Honestly, the ppl of China can only vote for members of the lowest of the hierarchy, namely the ministers. But even the voting results are quite suspicious. And with so much in between to the higher-ups and low transparency of the CCP, corruption is a major problem. Corruption will occur in any country, and corruption in China was once quite serious. However, after Xi Jinping came to power, he implemented strict and resolute anti-corruption actions and reversed this phenomenon. The Communist Party of China originally had a Discipline Inspection Commission, but this institution can only combat corruption within the party and cannot cover all corrupt personnel; and before Xi Jinping's actions, this institution itself suffered a lot of corrosion. So on this basis, Xi Jinping established the National Supervisory Commission. The new institution is independent of government departments. All public officials, regardless of whether they are party members, are included in the supervision of the new institution.

I just found your channel. This video absolutely helps in understanding China's internal political structures, and I hope you can make more of these. Western style multi-party democracies sound good on paper, but in practice it's all about getting votes, and not actually serving the people.
@@DisobedientSpaceWhale "Who gives their votes?" I ask you: What's the point of voting for a political party in the first place? It's to get people in power to represent you to solve the country's issues, right? Well what happens when you can just skip to solving the issues? The CPC gets their legitimacy from the approval of the people. Look up "harvard survey china". Harvard conducted a survey to see if people in China were truly happy with their quality of life. And I quote, "The survey team found that compared to public opinion patterns in the U.S., in China there was very high satisfaction with the central government. In 2016, the last year the survey was conducted, 95.5 percent of respondents were either “relatively satisfied” or “highly satisfied” with Beijing. In contrast to these findings, Gallup reported in January of this year that their latest polling on U.S. citizen satisfaction with the American federal government revealed only 38 percent of respondents were satisfied with the federal government." But what if they've all been brainwashed? Then how do you explain the 100,000s of Chinese tourists who travel abroad every year? Or the over 300,000 Chinese international students studying in the US every year where they have access to the open internet? And they're not immediately complaining about their lives back home in China? Or going to an Embassy to seek political asylum?
@@DisobedientSpaceWhale "plenty of citizens protested in Hong Kong... plenty of citizens protesting the CCP lockdown measures...." - And the CPC reverted their Zero Covid policy within weeks. Did you forget about that? That's called: Listening to the people. About the whole Hong Kong 2019 protests: do you know how it started? Because a Hong Kong native killed his girlfriend in Taiwan, and then escaped back into Hong Kong to avoid capture. And because Hong Kong does not have an extradition treaty with any other country, including the mainland, no one can arrest the murderer. The Hong Kong government wanted to pass the extradition law, but a lot of Hong Kongers who grew up under British rule has been taught that China's system is inferior to western style government, even though Hong Kong itself treat their residents like trash, putting people into cage apartments all because the government is making too much money leasing the land in Hong Kong to the highest bidder instead of creating affordable places to live. But anyway, the student protesters did more harm than good to their own city, almost burning the place down. China finally had to enact their national security law that they could've passed back in 1997 on Hong Kong, but held off because they didn't feel a need to do so. Oh, and the murderer is still walking free.
@@yojimbo3681 protestors sound completely justified to me. They don't want a law that can send them to China to face a non independent judicial system. You could then get sent there just for the 'crime' of speaking out against the CCP. But you know all this already I suspect. This conversation is a waste of time.
I see some merits to China’s system. However, the biggest issues appear to be the concentration of power, the laws, the lack of accountability by the people which ultimately result in the government being able to just do whatever they want like seal everyone in their homes during covid. In America, the CIA similarly controls everything behind the scenes and does whatever they want, but a certain facade must be kept up, so they never take things past a certain point with their own people. Anyway, both systems are fucked
Agree with this. I like the indirect election of the national representatives but it got overshadowed by the concentration of power into a single leader, namely the General Secretary. It would be much better if the National Party Congress would do away with the Standing Committee of the Politburo, and let the Chairman of the Politburo be a separate post and the head of the Party instead of the General Secretary.
There’s no government accountability here in the us states have power and make their own laws and don’t have to abide by government if unconstitutional which is freedom you don’t have to give in to capitalism or you can it’s up to you you can go start a farm go start business want to do it in china impossible you can’t do it..

