I could have done this project with your help. Thank you sir. I know right! One light at 20% power gives you such a soft look. These lights are amazing.
Just called to order, Dave said "Yeah, everyone's apparently seen this video, the lights have flown off the shelves!". Once again, you rock for pointing us in the right direction!!
How are the dimmer controls operated? Are there switches on the bulbs? Are you using your own dimmer system? How can you daisy-chain multiple T8's together?
Hi Jeff. Thanks for watching the vids. As far as your question, these lights are just in high demand. A lot of DPs and filmmakers love them and the demand is big now. I just had a buddy order the battery powered three piece kit and I think it took a couple of weeks to get to him. I guess that happens when your products are heavly wanted. I hope that helps.
@@UpHillCinema thanks for the response! The battery units would be cool, but out of my budget. I wanted a 4' and will add a GVM 480. That will give me flexibility I need and the plan is to buy more Quasar Science tubes.
PETE ALEXANDER If your referring to the gels on the quasars it was #728 steel green. If your referring to the lights but the background that weren’t the quasars, I didn’t use gels. They were the Arri l5-c.
hey, what would the quality of the light be if I got the normal dimmable but non crossfaded version and used gels instead to change the temperature/colour to my liking? I want to get these lights but I think the price difference between the Crossfade versions and the non crossfade versions is huge.
Can you please tell me how you achieved the orange/teal pink/clay skin look that you have there at 7:04 ? I usually only see it done with RED cameras. Thanks and you've sold me on the QS lights. How long did it take for you to get yours?
+Urban Elevate QS is based in LA and I'm in Utah so only a couple days. And for the look at 7:04 of me, is pretty simple. Two 4 foot QS T8 lights, one at 5600K and the other at 3000K. The 56k light is in back of me which you can see in the shot, and that's has a Rosco 728 steel green gel wrapped around it. Then my key light is the 30k light on camera left and that shooting through a Rosco 1/2 soft frost. The camera is set to 3000k too. Hope that helps and thanks for her support.
Tanks so much! I'm subscribed. Keep posting and let me know how I can help! We shoot on a C300 mark ii and I'm just learning color and lighting mainly for music videos and docs sos a channel like this helps so much.
THIS WAS SO COOL HOLY SHIT!! Dude I'm literally like so into your style of review videos, they're so inclusive of like every question I had in my head, wow. I'm a film major at asu and have been looking for something similar to these lights, now I know that these are the exact ones I'm gonna get! THANK YOU!!!
Hey great video . My question is in the thumb nail . Are the two blue lights in the background , vertically mounted .do they have gels on them or is that a natural color look ? Thanks
That’s a hard one. One thing I’ve found is that the QS are a lot more versatile then other lights. Meaning I can get tons of looks with only a couple of there lights. That doesn’t mean I’m not use other lights, it just mean dependent on the project I can use less gear and the look I’m going for.
Awesome, I grabbed one to try it out as I picked up 2x 2' Switch's here in LA. I love the light they give off for sure. Have you found a battery solution for these? P-tap power to Anton Bauer?
@@UpHillCinema Thank you, I'm not super familiar with a book light situation. Do you have any links to videos you've made where I can see what you're talking about? Or see what that kind of set up would look like?
@@UpHillCinema Okay, so did you have the quasar tube with 216 rosco around it then bouced off a bounce board? I'm just trying to wrap my head around how you did this set up. Maybe if you did a quick video with the lighting breakdown where you even took a picture from behind your head so that I could see where you've placed the light in relation to the diffusion and bounce? That would be great!
I'll do two things. I'll use Rosco quick color sleeves or just there normal gels and tape them to the light. LEDs don't get hot so your totally fine putting gels and tap on them.
Thanks, Levi! And I am impressed by the quick response :) And I forgot to mention it but I loved the video (already subscribed) and your lighting it's quite amazing! Kind of looking towards those lights now, and completely inspired hahaha
Awesome Levi!! Glad to hear that, I will make shure to coment every once again haha But keep up that goooood work! Love those lights! What are the cmaera settings on some of the shots? (or the more challenging ones)
I have fs5, a7s2, inferno, along with a handful of quasars, and love em. I guess I could just test myself but what ISO are you at in some of these samples? And how heavily did you grade the footage. I just never thought one would be enough to key. haha. nice work.
Im at the base ISO before Sonys later update, so 2000. It was all shot in slog2 and yes it is graded, but I'm not sure what classifies as heavy. I graded the footage myself in premiere, so as much as I can do in there without killing the image. I have found with all sony cameras, you have to push the image to make it look good.
Nice. yea the new 1600 is a little nice to deal with. I'm generally shooting with multiple bulbs but this makes me want to try some single bulb action. nice work.
Great review BTW - I just sent them a quote request for a 3pack. So even for the shot at 3:22 of Taylor you were using the 100mm lens? (I ask because the camera looks way too close to her at 100mm to get that kind of framing) Also, did you use the Sony A7Sii for her shots as well?
Aaron, I mis spoke. The shots for the actual examples, I was shooting a 50mm. For the shot of Taylor, which is the video I did about gels, I was using a 100mm. Hopefully that clears things up a bit. Sorry for the confusion. This was all shot on the Sony FS5, but I do use the A7SII a ton. Great camera.
wow - were you shooting raw into the odyssey? my FS5 footage never looked that good! I know it's all about the lights - but also curious about the settings! thanks!
+Joshua Guerci That eye light is a very typical look in the cosmetic commercial world. I wanted to show that you can have high and low key looks with the same lights.
They keep saying they've sent it and they'll send me a tracking number. This went on for weeks but there was never a tracking number sent. GunsGirlsGames Hahaha that's awesome
How are the dimmer controls operated? Are there switches on the bulbs? Are you using your own dimmer system? How can you daisy-chain multiple T8's together?
I am using a separate dimmer. I have links in the description. Yes you can daisy chain them together. Quasar Science has a kit you can buy to do that.
Amazing work, thank you so much for doing this! Just ordered 4 of them, took 6 months to find them in stock somewere.
Thanks Levi for sharing - I requested a quote and think I will pick up a couple sets in each color temp. Thanks again!
Awesome video! Can these be hooked up to a v-mount battery via d-tap to become portable? Or any other type battery for that matter?
I wish Quasars would be available in Europe. I just can't seem to find those cheaper priced versions!
Great video nonetheless, ty!
Where did you get the gels for these?
amzn.to/2kZXKNm
I love you for posting this!!! Question, are there Quasar black lights available? If so, where?
what gels to do you wrap them with. I am new to video and dont want to get gels that the lights might melt.
All I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW!
I'm sold.
You won't regret the purchase thats for sure.
The 2' lights are on sale for under $30 each on B&H right now.
Great video! What color gels did you guys use for the quasar?
What size should I get?
Ist seems, you cannot purchase the tubes anywhere. Not even at B&H. Any idea?
@2.01 you say to wrap them in gels to get more looks. Where did you get those "gels"?
Rosco or Lee’s. Bh or amazon
I hope this is an easy question. I seen your videos and others. Finally, decided to buy and now they seem out of stock everywhere, do you know why?

