Very good video. Just a hint from a working locksmith who has done thousands of rekeys and who is still doing them every day. If you're out of a pin size you need, it's better to go to the next HIGHER size, not lower. Your pins - in t he video - appear to barely reach the shear line, if that. If low, they'll lock up when you try to turn. But if hight they'll slide right by or at worst, scrape by a little. Believe me, this is a good tip. Good luck to all.
I rekeyed a Schlage deadbolt lock with a new key and it works and functions but doesn’t feel as smooth as the original pins. Not sure if I did something wrong. I feel slight resistance. I sprayed lock lube in there but still does it
excellent video, in organization, instruction and videoography! IIs Dexter in business any more? I have a 20 year old dexter deadbolt lock that was rough turning; rough enough that my son broke a key off. It seamed to hang up and catch in one place. After extracting the broken key. Have made the lock turn more smoothly by tighting the cap and then backing off 2 notches. I was wondering if the real problem was either worn pins or a worn cylinder or was it factory misadjusted What do you think?
Hi. I am wondering if rekeying set of any type could be use to rekey any other lock type (eg. Yale Knobs or dead bolt)? Or, is the rekeying sets, that you have so.many on your video, can only be rekeyed to that company lock set only? Thanks. Because I thinking of getting a Kwikset rekey kit from Amazon. By the way, your video is hands down excellent because you told me two shortcoming errors that will surely do, it is very good video. Where can I purchase your rekeying set, as you have quite a big range?
I would think if you replace the bottom pins you would also replace the top pins also so you top spring wil not be compressed to much or to little. My lab pin rekeying kit has a chart to tell me what corresponding top pin goes with the corresponding bottom pin. Just my 2 cents worth.
I have Weiser locks, can someone tell me if a Kwikset rekey pin kit will have the correct bottom pin lengths to work for rekeying? If not, what compatible kits should I get?
silly question if a lock turn easy one way and hard the other. What gives is it a bad key copy that easier to shear one way or a worn pin the opposite side?
In my experience, the critical issue for rekeying Schlage lock is the design of the door knob itself. The door knob is very difficult for the key core to be inserted and installed properly once taken out. To make things worse, the spring stopper on the top of the key core is very loose and easy to pop out. It usually does pop out when trying to insert it back to the lock knob, making the entire effort useless. It looks nice and easy in the video, but reality bites this time.
Your going to have to use a plug follower and put the springs and pins in one at a time using a pair of tweezers. Its a pain in the ass, so its best to do it right the first time.
I know this is an old post but thought I’d mention that normally you would check them but this is a cut away lock and he covers the top/ and master pins in a later video.
damn son, that pin kit must have cost you an arm and a leg! i havnt done any repinning yet. ive made some keys tho. looks like the old key had one #5 you could have used, lol . do you know of a company that has some small pin kits, at a good price?
I wish you would have started by showing how to get this part out in the first place - I'm a landlady being quoted almost $400 to change the locks on my rental unit (ten locks!).
What a nice video. You taught this 70 year old lady something new. thank you!

Excellent instructional video to rekey a Weiser lock. Much better than most. Voice and video are both very good. Well-paced.
Your video ROCKS! It is practical, instructive, and cystal clear explanation- thank you!!!
Thank you so much i plan on at 40 yrs old trying to make a living in being a locksmith
Hows it going locksmithing ?
You should do well. Charge a lot. In my area of Southern Calif, there's a shortage; they're doing you a favor to rekey your house.
I rekeyed a Schlage deadbolt lock with a new key and it works and functions but doesn’t feel as smooth as the original pins. Not sure if I did something wrong. I feel slight resistance. I sprayed lock lube in there but still does it
thanks for great video, quick to point and well spoken ... thank you i looking forward to watching more thanks... wish all a great day
Great video, I learned something! Would be great if you put links to the tools and pins you’re showing.
It's all about numbers. Once familiarize everything, locksmith is simple
Quick and to the point. Thank you!
I usually scribe on the cap where the cap locking pin is before I remove so it’s factory tight when I reassemble.
Good point. I will do that on the lock I need to rekey.
Nice video. Jobs they never told you about in high school.
can you make a list of tools i need? and how do you get that cylinder out of the door?
Thanks for the video. What what do you do if you’ve made the mistake of dropping all the strings and top pins out of the Bible?

