    A better way to do that ducting would have been to run the round tube down from the roof through the cabinet before putting on the roof vent, so that it would have been one continuous piece, basically.

      @evictioncarpentry2628 why is putting it through the roof improper? I understand your preference is to put it through the wall but you didn't explain what the advantages are aside from saved time. Is there a safety issue? Is it a code issue?

    Mike, great video as always. If I were you, I'd do one thing a bit differently. You could get a heat resistant vent pipe tape, which is also called aluminum tape. Your duck tape will not be able to stand the heat coming from your soup, steak, etc and it will get super greasy and eventually fail.

      There wasn't room in the attic for that length of tube, but if he did it from the roof before adding the roof vent hood it would have worked.

    Hopefully you put a thick bead of caulk under the roof cap flashing to further prevent water from seeping underneath on the top, left, and right sides in a “U” shape. Then you’d also want to wrap some insulation if in a colder area to prevent condensation from the outside and attic elements with some foil tapping for tight air sealing 🙏

    I like how you used rigid pipe. Its required by code on kitchen vents.
    Don't use gorilla tape. Use foil tape. Provides a better seal from air leakage. Won't peel off over time.
    All Microwaves are from China but I'd rather have an American/European/Korean brand microwave compared to a "no name generic Lowes special".
    If you have the option to vent outside, I'd stick with a range hood. The suction on microwaves suck.

    I wanted to watch this again a few days later as I struggled with some details related to my specific install and got some more answers.
    That nice GAF vent is available at Home Depot SKU # 931439
    I had gotten the Menards type which is able to receive 3.25x10 or up to 7” round ducting. What I noticed is that leaves a huge gap between the pipe and roof cap, that I’m just not sure if I am comfortable with. So back to the store!
    Also very nice show of your skill on the drywall. That is most impressive!

  • @BWeezy-sw1wy
    @BWeezy-sw1wy 7 місяців тому +1

    Could have left the venting rectangular until you were out of the cabinet. Leave more room, then switch to round above it where it’s hidden.
    I’m stealing the idea of placing a crimped duct seem just a ~6” above the microwave so that the top of the duct can stay ridge if I need to swap out microwaves again.
    I’m learning I never want to go up in my attic again!

    Just wanted to add my 2¢. When I see these venta-hood microwaves installed flush with the bottom of the upper cabinets, it always irritates me. Families use tall, large pots to cook large meals so, just a venta-hood allows enough height to stir tall pots on back burners. The venta-hood microwave installed like this does not. I would much prefer the cabinet above the microwave be mounted closer to the ceiling to allow stirring of a large back burner pot. I would've installed that cabinet higher than the others. Just my preference.