UpHill Cinema oh gotcha..yes, was really loving the background color. Do u recall what the temp was set at on the Arri? thanks again!
PETE ALEXANDER The lights are actually a full RGB light. So I actually just put the to a complimentary color. You can do any color you want with them.
Hey what dimmer did you use. And info to go with that. Thinking maybe just a standard dimming switch between power cord and source might do it.
Dude how the heck are you? We went to Davis together! I love seeing you do your thing with video/photography! Best wishes man!

Emanuel, thank you for the support and compliment. Could you be a little more specific with your question? I want to make sure I answer it properly.
amazing color! What color gels did you use to get that orange and pink hue effect? great video
Thanks for the compliments.
The pink and orange colors are actually not gels, there from lights I used which are ARRI L5.

They're not available from regular online sellers. Contacted company for a quote... bit strange
Barbizon Lighting sells them.. they have offices all over the country.
Kelsey Renfro i got mine from them!

Sara Jehan That is correct, they to flicker at all.

Yes you can. Ive used generators quite a bit with them.
Hey UpHill, what brand and version of lights did you use to light your face while you're talking throughout this video?
Just kidding, I just found it here: ua-cam.com/video/LIJDN7BDlWk/v-deo.html

@@UpHillCinema Thank you, I'm not super familiar with a book light situation. Do you have any links to videos you've made where I can see what you're talking about? Or see what that kind of set up would look like?

Do you know watt wattage they are equivalent too?
With the price on these, we all should have them in out bag of tricks.
The lights are cool, but I personally don't like the square catch lights in the eyes for the Diva light look.
the square inside the circular eye is horrible. It destroys the geometry of the eyes
