The SR1 has 3 inches travel. For my use, that is more than adequate and for normal flying, I would not want anymore. I can get shaken pretty badly if I fly in heavy turbulence or if I crash, so any more movement would be downright very drastic and totally unpleasant.

What was your experience? Just curious to hear as I thought the whole made in the EU thing etc was a huge part of the appeal so I figured with such low volume they would be very on the ball with customer support.
Cant wait for android xr and samsung release. It sounds very promising, as for pimax. They have an excellent product , however, i can't help but feel they shot themselves in the foot. So unfortunate their ,QA,QC,and customer care is terrible. As Mark said , pimax should be up there at the Top of the tree.in general, I feel very disappointed with pimax Mark is bang on with his thoughts .

No, NOT for access to software because drivers and software that are used to operate the headset itself can easily be thrown into that mix. Anything that is necessary to operate the headset should not be held hostage in a subscription. It could lead back to bricking the headset unless we pay. Games and extended warranty are fine.
For small room probably RS Mega motion platform would be better 🤔. It's in similar price, much better for sim racing but not necessarily better for flying. But it's installed into cockpit, and DOF Reality cockpits are cockpits themselves.
As a long-time VR user who expects to increase my usage, I can definitely say I am not going to use AR glasses 24/7. Take the garbage on social media and increase it by an order of magnitude with AI, then imagine putting it on your face, filling your view all day long. It's going to be mayhem. The good thing about VR headsets is that you _don't_ use them around the clock, yet they are immensily more powerful than glasses because of the full immersion. Superpowers used with care can be magic. But the coming social media shit storm full of 99% fakery needs to be kept off your face and your phone as well :)
Agreed, I think they will become mass adopted because most people are looking for easy and convenience. I think this is all leading to a dumbing down of the masses and like you say it will just get worse with A.I. I can see how this technology will be amazing like in industrial repair and stuff like that but I do worry about its implications for day to day life. Should be interesting.-
I'm really hopeful for the Valve Deckard. I would hope they could make it where accessing your steam games is done without a PC with just a minor loss in visual quality.
I could care less about high PPD. - 35, 50, 57, whatever. What determines my next purchase is FOV. After using 5K+ and 8Kx, I'm not going back to looking through binoculars, no matter how clear the picture is. I'm already invested in base stations so I'd be happy with a low cost light house faceplate without inside out. Make 2 models - one based on inside out and one with lighthouses. What I really want is a Bigscreen Beyond with > 130 FOV. Small size. base station tracking, native SteamVR drivers. I know I'm not alone, Please free market, step up to the plate.
Samsung Display bought eMagin a while back. They have one of the leading micro OLED Display Designs. They have a design with 4k×4k pixels with a very high brightness. Pancake optics have a relatively large light loss, so you need especially bright displays. So, it's actually very likely that Samsung will use micro OLED instead of QLED.
Is it a way to ship the physical product around the world with lower import/export duties? Or would taxes be based on the full amount (headset + subscription)?
Hey Sebastian, did you see the upcoming glasses on Kickstarter called Getter(pronounced jitter)? I pre-ordered one, delivering this March. These guys are from South Korea, and I believe the founder is ex-Samsung.
Yes, but this does not look great. They will not even have 3dof, which means the picture will not be fixed to your room but always move with you. It's gonna be terrible.
Google Gemini, running at all times whether XR Headset or Smart Glasses and no one is talking about the battery impact! Also you cannot call the glasses an XR device as it is only overlaying a basic display in front of the user.
Subscription and/or validation system are an instant no-go. I don't even like the Pimax play layer because their software has sucked. Let it be native SteamVR or OpenXR.
I don't buy pancake lenses the brightness is way to low compared to my psvr2. The psvr2 also gives more immersion than my pico4. If I want a vr headset with it it will definitely be the s3 and not the Quest3.
@@justice_7_7_7 Quest 3 has super sharp lenses but the experience is so bland thanks to the LCD and bad binocular overlap. The PSVR2 is less sharp but a more memorable VR experience for me.
Had no idea that Mark had damaged 2 headsets with eyeglasses and was also a non-virtual racer. Android XR me seems to me only interesting because Virtual Desktop, but concerned about Android's insecurity track record. I don't need the kind of "excitement" that Pimax ownership entails...
The problem is you get various UA-camrs getting hand picked tested headsets and giving great reviews, whereas Joe Public gets the non-tested, hastily churned out hardware. And then the poor customer service when it's not right. It's hardly ever mentioned in the reviews that you stand a good chance of getting a naff headset!
I like your podcasts Sebastian. But I'm just waiting to VR and AR field of view rich to human vision then i gonna buy even if i have to sell my kidney 😂 to be honest I'm ok with lower resolution same as quest 2 but fov is really important for me.
Very true on not wearing glasses on VR. I have Rx lenses for all of mine, and plain with no Rx to protect my Headset lenses if I hand it off to a glasses wearer. As for Pimax, Mark hit it on the head. They are a schizophrenic company that just keeps getting out of it's own way by flooding the market with a bunch of crap nobody wants or needs rather than focusing on their one actual successful product. And as much as I'd like to have a Crystal Light, the Quest 3 is good enough for PCVR, and there's no way I'd buy into that ridiculous prime program. I wonder if we could merge HTC and Pimax and create a single, well adjusted, focused company that doesn't shoot itself in the foot at every opportunity?

