- In this video, we go over my top seven picks for beginner deep sky targets from March to May. There are a ton to choose from, so we'll narrow it down to a list of 7 that can be captured with a camera lens or small telescope.

Great Video! Thanks :) Your Videos have such a high production value, I was shocked when I saw that this is still a small channel :P Now the next months can come and I have some projects on my schedule :)
Glad I could help. This time of year is a little more rough for small setups, but it IS doable! Thanks for your review!
Excellent video. With my 4 inch ED-FPL51 refracfor, from a bortle 6 city, magnitude 8-10 galaxies look like very very faint clouds.
🤩 Great video ! Thank you a lot !
You are welcome Penka! I hope it helps you out this season!
Thanks, very useful video👍
Thank you for watching, and your kind words 😃
Fantastic 👏👏👏
Thank you for watching, and your kind review!
Enjoyed the series
Thank you Scott. I hope a list was made for things to get throughout the year :)
Thanks, really helpful. How to find things is a problem without this kind of information for beginners. I would be interested in more beginner stuff like this. Also I can take the images but I cant process them. Have subscribed to Adobe lr and ps but haven't a clue how to even begin using them.
Lightroom is more used for milky way shots and less with deep sky objects, but photoshop is good to start with. I am nowhere near as well versed as Trevor from AstroBackyard in Photoshop, he has a bunch of video guides on Photoshop :).
Thank you from a total beginner needing a lot of help!
You're welcome Paul. Enjoy the season coming up!
Thank you for your tips, I will try the M101! I have a 600 mm lens and an equatorial mount, would you think that will work to photograph some details?
You'll get some details, not a lot. The more time you spend on it, the better :)
Great Video! I will Try Some Globular Clusters and Hopefully Galaxies!!
Enjoy, this is the time for those!
Really useful thanks. I’m pulling together a calendar of objects taken in their respective months and there’s some great info in this series. I use a WO Z61 + modified DSLR and ASIair (which is a great little device) although it might be best to switch to unmodded camera for galaxies? Something to experiment with. +1 sub :)
Sounds like a good experiment. Unmodded works well for galaxies, although modded you can pull out the hydrogen alpha a bit easier. Thanks for watching, and the sub!
The telescope I have is a Zenithstar 61 and I have the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer Pro as my mount. I have been fairly successful with Orion, but really have a hard time finding other not so prominent targets. Do you have any tips that might help me?
Star hopping is definitely the way to go for that setup. Spend some time in Stellarium learning which stars are close to the object you want to get next. If you can, put the landscape in for where you'll be (I have a guide on how to do that) that way you'll know roughly where things are if you need to use a landmark on the ground (example: the Rosette is over that big tree nearby). Either way, looking around in Stellarium is a perfect cloudy day way to learn!
I have a 10” SW Dobsonian, and I do astrophotography with it. DSS, Lunar, ISS transits and Planetary. I get really good results and willing to take it up a notch with DSS
For deep sky, you'll definitely want to switch to something on an equatorial mount, especially if that Dob is manual and not go-to. It'll help your picture quality in the long run!
Hi Daylon, could you please help me to finalize among the following gears? As a new hobbyist, I did all my studies (FoV, simulation-based calculation, arc-secs, and Camera - scope matching) and came up with these two sets of cameras and scopes. Unfortunately, not being able to finalize the one set of pairs to buy. The Cameras are ASI533MC / ASI2600MC, and the Scopes are WO RedCat 51 and WO Zenithstar 81. My idea is to start with short focal length DSO targets, but not limited only to that :)
The 533 is great, but I've seen the 2600 in action by an astronomy club member, that thing is amazing! For the telescope, go for the RedCat. Start at a smaller focal length and work your way up.
Wow Markarian's Chain is amazing!
Yes it is! Lots to look at there!
First time yesterday, Zw0224. Connection problems and problem using ASIair studio capture program on jupiter. Is the included cable total crap ????
Gunnar, I've never used the ASIAIR studio PC program. I need a laptop to work with before I do. The cables that come with ZWO products are usually fine. How are you connecting everything?
sir I make my own telescope
600mm focal length
50mm dia.
I see moon creators
Saturn rings
bright stars
but I can't see Jupiter moon.
once I see 2 moon of Jupiter.
can u tell me
what should be tube length
I have 25mm 4mm 20x 30x 40x and 5x Barlow lens.
plz help me
You'll want a focal length above 1000mm to get more moons of Jupiter.
What program are you using to view/navigate the sky like that.
Stellarium. It's free and available on Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile 😀
I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I want to find the nuebula!! Thanks for the video!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Lancaster is pretty, been there a couple of times 😃
Do you recommend capturing galaxies during waxing moon ? Or just star clusters?
Both are great, but if you have filters you can do nebulae as long as you are decently far from where the moon currently is in the sky.
@@AstroEscape Yeah, I currently do only Halpha stuff when moons out but since most of the nebulae set near midnight and it's galaxy season, I was wondering if this can be done. I have an Lpro and 2 days back I shot M51. I was pleasantly surprised at the details I got with 90 mins of integration, Lpro and 78 % moon.
Hi..what software is that you are viewing on ?
The software for the targets? Stellarium, which is free!
@@AstroEscape I see... your using it on your monitor
2:02 The Beehive Cluster is M44. M45 is the Pleiades.
D'oh! I can't believe I did that. Thank you.
Are you talking about focal length or lense
Focal length. In the four videos like this, I show objects that you can get under rough 500mm focal length.
@@AstroEscape Thank you
I was just wondering about that. I’m your southern neighbor. I’m stalking you on UA-cam, Facebook and Instagram now. 😂 I’m kidding I just like your content.
Thanks, Bill! Glad I could help with some target ideas for the next couple months 😃
I want see galaxy nebulas and other
Depending on your scope and filters you might only be able to see bright nebulae like M8 (Lagoon) or M42 (Orion). You should easily be able to see Andromeda though :)
Sir I'm poor I can't buy.
But I will save money to buy 1000mm F/L
Here so expensive
I can't afford
just fyi, there's no such a thing as 70-200 kit lens. These are mostly 24 -70 or 24 - 105 mm for full frame camera and 18-55 mm for APS-C ...
Bah, you're right. Canon offers a 70-300 with some cameras, not sure where I saw the 200 at!
Question: What program are you using? It’s awesome! Thanks.
Stellarium! One of the best free tools to help plan a night out. I have a few guides to help customize it too :)
That was last year. Still applies this year?
Of course! These targets are great every year.