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, elections have been highly constrained by the CCP's monopoly on power, limitations on free speech, and party control over nominations.[5][6][7] Elections are not pluralistic as no opposition is allowed.[8][9] Rory Truex, a researcher of Chinese politics at Princeton University, states that "the CCP tightly controls the nomination and election processes at every level in the people's congress system...the tiered, indirect electoral mechanism in the People's Congress system ensures that deputies at the highest levels face no semblance of electoral accountability to the Chinese citizenry."[ Basically you need to be approved by the government to run even at the local level
Fantastic video! I am learning Mandarin and trying to find a course to learn more about China's political system but it's hard to find one that isn't biased against China 😞
Could you explain how the party organization department works or how it’s members are selected or elected and how do they make sure the judges are both vetted and also approved by the people? There is very little information about this online. Thanks for the video!
This depends on the position, and some officials are directly elected. But most officials adopt an examination system. Then, by accumulating experience and achievements, one can be promoted. The core officials at the highest level are usually determined in advance by political leaders in the preparatory meeting - Beidaihe Meeting, and then nominated by the President, and then submit to the National People's Congress for voting. The promotion of intermediate officials depends on their achievements and experience, but they also need to be voted by their colleagues. Each level has its own meeting and voting system.
Thank you for saying "the Chinese people", not "the Chinese". It irks me whenever people refer to the Chinese population as a monolith. I'd always hear people admonish the term "the Africans" but never bat an eye to saying "the Chinese".
It is very factual when it breaks down the political system. But where it starts to lose me is when it says “the people have a say in what the government does” which they clearly do not. If the people speak out against the Chinese government they are prosecuted, vanished and imprisoned. The Chinese national peoples Congress serves as a rubber stamp and never have direct supervision power over government administration. If they had them, the current leader of China wouldn’t have been in power for so long. Democracy isn’t just the elect election system but how do people can check the governments power? China doesn’t have a check in balance system to which government policies can be checked by a judiciary or directly by the people or even by the legislator. If prosecution of citizens is anything other than democracy, then I don’t know what it is. The Chinese government doesn’t even guarantee the protection of the peoples rights if the citizen does speak against the government instead, they are challenged and jailed.
This is correct in the us you say anything about government and nothing happens you go on social media say bad things nothing happens you tell a police officer he’s terrible nothing happens to you you go to china you get killed if you say it
this system is really good, it is like working for a company. you have to start from the beginning and then get promoted. unlike many others people without politic experience can run in an election just because they want to, have so much money, or just popular.
Current PRC power structure can best be termed as party dictatorship rather than one person dictatorship, hence all these elections, sub elections and political structures are only to serve the party and not the state. Party owns everything in China including it’s military, there is no opposition and there is no free judiciary. Party’s word is final in PRC, Xi Jinping is powerful not because of its position as President rather from being the general secretary of CPC
Yes but he’s extremely powerful in the us president is not as powerful here as it is in china president still can’t just veto everything and pass insane laws
What is Democracy? What are we going to eat for lunch today? A: Pizza (but B doesn't like it) B: Burger (but C doesn't like it) C: Noodles (but A doesn't like it) D: Why don't we talk about it? After the four of them discussed it for a while, okay, let's eat hot pot
Nice propaganda, but that's not what happens. People don't have the freedom to express themselves, they don't have the freedom to vote, they don't have the freedom to criticize the Chinese Communist Party, and much less to protest or protest against the government in the streets. A dictatorship is one of the non-democratic or anti-democratic regimes, that is, governments ruled by a person or political entity where there is no popular participation, or where this participation occurs in a very restricted way. Conclusion: it is a dictatorship.
CCP is getting closer and closer to being a fascist government than anything else. Single party rule with strong (absolute) leader with a mixture of economic systems but all with heavy government influences with strong nationalism. If there is no one else to vote for, does it really matter?

Thank you for explaining the Chinese political system. I agree the Western style is not the only democratic model
An example of this is like George bush . He got hook up because his father is a former president .
Unlike Xi Jing Ping even though his father is a high ranking Chinese government official , he still has to start from the grassroots bottom level and work his way up to the top of the hill. By the time he became the president of China or chairman, it takes him 40 plus years to get there. Not easy to become the top leader of China 🇨🇳😃👍💕
@@dannytadashi4235 "He got hook up because his father is a former president " No, he got an advantage (connections) in winning the RNC, but had he blundered or made a faux-pas, the "state media" wouldn't have censored that (in fact, they'd be ALL OVER IT) and the world would've known. Then, presumably, another RNC candidate could've taken his spot, and in the final election, a Democrat could've won. It's a direct election (though we have that stupid electoral college thrown in there just to screw things up). Unlike an "appointment" to lead the Country. And even has "leader" of the country, he has to fight and negotiate with all of the representatives from various regions of the country to enact any policy. Unlike China, in which the CCP can say, "THIS is the policy," and all of the minor parties are required to agree.
Honestly, the ppl of China can only vote for members of the lowest of the hierarchy, namely the ministers. But even the voting results are quite suspicious. And with so much in between to the higher-ups and low transparency of the CCP, corruption is a major problem. And with Xi Jin Ping extending his presidency again ( All voting members agreed, but there’s absolutely no way a 100% is possible without some ‘manipulation’ ), the CCP leans far more to the authoritarian side rather than democratic. It wasn’t this autocratic until Xi Jin Ping came and took over
But there¨s no Democracy in China though. If you say anything criticial about the regime you will likely go to jail or consequences by lowering social score so you become a bum or something. And there¨s no national elections there either outside districts, since CCP runs everything
Lol are you really that gullible?

