What is your thought about the teeth hanger that nails on the top, back of a canvases?

Personally, I hate them. When hanging a painting, I much prefer the ease of hooking a wire onto a wall hook, which you can then slide along the hook to get the painting centered & level. With those teeth hanger things, you have to feel around to find the teeth and connect them to the nail, and make sure the nail is falling between the center teeth or the whole thing is crooked, and it's just a pain. I also work a lot on heavy wood panels, and I also tend to create larger-scale pieces, where I feel more comfortable with the sturdiness of heavy-duty hardware and a hanging wire. So, speaking only to my own personal experience and preferences, they don't work for me.
That said, depending on the artwork, and if you happen to like them, sure!

So this would be good for a 18×24 canvas?

At what point would you switch to D-ring? (size/weight)

There's no one rule, as the weight of different materials varies so much. But for stretched canvases, I'd say for anything over 30" I would use D-rings. Maybe even 24" if the wood is heavy.

Also, you can get smaller D-rings for smaller canvases, so they're not just for large ones!

I don't understand why one would use eye screws instead of D-rings on a smaller picture as well. They are almost flat, and easier to install. Care to answer?

Jeff Delman I was thinking the same. I have seen other Artist you D-Rings for small paintings..

This is totally a personal choice and either is fine. My preference is eye screws, because while yes, d-rings are almost flat, they're not *completely* flat, and eye screws are, since they are put on the inside edge of the stretchers instead of on the back of the painting.
As far as putting d-rings on the inside edges of the stretchers, I don't recommend it for heavy paintings because the tension on the wire from the weight of the painting can actually pull the d-ring apart, causing the wire to slip off of it through the little gap that's created. With a very small, lightweight painting, however, this would not be something to worry about.
If you are using good judgement and thinking about where the strain will be placed, pros and cons of placement, etc. when choosing your hardware, you're good. :)

I've had galleries and exhibitions refuse paintings that use the eye screws for hanging. :-/
