Nah I love this chapter. I can see why the higher ups didn't want him or Kirara on Jujutsu high: Their abilities are more fitted to fight against other sorcerers instead of just mindless cursed spirits. I like how you can see Hakari grinning 'trollingly' all the time while explaining and fighting. He really comes off as a big mean bully that toys with other sorcerers. It is consistent with him being this gambling addict while being recognized as insanely strong. I also feel Gege is having that kind of trolly fun writting this, since he *literally* has an already meta character yell out something like "Don't ruin this manga"
I liked this chapter too. While it was confusing upon a first read, i liked rereading and analyzing Hakari’s complicated power systems and abilities. If a characters abilities are extremely complicated, it makes that character appear more intelligent and more threatening. That’s why Chrollo Lucifer from HxH is such a scary villain, because he used his inventory of Nen-abilities in such a meticulous way enough to confuse and defeat Hisoka. With Hakari’s intricate cursed technique, like you said, it adds to his trolliness, which is definitely in his character.
Firstly: Hakari's domain gives us a lot of insight into how Gojo's works. Since Gojo has six eyes and limitless, he has access to a theoretically infinite amount of information that he can then sure-hit transmit into his opponent's brain, and that instant kills. Secondly: I love this ability. It's clearly intentionally stupid and overcomplicated, and I think this is a very funny way for Gege to make fun of himself.

After finally being able to learn what his domain is, it’s actually pretty cool. It also looks like this shoujo manga is 1 out 239 other storylines, so I guess it’ll change up every time he uses it
The 1/239 is the base probability of hitting a jackpot, not the number of storylines. But it does say he can "choose the performance" so I do agree that it will be different every time he uses domain expansion. I'm not the biggest fan of it for 2 reasons, 1. It's a little out of place compared to other domains, I'd expect Takada (psycho comedian guy) to have a wacky domain like this. And 2, it doesn't fit well with Hakari's cursed energy, which Yuji and Charles describe as sharp / extremely painful. Why does he have such uniquely painful cursed energy, yet a domain centered around romance manga pachinko. Like what????? It's so random for him to have this super coarse tough painful cursed energy, and then some goofy ass domain

I actually understood it, and from my understanding he rolls or gambles using a ball and after they pop, it becomes a certain color door. After using the reach ability the gambling begins. The doors are a sort of gateway that presents a certain scenario based off this random romance manga, and the technique is only effective if the romance scenes are 100% successful (which is landing a jackpot). The doors color as explained, predicts the level of hype a given scenario may have. Meaning the higher the colors, the higher chance of hitting a jackpot(the colors order being green the lowest ,red middle , and gold high). Not to mention the secret rainbow door which is a guaranteed jackpot, and is probably a instant kill lol. but there’s definitely something bigger being left out of his technique. The probability aspect will likely come into play with some op attack later on. Edit: hakari is op😂😂😂🔥
The balls and the doors are the preview actions, and the scenarios activate after the reach actions which is the slot machines; it’s not like one after the other but both need to activate in order to enter reach mode
He is like an entropy mage of some sort I reckon. At the end he says he uses skill to grab hold of luck. So he is tilting the tables somehow like a card counter. A card counter can't control the cards that are dealt but they know the odds they are betting with.
Yall ur right. Knuckles ability may seem useful on paper but it's not a well thought out power. It's only useful when fighting foes who are weaker or isn't great in combat. foes of his same level or above could easily render his ability ineffective. The only tactic he can use is hit-and-run and hope the enemy doesn't catch up until enough interest is added like his fight with youpi which didn't even work out with two other allies helping him 😆

hakari gets a random colored ball which gives him a certain amount of luck, and a random colored door opens that also gives him luck. If the romance scene is correct hes jackpot if not he busts but there’s a chance a random different scene plays which boosts his luck. simple.
When the exposition double page spread appeared I was like: "THE WALL! THE WALL IS HERE!!! THE HOLY TEXT HAS MANIFESTED AS A WALL OF EXPOSITION!!!" Seriously, I just skimmed through all that, wasn't even gonna pretend I understood the rules of that domain.
What are you going to do when the future fights with hakari's gets more complex as it will have assumed you at least read the basics of his technique(which, funny enough had lots of images and not even that much text). Hopefully when that happens you won't blame the author.

