  • What’s your favorite movie sequel of all time? For some of us, it’s the Godfather Part II, for others it’s The Empire Strikes Back, or maybe you’re into Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. In any case, one of the greatest sequels of all time has to be Terminator 2: Judgement Day. T2 is James Cameron’s 1991 masterpiece that follows up the original 80’s blockbuster. The movie was originally meant to be the end of the road for the Terminator franchise and as such, the ending of the movie serves as a definitive ending to the iconic story. The final confrontation involves the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) taking on the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) who has been hunting the Conner family in order to terminate them once and for all. We're going to dig into this bittersweet, exciting conclusion to perhaps the greatest sequel ever made in this episode of Scene Breakdown!

I wanted to take a moment to express how beautifully portrayed the bond between John Connor and the terminator is to me. Imagining myself as John at 9 years old and being raised by a single mom, the glimpse into what it meant to have a father figure, protector and friend resonated with me on a profound level. I finally showed my two sons (ages 10 and 11) T2 last month. Watching T2 with them was such a special moment in my adult life. I had to fight back some serious tears when John begged terminator not to leave him. I TRULY LOVE THIS MOVIE!

This scene only works so great because of how Cameron trained us to accepting the T800 machine as not Johns surrogate protector but also our protector/father.
That line Arnie gives of knowing why we cry.

I think that one thing that made that scene so intense is something that almnost no one else has commented, and is the fact that when the T800 looks up (when downing to the molten steel) his relative POV is no longer computer type. In all the whole movie, any time that we get the T800 POV is the red screen with the letters and commands, except in that final moment. Through all the movie we experience the T800 evolution from a machine to a more human like figure, and when he says that now he knows why humans cry is the final step, so when he's being lowered to the molten steel and looks up, the director (James Cameron) decided to shows us his POV without the red screen, as saying "now he is no longer a machine"...

Terminator 2 is such a great movie. I've watched it so many times. There are many reasons why T2 is so great. Here's some of them: 1) James Cameron making Arnold's Terminator the hero instead of the villain again is genius. 2) The special effects were truly ground-breaking. 3) Linda Hamilton's Oscar worthy performance as Sarah Connor the former waitress gone mad. 4) Schwarzenegger's memorable one-liners ''I'll be back!'' and ''Hasta la vista, baby!'' 4) The movie had the perfect ending. 5) When you start watching the movie, you try to guess which is the good Terminator and which is the bad Terminator. 6) T2 had some of the most spectacular action and stunt sequences ever put on film and 6) The Terminator's demise is one of the saddest death scenes of a cinematic character.

It wasn't just the sludge that's used as a placeholder for molten steel that was cold; the entire location was extremely cold, and many measures were taken to make it look like it was hot, from the red glow lights to misting water over the actors' skin to make it look as though they were perspiring. The sparks that seem to be flying everywhere in the scene were made by crew members scraping welding machines against random metallic surfaces, which also add to the notion of a warm setting, even though the spark makers were, in all probability, shivering in their bones.
Linda Hamilton's twin sister (who I think is called "Sarah", funnily enough) was first brought in to shoot a scene which was first left in the cutting room floor, in which John and Sarah enable the T-800's learning abilities (prior to which the T-800 wasn't supposed to be able to learn any new skills). The scene, which has since been made available in DVD extras (among other means), depicts Hamilton operating on a dummy Schwarzenegger and reaching into its skull to retrieve the T-800's CPU, while Arnold, posing as the T-800's reflexion in a mirror, guides her through the process. Linda's twin sister was first brought in to play Sarah Connor's reflexion, but ended up playing the T-1000 when it took Sarah's form opposite the real Sarah on screen. It's worthy of note that, just after the deleted scene, John finds the keys to a parked car in the sun visor of said car whilst the T-800 busts open the steering column to try and hot-wire the car. John brandishes the keys whilst saying "Are we learning yet?", even though the T-800 proceeds to activate the car without the need for keys. Later in the film (and in the following film), the T-800 retrieves car keys from the sun visors of the cars to which they belong.

I was so little when I saw the first two terminator movies. But instead of being a small child with nightmares, I was a small child with two heroes sorry three heroes. I was a little kid who looked up to Kyle Reese, but then I was a little kid that looked up to Arnold and Sarah. Yes I knew Arnold was an actor, but I didn’t care about Arnold as an actor. I loved the character the T 800 and I loved the character Sarah. And even though I was a very small child, I still understood the story arc that Sarah had become like the machines, but then she found her humanity , and instead of wanting to kill, she became someone who wanted to save. And I couldn’t get enough of that as a child. I think that’s what grounded me into the kind of games and movies, and even music that I like. I want to experience a story in what I interact with. And I wanted to be a good complex story. And that love began with the first two terminator movies. And just like these first two movies, I don’t want to hear exposition, I don’t want to see bullshit action scenes, I want to see a story that naturally plays out with characters that are believable, because as a small child , I found Kyle, Reese, Sarah, Connor and T 800 as believable characters. I found the T 1000 as a believable character and even as a small child, thanks to the way the story was told, I was intrigued at the T10 and wondered what if he could feel emotions. Because of the way that the T10 tilts his head every time she is killing someone, it made me wonder even as a child, is he studying their reaction and learning. Such little details, that thanks to good storytelling, made me think and to this day things like that still make me think

Many consider Superman II as superior to the original Superman also. The same goes for Mad Max 2 compared to the original Mad Max.

aside from the move itself being so amazing (the extended is better making the t-800 more human), the score is the perfect combination of inspiring and utterly and sadly devastating. it's something like too beautiful to live, for music

Very powerful scene indeed, but I’ve always liked the scene where Sarah runs into the terminator for the first time in the hallway. We know what’s going on, but she doesn’t.

I saw it for the first time as a kid with my older brother at the drive-in movie. A memory of a very beautiful evening. After that, me and a friend, we wanted a "portable computer" like John Connor used in the movie 😂 Of course, my friend had bought one more powerful than mine, you know how it was 🤣

Top Gun Maverick is definitely one of those superior sequels. But T2 may be the greatest sequel ever made. Camerons own Aliens is up there too.
It doesnt hurt that T2 is also the greatest action movie ever made.
T2 shouldve totally been nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. Linda Hamilton also shouldve gotten a Best Actress nomination. I mean, did anyone ever see Laura Derns movie? If Lucas can be nominated for Star Wars....

About that private jet Arnold got--the "real" reason Arnold refused to do Predator 2 is because Joel Silver refused to let Arnold use his private jet to return back to the USA after filming even though he had let Arnold use it at least once already during filming Predator (for Arnold's honeymoon). Notice Arnold has NEVER worked with Joel Silver since Predator, Arnold's just too much a real-life legend-hero-gentleman to make it any bigger deal than it had to be. So, Arnold's T2 plane IMHO is a clear act of good faith by the studio to show Arnold he would be treated as A-list as it gets and not like Joel Silver did. And that's how we got Predator 2.

Measuring an actor or even a rappers fee according to the words spoken doesn’t make sense. Actors get paid to perform. Not just to deliver lines.
