I have watched a lot of videos on relief making that didn’t really help much. This video is straight to the point concise and it is awesome that we can do this all natively in fusion! Thank you
Great info just what I was after as I'm moving into 3d carving. This is going to make life so much easier Cheers mate. But Guy's just be aware when you select the object to extrude too you have to hide the sketch. It took me ages to figure that out as it wouldn't work for me with the sketch still visible. Small price to pay.
for all that have problems with the extrusion: instead of creating a rectangle, choose the option to project onto the object. it will then create a plain that fits to the surface and the extrusion will work.
Hi Thank you. For those who need to lower the resolution, you can use Paint. Open the pic with paing and use "Rescale" option. At the window that opened choose pixels then you can change the pixels.
wow thanks for sharing. im on my 3rd week of youtube university for fusion 360...so happy i found your video....make sure bottom plane is selected for plaque sketch.
Cannot complete extrusion. Cannot extend extrusion to object. The extrusion profile falls outside the boundary of the selected body. Select a face or plane instead, or adjust the profile so that it falls inside the boundary of the selected body. i keep getting this message can anyone help?
I have found a solution to the extrusion issue that many including me have. If you make a square to extrude it to the image, the square has to be smaller than the image.
I have been unable to perform the extrusion as shown to create a plaque. When I go through the steps as shown the underside of the design remains concave rather than being filled in. The goal is to make a design for 3D CNC carving. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Greate tutorial and very useful, i was wondering if i was doing something wrong as i did all the steps , but i am trying to combine it with a solid shape, but it wont let me select the image as a tool to combine.
Trying this now but can't figure out how to resize my image size on fusion 360, and I see it's not possible also to resize at the ad-in screen b4 generating profile
Thanks dude, I have been searching for a program to do this for some time and I'm very happy to have found this. I was getting an error message when trying to extrude, saying "Tool Body Creation Failed" "Extend boolean fail. The termination entity might not be fully intersected with the tool body built along the operation direction" I messed with it for a while and couldn't get it to work, I restarted the project multiple times and it got the same error every time. I decided close the program and restart my computer. This fixed whatever bug it was and is working perfectly now.
I am getting the same error message, I tried different photos and starting Fusion 360 again several times without any luck. Any other possible solution?
Same issue, get to making the plaque and it won't extrude. Keeps telling me to adjust the profile so that it falls inside the boundary of the selected body. I've done that a dozen different ways. Will not extrude
Having issues trying to 3D print once finished. Base works fine but as soon as it gets to extruded image section, it begins to wad up no longer creating a model. Any suggestions?
I can follow all the way to 7:12 select the surface model. The program does not let me select the model to extrude the sketch up to. Any thoughts to problem solve this?
Great video! just wondering, can this be done on the free Fusion 360 Hobbyist version or do I need to pay for the full version? (I am running V-Carve Pro and have never used Fusion360)
I'm fairly confident all this can be done in the free version. Given that it's free to download it certainly wouldn't hurt to give it a try! You will find restrictions in regards to the CNC/milling features though.
Thank you for the vid and explanation. I am getting "mesh not closed" and/or "mesh has no positive volume" errors - 2 different pics - what could I be doing incorrectly here? I am looking for a straightforward way to go from .jpg to 3d print to include on a simple coin. thanks
Same. Update: I was able to get the yield sign icon to go away. I double clicked the icon and it pulled up a repair action. After doing that, the error went away but I still can't convert to quad mesh. (sorry I realize you posted this 3 years ago)
Thanks for video, it's very simple and easy to understand. I'm new to Fusion 360, may i know how to output a proper file/format that suitable for the printer to print the relief on a medal? Many thanks!
Having issues with this for some reason. I keep getting errors ......Can not complete extrusion?????????? I did this once but not sure what I am doing wrong . Could there be too much detail in the photo?????
A lot of people watching this video and trying the plugin experienced similar problems. I tried a bunch of different methods. What I realized is the surface that you create needs to be bigger than the solid body you will be operating with later on. I found a method that works better and gives me "deboss" and "emboss" solids that I can use as tools later on. I extruded a box smaller than my surface and then used the split body command with the surface in the middle of it as the tool. It helps if your initial image you create the surface with has a lot of negative/empty space around it on the borders.
Are you just running a parallel CAM option on this to cut? I cant seem to get it to work in Fusion under the 3d model parallel option. It says the 60 degree Bit is not correct for milling.
I have a question for anyone out there.....I used Image2surface to make a relief of two crossed pistons. It did the job like I want but I don't need the flat 'background' that surrounds it. Is there a way to trim all of that off to make this it's own 3d element?
this is cool but im not sure this is what i was looking for. essentially looking for a way to be bend an image like this around an already made round model.
This is good for flat images that you are just trying to add some texture, but what if the object you are trying to turn into a model is not flat? What if it is something with more depth and contours? For example, if you are trying to make a part for 3D printing that is round and tall like a cylinder, hallow center and clips on the side? Can you take several photos from different angles and then import them to create a single 3D model?
Thanks! I was able to follow you all the way until you extruded the sketch to make a plaque, then I got an error message saying "Tool body creation failed." I've been messing around with the extrude options but can't find what I did wrong, do you have any tips?
I am having the same issue. I changed photos, restarted the software as Sean P suggested below, I keep getting the same error message. Any other suggestions?
Man, makes me really sad, I cant get it to work. Apparently whatever browser fusion uses internally doesn't have webgl activated, and though ive gone to every browser I know of on my computer and manually turned it on it still doesn't affect it in fusion. :( its no bueno T.T sucks cuz its the exact addon I need for what I want to do too... been fighting with it for over 10 hours now with no luck.
For what it's worth, Image2Generator wasn't working for me at all but the issue was I had an external monitor running. I had to run laptop screen only to get it to work.
Aw man so close to making my first 3d plaque, I get to the steps (totally new to fusion 360 btw) I create the 2 point rectangle but once I go into Orbit to move the model intending to move onto the extrude section its as though the rectangle I just created is not flat to the surface of the rendered photo its like its standing on edge. Not sure what I am doing wrong there.
Hey mate! Any ideas on how to use this and multiple images from different angles to re-create a real object in Fusion without needing a 3d camera? After I installed it, I played with several different images and it worked well However, it suddenly started creating triangles rather than quads at conversion to surfaces.