I'm not sure if this excuses the poor way hakaris domain was explained, but I saw a lot of people saying that his domain was meant to be excessive and confusing. Similar to actual pachinko machines or gambling parlors, there are a lot of flashy/unnecessary things to keep you interested in the game instead of focusing on how the game is basically stealing your money. In hakaris case, his opponents are so preoccupied with the rules of the domain that hakari just beats them up, and despite the supposed complexity of the domain, it plays out simply. Hakari gets a preview which also doubles as an attack and has a chance to get a jackpot. If he doesn't get a jackpot he keeps playing until he does. That's basically all there is to it but it's made to be confusing.

Hakari could use the train doors as shields in battle and each one generated would indicate the probability for the jackpot. I play YuGiOh Master Duel, and when you draw x10 packs, each pack glows indicating the rarity of the cards inside (Blue, Gold, Rainbow). Imagine a sorcerer blasting cursed energy towards Hakari, but he creates like a series of domino doors to slow it down, block the blast. Each one indicating a probability and he just spamming theses doors to both attack (shut on opponent) and defend. He would easily get the golden doors this way, unlocking that infinite cursed energy boost. Making this one hell of a fun domain to use.

If this overrides what would have happened with a causal outcome (IE Jackpot means victory even against the highest tier enemies) I think there's the potential for significant payoff from overcomplicating this so much
Well Gojo said Hakari & Yuta can reach his level, alongside Yuji & Megumi, and Yuta said if Hakari is on a roll he can defeat him, so if hakari hits the jackpot he can defeat yuta
anyone with a problem saying that this is overcomplicated does not appreciate the beauty in learning something new. Firstly the real problem isn't because its so difficult to understand but rather there is different terminology. From what we used to. Secondly there are a series of steps to the thing. If we understood the terminology and then the steps needed to ensure victory in the domain then this would be awesome. Personally I believe people complain a lot and don't like to try a lot in today's day and age. There is nothing wrong with not understanding. There is something wrong with not trying though. When you compare this to the other cursed techniques I think the animation screen thing was harder to get, not cause it was more complicated but cause it was a more random ability. When comparing "luck give me a better/stronger hit" to " you are trapped in a anime slide and now I hit you but for some reason you are bleeding like you got hit by a car" the luck one is a more normal thing

It’s hard to understand, thanks for the explanation. This chapter is cool because we as western readers are learning something new about Japanese culture. My opinion is that this whole fight is Gege’s take on a portion of the fanbase that tries really hard to come up with predictions and are upset when said predictions don’t come into fruition. Hence the power that Hakari’s opponent has (looking into the future by drawing a panel on his opponent). Yet like Hakari, the mangaka rides a thin line between getting lucky (having a good reception on their works) and using skill to know when to take action on pressing the button (pure masterful execution of storytelling). Maybe I’m just crazy but that’s my take.
I think the complexity of Hakari’s technique is apart of what makes him so strong. It’s hard for people to grasp and unpredictable so it’s hard to make a counter against it.

I see this more of a... Drawing Cards game... Like UNO Game, rather than Pachinko... Preview Performance are like the Cards that he has. He can throw the Ball, use the Card (Shutter) and Pseudo as the attacks. Think of these as the Number Cards. You have to throw these out. These will influence the outcome of it as well. Think of it as something that would narrow down a scenario, if you will. Like a "Condition" to trigger a cutscene. So those items, will affect the Stars. Which is the "Reach Reaction" but this is to me, is like a Cutscene Multiplier, depending on the Conditions that you get. The rarer, the better. If he gets a Rainbow, that's like getting a Rainbow +4 Card on Uno. A guaranteed change into something he needs/favours like the colours while making his opponents suffer. So that final chance, is like a final gambit. It's like when you're playing Uno, you don't have the cards, have to draw, and you draw a Rainbow. A Jackpot. If he gets a Jackpot, he gets a Time Reduction or a Probability Change. I'm assuming that Time Reduction, is the cooldown of said retries. Probability Change, is lowering the odds, for him to get consistent or more Jackpots, making him more powerful.
So, to dumb it down to the simplest form possible... it's basically Hakari gambling during the fight and the only way to escape his domain is to defeat him before he hits the jackpot... or he hits the jackpot and you basically die/lose. Is that correct?

