It's not as powerful as I thought it would be, but it works very well. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGjG43--gYqIoT4Xkur2PqCrtbKwTv2h There are three options to circulate air, and best of all a remote control for us lazy people. Installation was a breeze (no pun intended). It actually took longer to open the box then it did putting the side extenders on and sitting it in the window opening. It's a perfect alternative when you want airflow, but not the AC. Just might order another one for a different room. UPDATE: Bought another one like I said. They work great. Why not have two...

Wow, that was sooooo informative!! Thank you so much!! Our 5 year old microwave that was installed above the stove gave out this week. We bought the house three years ago and several times the microwave would overheat and we'd need to unplug. It wasn't until we took it down that we realized that there was definitely no proper ventilation. This was helpful, thank you for sharing, we'll be needing to do this right here soon.

I just rented a townhouse and it has the over the range microwave like this home so I asked the owner how does the smoke get ventilated because I've never lived in a home without an exhaust fan in the kitchen oh no this is a bit concerning 😮 I'll have to open my kitchen window when I'm cooking

As a Home Inspector, I always recommended venting the Range Hood and all bathroom fans to the exterior. Ventilation Fans for kitchens should be powerful enough to vent Smoke, Fumes, Heat and Moisture and should run at least 10 minutes after cooking. I have an episode on this channel about a Vista Range hood I installed in my kitchen. Thanks for being part of Southern Stories family.

I recommend range hoods from Hauslane, Tatsumaki, Sakura and Pacific. Filterless range hoods with dual blowers will always give you the best performance and suction.

Hello there. I'm doing a new build, and the house by default comes with a range hood. To add a microwave with outside ventilation is an 'upgrade'. I'm not convinced that a microwave is worth removing the vented range hood. I barely use my microwave anyway (currently renting) because I cook from scratch or reheat in the oven 9 times out of 10.

Sounds like the local building code needs to be updated. I live in a hot humid southern environment and the building code here also doesn't require kitchens and baths to have an exhaust fan. Usually only a window is required. Which is absurd because no one is going to be keeping their windows open in August.

    • @southernhometalk2465

Yes , but some situtions you just can not vent to outside, and management will not allow you to install in a condo..... If you CAN NOT install a vent there HAS to be an alternative.... We can't just say NEVER use a ductless system. Does anyone have recommendations on the best system if you can NOT install a duct to outside? Thanks so much.

I have inspected Condo Buildings that have external ventilation and some that did not. External Ventilation should be installed in Buildings. In addition to moisture, range hoods need to vent Heat, and Smoke. I don t know of any recirculating system that can mitigate all 3.

@@southernhometalk2465 induction tops reduce heat by a larger percentage. Charcoal filters remove smoke and odour. Either stainless steel or aluminum filter take care of grease. It can be done. In some countries it is very normal to go ductless. Not as common here but still happens.

    • @southernhometalk2465

Its going to very depending on the range hood you pick and the amount of labor it will take to run it to the exterior. Lowes and Home Depot may have contractors they subcontract out, providing you get the range hood from one of them. Here is one of two episodes on this channel of the Vista Range Hood I installed. If you have a contractor install yours. I recommend not paying any upfront money and that they install it correctly. ua-cam.com/video/csliUahuCyg/v-deo.html

Question - it is okay to just vent the heat up into the attic? I'm going to be replacing my roof in a few years and don't want to go though the hassle of running it out my roof. Will vent into the attic for a few years cause a problem?

    • @southernhometalk2465

I do not recommend venting Bath or Kitchen fans into the attic. Doing so will increase the risk of mold and grease from kitchen exhaust may make your structure vulnerable to fire.

Imagine 400-800 cfm of heat & AC being pumped out of your house during exhaust fan operation. Clothes dryers suck almost 1000 cfm and that fert fan above the toilet sucks 400 cfm of ferty air easy. That's probably more cfm you heat & air unit is capable of conditioning.

Most say the CFM'S on microwaves are too weak. However, current ICC, as I understand, requires make-up air for CFM's over 400 CFM.

Unfortunately the way many of the kitchens are designed it’s not possible to do any kind of venting. Especially after the fact. Our microwave is on an internal wall and it was never designed to have any kind of a venting, so it’s impossible to do it now.

    • @southernhometalk2465

Any time I perform an inspection, I usually point this out in my report. Most new houses in my area do not come with external vented range hoods. It may be possible to add a ventilation fan in the ceiling or wall.
