I think each offers its own sets of challenges. RN school was like building a small house on a foundation of mud. NP school is like building a mansion on a solid foundation of concrete. The building is more complex for NP school, but you've already learned how to build this time around, and you have your RN foundation holding you up.

Currently in nursing school and I feel like the comments you made about nursing school are spot on. Sometimes we get nurses who don't even want us following them so they do things really fast so we cant learn from it.

Personally, the way she described NP school was exactly they I felt about my BSN program. There were no professors hinting at important topics and giving us outlines on what we needed to know for tests.. No, they took up their lectures going off-topic about unrelated scenarios and gave us impossible reading assignments lol.
Kind of makes me feel good about trying on NP school if I decide to! Been on the fence for a few years now.

"It was a brutal weekend, but it could be done" Wow I relate so much as I'm going into my junior year of nursing school! I have to say I hate the select the most correct questions because at least with the select all questions I can use the power of elimination with each answer given! (If that makes any sense)

Im currently in FNP school and I felt like nursing school was a lot harder, for most of my classes for FNP have been lecture based, and I havent really needed to use a textbook unless it was for clarification. My NP program is not online though, and they place us with preceptors for clinical. I have heard similar stories from friends who take NP school online. I felt nursing school was harder because I didn't come in with any knowledge on healthcare, but I did not do an accelerated program. Its interesting to hear everyone's point of view!

I am currently in FNP school. Many of your statements made me laugh because they are SO true. This is very good information for those who are thinking about NP school or wanting to know the difference between nursing and NP school. I also agree that FNP school is much more challenging. You are on your own in NP school and I feel it's more of a sink or swim mentality. I also agree that clinical is much more educational in NP school versus RN school. Can you tell that I have been writing lots of discussion boards with my "I agree with" statements...LOL!! I'm heading to clinical now!! Love your channel!!

Thank you for your insight....believe it or not, as scary as you make NP school sound in comparison with nursing school....the use of a colicky infant as the worst end of the scale made me feel MUCH better. When people ask about the hardest thing I've ever done, it was hands down working ER on weekends while caring for my mother (who had breast cancer) and raising 3 children under 12 while my husband was deployed to Iraq for 18 months. Soooooooooo..... I'm still terrified of NP school (starting next week) but you actually reminded me that tough times are just that, tough but I will survive!!!! Thanks for your great video.

I just began my AGACNP program approximately 10 weeks ago. In nursing school, I felt like I was learning a lot but was never truly “challenged” with the course work-graduated summa cum laude. Now in NP school, I’m constantly second-guessing myself and working extremely hard to churn out work that happens to be about average. I like the fact that I am challenged now, as unnerving as it is, and I am the type of person who would rather approach a challenge and give it my all and risk being unsuccessful than to never attempt it in the first place. Great video Liz, you’ve really reassured this NP student.

I studied both in my Country, Cyprus, nurse practitioner school was absolute hell. But I'm sort of glad that you also described the same experience in regards to the material that we needed to study. We didn't get any specific material to study from, we had topics, lists of books and references. We used the internet a lot and we watched videos. I'm glad that my English is pretty good because the lectures and exams where in Greek but the sources were in English, which was different from nursing school because they were books for nurses in Greek but not for NPs. Advanced nursing practice is currently in its infancy here, there's only one program and it is modelled after programs in the US and Canada.

  • @joyfullyfaith
    @joyfullyfaith 2 роки тому +1

I think it honestly depends on the nursing school, because the thing you described about NP school (You’re going to need to finish this even though you can’t. Not giving specific information on what will be tested) is exactly what is happening in my traditional BSN nursing program. So do research on the specific school before applying.😩

  • @michellewoocoad9511

Coming from an accelerated BSN prgm to a FT FNP prgm, I do think FNP is WAY more difficult in terms of the massive amount of content. Clinical application was also a difference too for me. In the ABSN, I felt like I needed to know illness, why, treatment (that was never ordered), in the FNP realm, I needed to know illness, risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnostics, and treatment plan which is a whole range of things.

So interesting that your nursing school experience didn't rely on textbooks! I'm currently finishing up my accelerated BN program and the professors would lecture exactly how you described FNP - the topic /might/ be relevant, but for the most part they'd give bare minimum info and expect you to know the tiniest of details in 100+ page readings per week! So tough D:

I'm in the FNP program. This is what I know: 1. doing a local, hybrid program is easier, it seems, than online programs. My friend is in the online program and it's more expensive, she has to take more courses overall (idk why), and she seems overloaded with material (maybe bc her classes are in 5 week increments, yikes). I like my hybrid class because it establishes a tad more guidance. 2. I am on a part time NP track AND I've adjusted my classes to where I take the harder classes by themselves and group the easier/more tedious classes. 3. I have yet to start the clinical portion and I presume that's when I will realize the the FNP program is more difficult

Hi Liz! Speaking of hands-on skills, how much hands-on skills would you say you need as an FNP? I’m the kind of person who has “two left hands” and is a total klutz, where popping out pills from a pack without dropping them on the floor can be a challenge sometimes. (Hence why I’m currently working in psych! Lol) I’m starting FNP school soon. I know that there are things like pap smear, IUD insertion, suturing, etc. but what are some other “hands-on skills” that you need as an FNP in a primary care setting? Thank you!!

Thanks for another great video. I so wish I learned all these things prior to going back to school.
Both style questions are challenging but SATA is my least favorite.
I am with you about all the reading in NP school that there is no way to get through before you are tested on it.
    Thanks again. 🙂Alberta

Awesome Video! You are Hilarious! 😂😂 I feel like nursing school was overwhelming because I absolutely had to learn alot and NP school is frustrating because there isn't any real direction towards information and it's more vague. I haven't started clinicals yet, but that is frustrating as well, trying to find preceptors. I'm determined to get through though. Great video!👍🏾👍🏾

To this day I cannot wrap my head around that its a stomach issue! I swear I think its some type of emotional thing they are developing. Gripe water, Mylicon drops, music, car rides, 37 different formula tries, bicycle with their legs, and her grandma even put a sliver of soap (old school suppository) in that lil chocolate butt to make her poop.....NOTHING! I’m 38 and I remember it like it was this evening 🤣🤣😂 YES Colic #1! I guess I can do it then 🤣🤣😂😂 Anyway love your energy woman! And you could be a therapist because your delivery is the bomb!!! Hell no and I don't find that answer very often internet wide