I think it has high potential but it's certainly no malevolent shrine or coffin of the iron mountain. The most basic way to break it down is that Hikari’s domain is a countdown. Beat him before he gets too many jackpots. We don’t know what types of bonuses he gets but it’s clear it is massive. Everything else is just a distraction to mess with the opposition. Even the info dump is a massive distraction to make them worry about the outcome. This is why Charles isn’t able to focus during his fight because he’s distracted by the cutscenes.
True. Either way if he keeps rolling over and over the chances of him hitting a jackpot would increase due to probability. So before he gets that the enemies need to kill Hakari. Question becomes can they do it? If the enemy is powerful enough then Hakari's domain would be completely useless. But if they are not like Charles its a real slow and anticlimatic beatdown

I like this Domain Expansion, because it shows how the Jujutsu becomes different to the Past. The Golden Age of Jujutsu I always saw as the Pinnacle of a War and the Domains with 100 percent hit and the Simple Domains are good examples of it. But now? Simple Domains are more or Less Useless against Domains like Deadly Sentencing from Hiromi or Hakaris Restless Gambler. In fact, using a Technique who you can't move in a Domain who you can fight without fear of a 100 percent hit might get you to Lose. Simple domains have a good Defense… but that's it. Domain Amplification is (For me) the Perfect Example of a modernized and evolved Version of Simple Domain. They are more effective in the New Age Domains without 100 percent hit rate and i can imagine that someone like Miwa who has no Innate technique becomes a Game changer because of it.

I just took it as, you start the round, a cutscene plays that no one has any control over, and if he gets the good ending (jackpot) he gets a buff and increases the chances of another jackpot it keeps going. I mean, we saw a man who recreates a whole trial, another wich technique allowed him to basically manifest cupon prizes. This isn't THAT crazy, given the standards of this arc. From my perspective it's pretty cool, matches the character, and the Jackpot feels so good to watch. Balance wise, it may sound like it's utterly broken, but it's a slot machine after all, the only boost he gets from the domain, appart from the Jackpot, he gets a guaranteed hit, it's not a death sentence like Mahito's domain or future Megumi's domain (Mahoraga + Quimera Shadow garden = You screwed :D), if you can't display a simple domain or impose your domain, you'll have to overpower him hand to hand, and it's not impossible.
When you read the chapters, none of the charts are really necessary to follow the fight. I 100% think it's like when Togashi included all of the cards in Greed Island, it's extra info for the readers who want it, unnecessary to parse if you don't. It also sets up the joke you mentioned, where Charles complains. I think it is a bit to tease the ridiculousness of info dumbs (including some of his own) while also providing extra info for those who want it. He easily could have just let the DE play out and we would have figured out what the power is. It was supposed to be funny and entertaining, and people are taking it too seriously.

After finally being able to learn what his domain is, it’s actually pretty cool. It also looks like this shoujo manga is 1 out 239 other storylines, so I guess it’ll change up every time he uses it
The 1/239 is the base probability of hitting a jackpot, not the number of storylines. But it does say he can "choose the performance" so I do agree that it will be different every time he uses domain expansion.
I'm not the biggest fan of it for 2 reasons, 1. It's a little out of place compared to other domains, I'd expect Takada (psycho comedian guy) to have a wacky domain like this. And 2, it doesn't fit well with Hakari's cursed energy, which Yuji and Charles describe as sharp / extremely painful. Why does he have such uniquely painful cursed energy, yet a domain centered around romance manga pachinko. Like what????? It's so random for him to have this super coarse tough painful cursed energy, and then some goofy ass domain

I actually understood it, and from my understanding he rolls or gambles using a ball and after they pop, it becomes a certain color door. After using the reach ability the gambling begins. The doors are a sort of gateway that presents a certain scenario based off this random romance manga, and the technique is only effective if the romance scenes are 100% successful (which is landing a jackpot). The doors color as explained, predicts the level of hype a given scenario may have. Meaning the higher the colors, the higher chance of hitting a jackpot(the colors order being green the lowest ,red middle , and gold high). Not to mention the secret rainbow door which is a guaranteed jackpot, and is probably a instant kill lol. but there’s definitely something bigger being left out of his technique. The probability aspect will likely come into play with some op attack later on.

He is like an entropy mage of some sort I reckon. At the end he says he uses skill to grab hold of luck. So he is tilting the tables somehow like a card counter. A card counter can't control the cards that are dealt but they know the odds they are betting with.

Yall ur right. Knuckles ability may seem useful on paper but it's not a well thought out power. It's only useful when fighting foes who are weaker or isn't great in combat. foes of his same level or above could easily render his ability ineffective. The only tactic he can use is hit-and-run and hope the enemy doesn't catch up until enough interest is added like his fight with youpi which didn't even work out with two other allies helping him 😆

hakari gets a random colored ball which gives him a certain amount of luck, and a random colored door opens that also gives him luck. If the romance scene is correct hes jackpot if not he busts but there’s a chance a random different scene plays which boosts his luck. simple.
When the exposition double page spread appeared I was like: "THE WALL! THE WALL IS HERE!!! THE HOLY TEXT HAS MANIFESTED AS A WALL OF EXPOSITION!!!"

