Was diagnosed with several spinal fractures and dexta showed normal bone density ! Was pulled at great speed by rottweiler year before and humerus bone prior to this event was an avid gym goer Weight bearing workouts etc Consultant called it bone fragility even though severe osteoporosis was diagnosis
Hi Dr. Lisa! Thank you so very much for taking the time to educate us. I was bummed 16 months ago whe I got an osteopenia diagnosis and have been working on strength training ever since. So, stumbling onto this group has been a HUGE help!
Thank you. Any idea on the 2 year span? If you fracture high likely hood you will do so again within 2 years. Does that mean after two years, we’re safe? 😜
Safety is an illusion, but understandable that we would wish for that. ....The statistics support that the greatest risk is within the first 2 years. It varies but continues to be increased for risk for at least 10 years.
I fractured my wrist two years ago hiking. Was rushing/fast hiking. Tripped fell forward landed on rock on my chest bone, knees and wrist. wrist factured. Age 60. Ortho never once mentioned osteoporosis. A year later asked to have my bones scanned after I read those with fibro have higher incidence. Despite being a hiker, daily 2M hilly walker and yoga 14 years was diagnosed. I'm still confused whether my wrist facture (didn't show up initially on xay only on 3 week follow up as healing shadow) was considered fragility or not in terms of future fracture FRAX score risk. Ortho said I was a fast healer on follow up xray after telling me on first xray I had no fracture.
