    After I failed Statics I watched your "So i failed Statics" video. After watching your videos religiously, I got a B in Statics then got an A in Solids. Thank you so much!

    Professor Jeff Hanson turned my semester around from failing statistics
    From like 4% mid semester exam to fully 50% out of 50 on the final , biggest comeback of my life in the university.

    My program here in Sweden kinda spread out Statics and Solids over several courses - "Physics 1" brought up some 2D statics problems, then it introduced 3D statics in a course called "Mechanics 2" (which was actually more of a "Dynamics" course), as well as some stuff about elastic beams and fluid statics in "Continuum Mechanics".

    one question about this problem, you calculated the weight by multiplying the volume and the density of the plate. But volume x density gives mass, not weight. Don't we have to calculate the weight by multiplying it with 9.81 too?

      i think doctor hanson just incorrectly put a negative sign on there. if u would try to graph y^2 = 3x, it would look like the same as the illustration presented. but the y^2 = -3x wouldnt look the same.

    • @rohanpulavarthy7645
      @rohanpulavarthy7645 Рік тому

      i think he accidentally wrote -3x instead of 3x because technically Y^2 = -3X looks the opposite to what's drawn there.

    At point 2:58 in the video, doesn't Density*Volume = mass, rather than weight? or am I missing something? I would have thought that to get Weight (W) you would express this as rho*V*g (where g is acceleration due to gravity = 9.81)

      the density is in pounds. as you can see, he eliminates the units by multiplying so that we obtain weight

    • @DoesNotChemPute
      @DoesNotChemPute Рік тому

      @haliltarbak but isn't density mass per unit volume? Correct me if im wrong but isn't Pounds one way of expressing mass and not volume? By multiplying density*volume you would get mass (since volume cancels out), so then to get weight you would multiply that expression by g (the acceleration due to gravity)

    • @haliltarbak2857
      @haliltarbak2857 Рік тому

      @@DoesNotChemPute yeah you are right. I think the question is this: is it still density even it is in pounds or does dr. Hanson think that so?

    Mr Hanson, could u please do one lecture on the ordinary pipe wrench and chain wrench mechanism? There seems to be a gradient for about 8 degree between two jaws on the ordinary pipe wrench, why does that gradient exist, and how is that angle affect the mechanism? Compared to that what could be the advantages of chain wrench? Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏

    Hey Sir.
    For the part of the object with it's "curve" being modelled as "y² = -3x", I dont know if thats correct as when i put that equation in a graphing calculator, the equation pops out in the 2nd and 3rd quadrants (x being negative). However, you've drawn it in such a way that the x values are positive. Wouldn't that affect our centroid values?

    nice shot on Y-bar but couldn't we multiply half of the whole strip to the dA, at last, we would get < Y-bar = 1/2 * 0.16 > well that's the answer but whereas sometimes wrong solutions got the same answer as right ones I wanted to make sure of this idea...

    • @kaandemircii

      Because, the centroid of the differential rectangle(y bar) should be middle of itself. But we have to make an equation respect to origin. So, as y bar, the middle point of the dif. rectangle is:
      (x) - (half of the rectangle height)