The info dump which was put into Charles mind simply got revealed to us at the beginning of the chapter, if it was explained as the fight was progressing, it would have actually slowed down the fight to an annoying degree.
Anyway, you're free to skip stuff, but when it comes back later, don't be too surprised, the action will be pointless if you can't understand the context behind them.

I'm not sure if this excuses the poor way hakaris domain was explained, but I saw a lot of people saying that his domain was meant to be excessive and confusing. Similar to actual pachinko machines or gambling parlors, there are a lot of flashy/unnecessary things to keep you interested in the game instead of focusing on how the game is basically stealing your money. In hakaris case, his opponents are so preoccupied with the rules of the domain that hakari just beats them up, and despite the supposed complexity of the domain, it plays out simply. Hakari gets a preview which also doubles as an attack and has a chance to get a jackpot. If he doesn't get a jackpot he keeps playing until he does. That's basically all there is to it but it's made to be confusing.

That's the thing tho, when the rules are transmitted to your brain, do you instantly gain complete understanding of them no matter how complex? Or is "transmitting to your brain" the equivalent of letting you skim the rule page for 3 seconds.

I feel like it's needlessly complicated because pachinko machines are needlessly complicated a variety of random rules and events to hide the fact the player is wasting money on whats ultimately a dice roll.
I think the ability is so dope. That last double spread with Hakari kicking Charles was one of the top pages of this arc so far. I don't see how people who have watched a lot of slice of life anime don't like his technique.

From our understanding of Hikari's character a domain expansion based on gambling makes perfect sense for him and since the manga is set in japan it's based on a japanese gambling machine. The part about the slice of life manga is even more interesting because it gives us insight into who Hikari is. Despite his laid back/tough-guy persona he enjoys slice of life manga which is a legitimately interesting juxtaposition. Hakari could use the train doors as shields in battle and each one generated would indicate the probability for the jackpot.
I play YuGiOh Master Duel, and when you draw x10 packs, each pack glows indicating the rarity of the cards inside (Blue, Gold, Rainbow).
Imagine a sorcerer blasting cursed energy towards Hakari, but he creates like a series of domino doors to slow it down, block the blast. Each one indicating a probability and he just spamming theses doors to both attack (shut on opponent) and defend.
He would easily get the golden doors this way, unlocking that infinite cursed energy boost. Making this one hell of a fun domain to use.

anyone with a problem saying that this is overcomplicated does not appreciate the beauty in learning something new. Firstly the real problem isn't because its so difficult to understand but rather there is different terminology. From what we used to. Secondly there are a series of steps to the thing. If we understood the terminology and then the steps needed to ensure victory in the domain then this would be awesome. Personally I believe people complain a lot and don't like to try a lot in today's day and age. There is nothing wrong with not understanding. There is something wrong with not trying though.
In a nut shell what I am trying to say is that I like that JJK is diverse in its fights makes it interesting to read and even more cool if I don't understand whats really happening. That just means that my time as reader is being respected because I am learning new things!

It’s hard to understand, thanks for the explanation. This chapter is cool because we as western readers are learning something new about Japanese culture. My opinion is that this whole fight is Gege’s take on a portion of the fanbase that tries really hard to come up with predictions and are upset when said predictions don’t come into fruition. Hence the power that Hakari’s opponent has (looking into the future by drawing a panel on his opponent). Yet like Hakari, the mangaka rides a thin line between getting lucky (having a good reception on their works) and using skill to know when to take action on pressing the button (pure masterful execution of storytelling). Maybe I’m just crazy but that’s my take.
I think the complexity of Hakari’s technique is apart of what makes him so strong. It’s hard for people to grasp and unpredictable so it’s hard to make a counter against it.