@@lordhe11iaon95 True, I believe that the Western model of democracy can sometimes create division and unnecessary rivalry among the population. It's important for Westerners to recognize that there are different worldviews and systems.
i liked the review system and the promotions as per merit, would like to gain more insight over whether there is hint of corruption involved in promoting officials or there are checks and controls to counter it.
Very nice. I’ve spent some time today looking for something that was thorough and unbiased.

I just found your channel. This video absolutely helps in understanding China's internal political structures, and I hope you can make more of these. Western style multi-party democracies sound good on paper, but in practice it's all about getting votes, and not actually serving the people.
Who gives their votes? The *people*
@@DisobedientSpaceWhale "Who gives their votes?" I ask you: What's the point of voting for a political party in the first place? It's to get people in power to represent you to solve the country's issues, right? Well what happens when you can just skip to solving the issues? The CPC gets their legitimacy from the approval of the people. Look up "harvard survey china". Harvard conducted a survey to see if people in China were truly happy with their quality of life. And I quote,
"The survey team found that compared to public opinion patterns in the U.S., in China there was very high satisfaction with the central government. In 2016, the last year the survey was conducted, 95.5 percent of respondents were either “relatively satisfied” or “highly satisfied” with Beijing. In contrast to these findings, Gallup reported in January of this year that their latest polling on U.S. citizen satisfaction with the American federal government revealed only 38 percent of respondents were satisfied with the federal government."
But what if they've all been brainwashed?

Liked & Subscribed.👌👌👌
There’s no government accountability here in the us states have power and make their own laws and don’t have to abide by government if unconstitutional which is freedom you don’t have to give in to capitalism or you can it’s up to you you can go start a farm go start business want to do it in china impossible you can’t do it..

i'd add a little research i did through an argue a couple years ago
i seached the background of the top policy makers in china
roughly 1/3 of them started as factory workers/farmers,let's say from the bottom
1/3 came from the second or third generation from the founders of the state
1/3 came from the top tier engineers(most),scholars, and business family
i wonder what proportion in western democracy countries
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, elections have been highly constrained by the CCP's monopoly on power, limitations on free speech, and party control over nominations.[5][6][7] Elections are not pluralistic as no opposition is allowed.[8][9] Rory Truex, a researcher of Chinese politics at Princeton University, states that "the CCP tightly controls the nomination and election processes at every level in the people's congress system...the tiered, indirect electoral mechanism in the People's Congress system ensures that deputies at the highest levels face no semblance of electoral accountability to the Chinese citizenry."[
Basically you need to be approved by the government to run even at the local level

Fantastic video! I am learning Mandarin and trying to find a course to learn more about China's political system but it's hard to find one that isn't biased against China 😞
It's "one$onevote". It serves BIGMONEY camouflaged as serving the people.

Great and useful video!

China has trialled over the years various gov systems & finally found one that suits it by lifted 800m people out of absolute poverty & much increasingly better livelihood over the last 40 years is not an easy feat without their people support (>90% based on polls by Harvard U & Lowy Institute). Not one democratic country on earth has their gov approval rate close to it. It's close to a famous quote by the former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln "government of the people, by the people, for the people". The USG today has completely lost it considering the current scale of homelessness, gun violence & racial discrimination locally. Worst, the USG causes wars & chaos around the world to protect the interest of the military industrial complex but at the expense of its people.

It appears that the video was made by Chinese from the beginning, but the way you spell Chinese characters sounds like foreigners.
Brother watch this short video will show you how the Chinese political system work. Everyone start from the grassroots level and there is no one can escape that . The Chinese very proud political system that they develop are very competent and highly meritocracy. It’s been like this for thousands of years since the Han dynasty Imperial system and to this day the Chinese communist party is still hold true. Your promotion is based on performance and merit, and everybody must start from the bottom and work your way up to the top, and there is no way around this or trying to do a short cut.
Even though if you are coming from princeling family or if you are well connected with the high ranking Chinese government official, you still have to start from the bottom and take examination and evaluation by your peers before you can get promoted to the next level.
That’s why this Chinese political system is very proud and unique. Because of this system the Chinese develop, they can produce very high caliber leaders and competent leaders to run the country.
Unlike the western model political system, it’s all about hook up and princeling and privilege people and identity politics to get in office. So, on my book I like the Chinese political system more because it does produce good leaders
