8:25 This is correct, our language did not exist until Mikael Agricola single-handedly created it. Before the mid 1500s, ethnic Finns only communicated non-verbally. You know, by grunting, nodding, scowling, staring... Historical sources recount how difficult it was for the Swedes to boss us around.
Hello! A Finn here, just som info, Sweden ”built” a lot in Finland becuase we were a part of Sweden until 1809 ☺️ there is so much things to see in Helsinki, just perhaps not in the city centre. Also, we go to Estonia to buy alcohol because the tax on alcohol is much lower there, so even if the ticket costs 25€ you save money.
Just to clarify: Agricola invented the written language, but finnisch had been spoken for a long time before. He did come up with a lot of new words though. And by the way: I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU TRAVELLED TO FINLAND INSTEAD OF SWEDEN! Also, you should totally visit Finlabd in the winter too :)
i'm so happy you're back on youtube! especially cause a bit ago you made it seem like that's something you would never do again. I'm not sure what changed but i'm glad it did :)
🦙🦙🦙 Those fishes are either common bleak or cironka, which are so delicious. I'm really excited to see your next trip. Netherlands is a beautiful country here near by.
As a Finn, it's so fun to see others exploring my home country. 😄 The fishes you had are called ''muikku'', I love them. Also I can confirm that Finns do go to Estonia to get cheap booze lol. Alcohol is so highly taxed in Finland so it's cheaper to go to Tallinn, especially if you buy larger amounts. 😆 I'm happy to see you visited Suomenlinna fortress, it's one of my favorite places in Helsinki during summer!
Finland.... known for beating Russia, skiing, and saunas. Their language is related to Hungarians for some reason due to migrations from 3500 years ago, and no invader or colonizer was able to drive out that small population in all that time. Swedes might have built a fort, but it was to stop the Russians from building a fort. Finland has always been treated like a buffer state until recently.
I find this travel vlog "slightly" offensive. First: FINNISH IS NOT INVENTED BY AGRICOLA!!! Finnish is an Uralic language, and the mother language was spoken 5000 years ago. You say that the cathedral is boring, and still you were on the market square and the Orthodox Church can be seen from it, the distance is 500 meters. Go see gold there. There is nothing to see in Helsinki, so you went to Tallinn? You didn't look for any information beforehand? You didn't visit the oldest building in Helsinki? You didn't visit the National Museum? You didn't visit the art museum? You didn't visit the Olympic Stadium or the Railway Station, the archipelago or many world-famous architectural sites? You didn't go to Nuuksio? I mean, you didn't even want too see anything... And Estonia and Finland are funny? Huaskuahan puaskau.
Mikael Agricola DID not invent the Finnish language. He invented only written Finnish. Finnish has been spoken for thousands of years...

Mkrrrrr Arrghh-Zero Cola did a good job, though!
I'm Finnish but I live in England and its so great to see people explore Helsinki and taste the traditional foods. Hope you had a great trip.

The Lutheran cathedrals aren’t supposed to be flashy. If you want to see bling bling and gold, visit an Orthodox one.

im finnish and have been watching your videos for years - so excited to follow all ur nordic travels and hope u enjoyed helsinki :))!
It's actually sauna - with U, not saana. Also, Agricola didn't invent the Finnish language, he just created the first form of the written Finnish.
Exploring Finland's countless lakes and islands is a serene experience.
Agricola didn't invent the Finnish language obviously, he just created the written form of it and came up with the grammar

The Finnish language is very very far related to hungarian. It is a different language. The Estonian language is much closer to Finnish.