Preview Performance are like the Cards that he has. He can throw the Ball, use the Card (Shutter) and Pseudo as the attacks. Think of these as the Number Cards. You have to throw these out. These will influence the outcome of it as well. Think of it as something that would narrow down a scenario, if you will. Like a "Condition" to trigger a cutscene. So those items, will affect the Stars. Which is the "Reach Reaction" but this is to me, is like a Cutscene Multiplier, depending on the Conditions that you get. The rarer, the better. If he gets a Rainbow, that's like getting a Rainbow +4 Card on Uno. A guaranteed change into something he needs/favours like the colours while making his opponents suffer. So that final chance, is like a final gambit. It's like when you're playing Uno, you don't have the cards, have to draw, and you draw a Rainbow. A Jackpot. If he gets a Jackpot, he gets a Time Reduction or a Probability Change. I'm assuming that Time Reduction, is the cooldown of said retries. Probability Change, is lowering the odds, for him to get consistent or more Jackpots, making him more powerful.
So, to dumb it down to the simplest form possible... it's basically Hakari gambling during the fight and the only way to escape his domain is to defeat him before he hits the jackpot... or he hits the jackpot and you basically die/lose. Is that correct?
Yes,he has to defeat him before he rolls successfully reach actions,resulting in having a higher probability of getting the jackpot!(aka a very deadly hit/attack )

I feel like understanding ut becomes a lot easier if you already have like a good knowledge of pachinko, which I think Gege assumed a lot of people would since hes japanese and Japan is also like the biggest market for manga

I think it has high potential but it's certainly no malevolent shrine or coffin of the iron mountain. Honestly I would rather have incomplete chimera shadow garden than this pachinko domain 😂 however, we have only seen the bare minimum from it, when he starts stacking jackpots by getting probability multipliers and chance ups all chaining together, that's him "on a roll" and that's the situation he's stronger than Yuta.

The most basic way to break it down is that Hikari’s domain is a countdown. Beat him before he gets too many jackpots. We don’t know what types of bonuses he gets but it’s clear it is massive. Everything else is just a distraction to mess with the opposition. Even the info dump is a massive distraction to make them worry about the outcome. This is why Charles isn’t able to focus during his fight because he’s distracted by the cutscenes.
True. Either way if he keeps rolling over and over the chances of him hitting a jackpot would increase due to probability. So before he gets that the enemies need to kill Hakari. Question becomes can they do it? If the enemy is powerful enough then Hakari's domain would be completely useless. But if they are not like Charles its a real slow and anticlimatic beatdown

I like this Domain Expansion, because it shows how the Jujutsu becomes different to the Past. The Golden Age of Jujutsu I always saw as the Pinnacle of a War and the Domains with 100 percent hit and the Simple Domains are good examples of it.
But now? Simple Domains are more or Less Useless against Domains like Deadly Sentencing from Hiromi or Hakaris Restless Gambler. In fact, using a Technique who you can't move in a Domain who you can fight without fear of a 100 percent hit might get you to Lose. Simple domains have a good Defense… but that's it.
Domain Amplification is (For me) the Perfect Example of a modernized and evolved Version of Simple Domain. They are more effective in the New Age Domains without 100 percent hit rate and i can imagine that someone like Miwa who has no Innate technique becomes a Game changer because of it.

I just took it as, you start the round, a cutscene plays that no one has any control over, and if he gets the good ending (jackpot) he gets a buff and increases the chances of another jackpot it keeps going. Idk if that completely right but that’s how I understand it at least

Basically:- bro Pulls a gambling machine…In order to attain a jackpot he needs to start with indicators that are random (green : less luck ) gold : more luck
That then transitions to give him two numbers in the slot and he runs a cutscene (richi) for the third slot and he can vary the chances by using probability (he controls this) if the cutscene is in his favor he gets the jackpot

I mean, we saw a man who recreates a whole trial, another wich technique allowed him to basically manifest cupon prizes. This isn't THAT crazy, given the standards of this arc. From my perspective it's pretty cool, matches the character, and the Jackpot feels so good to watch.
Balance wise, it may sound like it's utterly broken, but it's a slot machine after all, the only boost he gets from the domain, appart from the Jackpot, he gets a guaranteed hit, it's not a death sentence like Mahito's domain or future Megumi's domain (Mahoraga + Quimera Shadow garden = You screwed :D), if you can't display a simple domain or impose your domain, you'll have to overpower him hand to hand, and it's not impossible.
When you read the chapters, none of the charts are really necessary to follow the fight. I 100% think it's like when Togashi included all of the cards in Greed Island, it's extra info for the readers who want it, unnecessary to parse if you don't. It also sets up the joke you mentioned, where Charles complains. I think it is a bit to tease the ridiculousness of info dumbs (including some of his own) while also providing extra info for those who want it. He easily could have just let the DE play out and we would have figured out what the power is. It was supposed to be funny and entertaining, and people are taking it too seriously.

The thing is hikari's info dump isn't even supposed to be legible, its to show the unnecessary information rushing to his head. It disorients the target and all it does is spin slots until he wins, and then he gets infinite energy. Because of the infinite energy he can chain the domain expansion