but what if you have no key to get the barrel out/do you have to pick the lock if so demo would be good
Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t own a Castellated Nut Remover 😂
@throat68 Each pin stack has a bottom or key pin, above that is the top pin also called the driver pin then the spring.
I would think if you replace the bottom pins you would also replace the top pins also so you top spring wil not be compressed to much or to little.

Thanks again 12 years later
Good video. Thanks for making it. The camera could do a little better on focusing, but the video was still effective
So, do you have to buy new keys from the manufacturer? Or do you cut a new key with a different pattern when you re-key the lock?
I have Weiser locks, can someone tell me if a Kwikset rekey pin kit will have the correct bottom pin lengths to work for rekeying? If not, what compatible kits should I get?
Nice pin kit where did you get it

Where can I get this rekeying set that you are using in this video from?
Barron Walker you can order it on internet be prepared to pay any where between 100.00 to $200.00 or so
I really enjoyed when you zoomed
What do you do if you pull the key and accidentally make the pins and springs fly across the room? Asking for a friend
Your going to have to use a plug follower and put the springs and pins in one at a time using a pair of tweezers. Its a pain in the ass, so its best to do it right the first time.
need help. only 1 way in to add security pins to almont padlock how do I get the pins in there with no rear access
are there any videos on how to rekey if you dont have the original key?
I just took a basic locksmithing course and I was told to always check the top pins where the bible was but you did not. Any reason for that?
I know this is an old post but thought I’d mention that normally you would check them but this is a cut away lock and he covers the top/ and master pins in a later video.
do you happen to have a al mont ReyKey padlock. seen a foreigner destroy pieces to repin it.
Great refresher!
@NaplesSwampRat Ebay is about the best place to get pin kits cheap. Look for a LAB if possible they make really nice kits. Thanks for watching.
Car key broken and can it be cut or no?
Show me how to put my bible pins and springs back in please

what model kit is that?
I notice that few locksmiths use a plug holder... made by either HPC, ILCO or others. Just not practical?
so if your just following those numbers doesnt that mean that every key is the same of that brand?
TheAdz1584 yes your right... same key will fit every lock
Where did you get your pin kit?
loving your pin case brow nice info *****
Superb video. Another one for my playlists. ☠
Why did the old key stop working for the lock ?
Because he re keyed it to the new key
1:30 what Cal This Tools?
I always wondered how that was done !
What if you want to change the top pins
You would have to change the top pins to correspond to the bottom pins you changed
definitely 'fun' to watch...
Awesome video
I am going to try!!!!!
nice helps out a lot thank you
Nice shirt
What do you do if you don't have the original key?
+Ltl Paa I was thinking that myself. What if I lost my motorcycle key. How would they create a new key?
you would Impression one...
you pick the lock while the cylinder is out
you run the vin number to get a key code. using a program to decode the key code basically you get the cuts for a key and can make one out of a blank.
Make your own key, then pick the lock to disassemble, and then to exactly what this video shows: Rekey it.
Thank you sooo much!! I was able to change out both new deadbolt and new handle locks to match our old keys!! AMAZING SAVINGS!!! @kokomolock
#VeryInformative #ThankYou
@2tD Thanks.
Awesome
Good video

Z Stone that is absolutely insanely high priced, Ive done 30 locks at a apartment that a guy bought, for 350$ that's stealing..
@johnnnyboi123 Thank for watching, if ya have any questions let me know!!!

I'm getting seasick. At least I can't see what's going on.
Good video, but it’s a lot of f ing about.
Just change the barrel, it’s like £5 and you can charge like £150 supply and fit.
Sweet
Definitely not something I could do at home. All those spare cylinders would only be at home with a professional locksmith.
