player-real name Dave Evans) signature sound. Please do a reaction to the The Fly, In Gods Country, or their Super Bowl performance in 2002.
Next level U2 songs… “All Roads Leave to Where You are” “gloria” (their first hit and one of the first MTV music videis “the unforgettable fire” (the song) “one tres hill” “discoteque” “The end of the world”
I literally grew up on this stuff. I was 8 in 1980. 18 in 1990. All those bangers that hit home as a kid are in many cases looked upon as classic songs today. Back then it was song of the week, at times a song that would stay relevant for a month. I love having grown up as a child and teen in the 80s and a 20 something in the 90s trying to get girls and sometimes succeeding. Therefore fun with these reactions. Brings me back to those good old days that often were far from good personally, yet for the most part pretty good. First girlfriends and all the great music I still appreciate to this day. Keep going guys! You are doing a great job. I could give you a list of 250 songs (at least) you would like that your fanbase would appreciate as well.
Your next reacts are "one" or "in the name of love". Their Lives are crazy dope. The 80s hits are worth a watch you won't regret it. These legends they're from Ireland. Bono the main singer went solo in the mid 90s and joined another group called "the Passengers" and sung "Miss Sarajevo" who went viral in 1996v also worth a watch.
You should do U2 Super Bowl. They were asked to perform at the 1st Super Bowl post 9/11 and they knocked it out of the park. One of the best super bowl performances ever. It’ll bring a tear to your eye
That guitar sound you like is The Edge's signature sound. You'll like almost any of their other tracks for sure. 'Unknown Caller' or 'Original of the Species' are two good tracks with a very similar sound.
Great choice. Check out U2's songs live. They are amazing live and this song played live is next level. Maybe live in Milan 2005 , but there are so many great versions.
Builds up and up and up.. Was never a fan back in the day, but I can appreciate this now. Good to see your reaction to it; I felt I was really hearing it properly for the first time 👍
You guys are cool. Some of these other people started getting on my nerves. The Edge got the most original sound for a guitarist that cannot be mistaken for no one else. The Joshua Tree is probably one of, if not THE best albums of the 80's.
Larry Mullen Jr is an amazing drummer. As for the sound of the Edge's guitar, he played with special guitar picks that gave the guitar that clanky echo effect.
Everything they do is fabulous! Some of my favorites are desire, city of blinding lights, sometimes you can't make it on your own, one, still haven't found what I'm looking for, and pride
Bono has said in interviews that the song represents the inner struggle within himself between the lightness and the darkness. He came to accept that, as hard as the struggle was, it defined who he was.
I forgot to tell you of any of Brian Ito produce this album that's why it's got all amazing effects and all the synthesizers and whatnot that's Brian Eno's method of production
Gotta try some of their songs when they reinvented their sound from their Achtung Baby! album, tracks like The Fly, Mysterious Ways and Even better than the real thing….you won’t be disappointed and the change in style will blow your minds
I forgot to tell you man the guitarist his name's the Edge by the way he uses an Echoplex or something like that when he's getting up delay and and you play along with the rhythm of the delay and there's like an interplay between the notes because he get those extra notes from the delay effects and the echo that happens you set the speed and you're doing it at the same time as the tempo of the delay effect
Oh yay! You finally got to it!!! I hope you like it…Try “One” next please & “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.” ❤️ P.S. it might be a good idea to start reading the words too…it can make it even better!
The lead guitar in this song is a prime example of ethereal bars within a bigger plan, and they both lend to one another. It's super hard to pull off as far as I've heard from artists' catalogues
After their Unforgettable Fire album and their performance at Live Aid, U2 was ready to take over as the top band in the world. When Joshua Tree was released, they delivered the best album anyone had heard in years. It was, top to bottom, a masterpiece.
Although The Edge is a great guitarist, Kris (sp?) is right to focus on Larry Mullen, Jr., the drummer. I don't think he uses a click track when he records (I could be wrong), but live, he's a solid time-keeper, and a great all-around player. More U2, especially "Bullet the Blue Sky"! Thank you for your work on these videos!
Live is the way to go with U2. As good as they are in studio they are 10x better live. For example, on a performance of this song, Bono brings a girl out of the crowd, they lie together as he sings the song to her. Their stages are epic and the crowds are huge. I suggest either The Saints Are Coming w/ Green Day live at the reopening of the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina or their halftime performance at the Super Bowl after 9/11. Both riveting and emotional performances and make a nice entry point for their live music
U2 is up there with REM for me. REM being my favorite band ( Next Pink Floyd) but U2 has a very deep catalog of music, and all.of them different in sound.
Your woman is shy and all’, but she isn’t stupid. She caught it right away that you pausing before an important signature of the song was a miss step. I like that. I like you both. I hope she dares to open up more, because I can detect that she is paying attention and has the goods to deliver good words and opinions.
Beautiful song, Bono has an amazing voice. Joshua Tree is an amazing album, there's not a bad song on it! Looking forward to this reaction.
Jean, some of the best songs of all time, great lyrics, saw them in Sydney a few years back & also saw one of the best drummers i have ever seen in Adam Clayton.
@@chrisalldis3375 Adam is the bassist. Larry is the drummer, and founding member.
First album I ever bought 👍
Achtung Baby is like that for me.
This is my favorite U2 song. It's as perfect as you can get.
Streets is mine, but I cannot disrespect yours one bit
AWESOME SONG
This is arguably one of the greatest songs ever written. Those Irish boys are simply brilliant.
U2 is very special. Here are a few other good ones: One, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, Seconds, Pride, In God’s Country. I enjoyed watching your reactions to them 😊
Seconds is a pretty deep cut. Nice suggestion.
@@PJBonoVox Thanks. I recently re-discovered it 😊
Spanish eyes is another brilliant song.
Miss Sarajevo with Pavarotti is excellent to name a few. U2 have so many brilliant songs to choose from. Peace,Love and Unity. 🙏
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" is another awesome song.
In God’s Country is my favorite U2 song without a doubt.
I have seen al the big ones: MJ, Prince, Madonna, Stones, McCartney etc. Best concert of my life was U2 1987 in Munich.
Warmest Wishes to you both and your little one.
oh i loved this band and especially this song in the 80s and early 90s. they wrote so many rock anthems. the song still brings me goosebumbs.
This brings back some special memories. "The Joshua Tree" is a classic album for sure. Another song made in the early 90s, "One" is another great song and video. Check it out when you can.
One of their best songs, and a part of their best album.
Kudos to the producers and sound engineers behind the scenes. They are often the unknown and unsung heroes of great music 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The amazing Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno of course
Gotta do”bullet the blue sky” live. Unbelievable! You guys rock
Yes! This version, with the setup: ua-cam.com/video/XIVUfSJGam4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AnthonyMahon
