🔪 your channel is so awesome. i'm a life-long horror fan, though mostly through movies and games, because i've struggled finding horror (and related genres) novels that i enjoyed and generally just being desensitized to a lot of horror content as a whole. i found your channel in the midst of a huge rut, where i was really desperate for SOME kind of gut-punch, something to pull me out of my media comfort zone, and your recommendations/reviews/etc have really helped with that. delving more into transgressive fiction as a whole has been very refreshing to me, as someone who also seeks to broaden my perspective on art. your thoughtful insight has really helped me challenge how i consume media, and i can't thank you enough for doing what you're doing!
I used to know someone that once lived with GG Allin. They recorded a record together. He said GG was a disgusting human. He would go for months without taking a bath. GG would sell his his autographs outside of record stores. The guy I knew didn't live with him very long.
That man… VH1 showed brief footage of him rolling in his poop for a documentary they did on metal music. I think I was like 14/15, and well, here’s my channel. 😂
@@PlaguedbyVisions When I was in high school, we used to dare each other to watch bootleg VHS copies of his live shows. This was before the Internet took off, so we were not desensitized to this stuff yet. What's funny is he tried to make it in music when he started. Listen to his band Malpractice. It sounds like typical 70's classic rock.
Stopped watching your videos for some time and now I'm back (and God I've missed them). Started reading Exquisite Corpse because of you, since you recommended it in one of your older videos
Every time I watch a video of yours my to-read list grows exponentially. Appreciate the thoughtfulness and enthusiasm you put into your reviews. Thanks for all the great recommendations! 🔪 🔪 🔪
Hey Juan, great stuff. I just recently found your channel due to a recommendation by good old Criminolly and find it extremely interesting. What I love about you booktubers is all the great books I had no idea that existed and reminded of treasures of the my past. Your channel is kind of a double edged sword. Many great recommendations, but limited shelf space. O well one of the down sides of being a book frantic. Also a very happy pride month to you. I know now your group is having a somewhat rough time. I just like to say as a straight man, that I and many of the straight friends are behind you. Keep on keeping on and let your freak flag fly. Take care ..
Thank you so much, Andrew, both for coming here on Olly’s word (a great lad, that one) and for sticking around! Happy Pride Month to you as well, and thank you for the support. ❤️🏳️🌈
Thanks so much for the nice words about PLAYS/hauntologies! I've heard a lot of mixed things. People seem to either like the longer narrative ones better and aren't so big on the short ones or vice versa. Either way, I'm glad you enjoyed it overall. Ratcatcher sounds interesting. So does Run off Crystal Lake 🔪. I like that "deep fried meme" aesthetic to the cover a lot.
thanks for another good video, Juan, and I appreciate your support for the indie authors. I've been addicted to your channel recently, your transgressive fiction recommendations have pushed my boundaries and helped me out of a writing rut I have been having. I also picked up Poking Holes and wanted to say that it was fantastic. Please keep going, I'd love to read more by you. Did I also see Book of the New Sun on your shelf in a recent video? Would love to hear your thoughts on my favourite book.
Oh my goodness, this is such a love bomb of a comment, thank you so much! I'm so happy you've found my recs useful, and thank you so much for reading my book! I'm happy it worked for you. It is an honor, since you seem very familiar with the transgressive! Book of the New Sun was a gift that I've yet to dig into. I struggle with fantasy a lot, though I'm aware this is very different. I'm still working up courage! Haha.
Fantastic video as always 🔪 Definitely inspired to check out some of these independent authors and their works, I think your description of Simmons' work grabbed me most so I will start there!
Thank you so much! I'm so happy that my videos are inspiring you to check out some of these wilder writings haha. Sadly, a lot of Mr. Simmons' stuff seems to be out of print, but just reaching out to him on Instagram will lead somewhere good, I'm sure!
Hi Juan! I found your channel a few days ago and I’ve absolutely loved going through and watching your videos. Really great stuff, even if I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to stomach some of the books you talk about. I actually have a video suggestion for something you might be interested in since you’ve reviewed books by Dennis Cooper in the past- I’d love to see a video on Cooper’s gif novels, which you can find for free online. The first one is called Zac’s Haunted House. There’s a chance you’ve already read them, I wouldn’t be surprised if you had… maybe you’ve even already covered them in a video I haven’t seen yet. Anyway, I love hearing what you have to say in your videos, so keep up the great work!!
Thank you so much for the comment and the support! No, I have not read these GIF novels. That sounds like it would be very difficult for me to acclimate to, haha, but I'm always down to be challenged by fiction! Thank you for the rec!
Omg since I found the channel a few weeks ago I’ve been excited to ask thoughts on Josh Simmons. Lol I can’t believe it! Look forward to more vids on transgressive comics and I’m going to also throw in Gilbert Hernandez blubber?? Keep doing it love the show
Indeed, thank you again for introducing me to her writing! It has so much wondrous potential and I am waiting very impatiently haha. Best of luck with the giveaway, Crystal!
Loved this video. You are doing a great public service by showcasing these weird, off-the-beaten-path books (thanks for highlighting The Satirist!). The GG Allin comic and the Crystal Lake books, especially, look like wild rides. 🔪🔪🔪
Thank you so much, Caleb, and thank you once more for the signed copy of your book! I took one long at Booktube and decided to take action, because who else is gonna read that GG Allin comic?
I have a wild novella you should read maybe review, it's called Les Onze Mille Verges ou les Amours d'un hospodar or the 11 thousand rods by Guillaume Apollinaire it was his "love letter" to Sade.
Thank you for your comment! I'm so happy that you read Negative Space. That is a book for the ages. Thank you for keeping me in mind with your book recs, as always.

@@PlaguedbyVisions Oh, I see. Well, it should be reprinted. I have read a few of Simmons' books and it is the best. I first learned about him through Robin Bougie's Cinema Sewer and Sleazy Slice publications. I don't read comics ever since I discovered all the great single-image artists available online. I did get "Dick Fight Island" a while back and it was pretty nice, although I'm not that gay. I don't remember what I did with "The Furry Trap". I always give my books away after I read them, often I send them to an independent bookstore in Olympia, WA, I am fond of.

Always good to remind everyone we are our own best censors. I'd say try the book if you win, but always know when to stop and step back. I will say, though, there's not much DETAIL of drowning, etc., but it's more a meditation, a reflection. Maybe that's worse! Best of luck!
Happy Pride! This is my first Pride in Illinois after 15 years in Texas (had to flee because I'm a queer enby teacher with a uterus), so I both feel somewhat safer but very sad. Especially for all of my LGBTQIA+ students stuck in Texas.
Your safety is what is most important, and likewise, I have a lot of family in Mexico, and my thoughts are always with any other family members who have never felt empowered to even come out. However, we also need to take the occasion to celebrate. Happy Pride!
Run-Off Sugar Crystal Lake is definitely a bit transgressive in its edge, but if you want REAL transgressive poetry: Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire and Play Dead by Francine Harris. They SNAPPED.

They have put a smile on my face and lots of joy in my heart. :D I am always happy to help people think a bit more critically about things they might already be familiar with, but have yet to consider from a different light.
