I'd seen a sod cutter on video before, but had no idea about the sprig planting, just assumed they started over with grass seed every time. Thanks Emma!
Hiya Emma, Great video; thank you again. I often wondered about how turf was cut and planted. This has explained a lot to me. Looking at the piles of turf at the big box store, I was often aware of the uniformity of colour; I never imagined that this video held the answer. You live and learn. That is if you are lucky. Thank you again, teach, for a great lesson. Stay safe, Steve...
You're sad. This might help... you're beautiful and thousands of people adore you. You've made so many people happy it's just hard to see you down. I hope I'm wrong, it certainly wouldn't be the first time.
This is cool stuff especially for someone who works on a golf course and regularly sources sod for different areas on a course. Past already knowing how grass grows, seeing how it's done before it's delivered is interesting.
What is the principle behind the propagation? Is the first machine digging off rhizomes? And then the second machine near the irrigation, distributing those rhizomes so they take root in a different place? Is this really what is happening?
I wouldn't think so just because the companies that have thousands of acres to farm the amount of sod, they would most likely try to simplify their process by doing just one thing for each grass type. Maybe some companies have a small section of sod they produce differently, but that'd be something to look into for the company you decide to go with. Otherwise you'd probably have to find a smaller company who will do special orders like that without the premium if that's even a factor.

That’s what I assumed as well!

Well I never Emma! Learnt a couple of things again .... Painting grass and Planting it - not sowing...amazing. What's next in your travels?
I’m in iowa now, North Dakota next!
They must lose some soil when they harvest. Do they ever replace it?
How long between sprigging and the next harvest?
Fascinating so are they slowly digging a hole? How do they replenish the topsoil... Part 2
When I was a high school kid the machine would cut it and then we'd roll and stack it on a pallet. Lots of manual labor.

Thanks for watching!
I am also a farmer. You are also a farmer, are you doing good farming
No farmers No food
Love from India❤
As if the turf harvester needs to be more complicated, it should add painting, if painting works that way, to save the tractor a trip in the field.
The dirt from the sod being stacked immediately would probably mess the "paint" up.
Well done❤ love from Haryana 🇮🇳india🇮🇳
How does the Grabber kno wer 2 put the stacks of cut grsss on the bac of the Machine....Emma,??!!!
God bless Emma excelente job
Pretty cool Em
Amazing
Good show

What kind of turf grass? St Augustine,? Coastal Bermuda? or other?
I love ❤️ you Emma.
me too - 83yo!
Hmmm, this whole painting the grass thingy disturbed me a little. Can you also buy it without the paint?

The colorant is made entirely of biodegradable ingredients.
Not everyone paints the grass. In fact, I’d say more is sold unpainted.
@@timr2799 good to know.

This is pretty controversial, some people think sod/ turf farmers are destroying land.
Not
It is controversial but it is actually healthy for soil comparative to row crop
No, you’re wrong.