It's nice to hear you guys saying you want Pimax to succeed but honestly after all this time where Pimax so clearly showed they aren't interested in what you and others have to say and after causing so many issues for so many people who decided to spend their hard earned money on their sub-par products, do they really deserve to succeed..? Sorry but, USB LINK at 900 mbits it's a lot better than Virtual Desktop (AV1 at 200 mbits it get a big loss of textures because of compression) 900 mbits H264 it's just like a DisplayPort

G2 better lenses and a little more resolution, and using DisplayPort, Quest 2 less quality lenses, a little less resolution, at 900 mbit video 4096 enconder res. and 1.75x upsammplig, better than Reverb G2 ... Then same happened with the Quest Pro and Quest 3, even better because of the lenses, and Pico 4 I've never use it because USB link on that suck as much as Virtual Desktop compared with USB Link on Quest Pro and Quest 3. So, sorry but may be you haven't tried yet or you are not using the right settings. And your brain reaction it's 90 ms, so anything with less latency than that it's more that enough for everything, And USB it's less latency than Wireless, so it win anyways against wireless with Virtual Desktop

And Virtual Desktop, it's good for not too fast motion games/apps, just like any compressed video in UA-cam, the problem it's not with little motion, the problem it's with high detail surfaces moving fast, that create lost of detail and textures, because of the compression, in a racing sim for example, the texture of the asphalt of the track going fast or in a FlightSim at low altitude the trees and details on the ground, it's an smear pixelated mess in Virtual Desktop because the high compressed video streaming from the PC to the headset, and with USB (Wired) Link connection at 900mbits that doesn't happen. Just consider this, a movie in 4K (3820x2160) at 24fps in a BluRay disc (not streaming service) use around 35mbits in H265 codec (Av1 it's created for low bitrates not high bitrates, that's why it's used in streaming video platforms and apps like OBS), and it's good, but 200mbit in AV1 or H265 or H264 for 4096x2208 at 72fps it's not enough, but 900mbits, it is, and you can tell if you compare. I don't know in what world you live in but in my world... there are not many people with 2000 $ € £ just waiting for a "good" headset. I think the market is pretty much maxed out and the next year if it will be one of doom and gloom will make such market shrink like... in the fridge. If Samsung didn't pulled some crazy trick to get that headset well close to 500 $ € £ then it will be just another nice tech demo like Apple and the rest of "dreamers". And Google will cancel that OS before 2025 ends.
I have no idea why these two supposed experts are raving about oled VR >.> Oled has small pixels which make the grid effect so much worse and I'm not even talking yet about flicker, low brightness and longevity. The"magic" of the Varjo headsets is that they use good LDC tech that does not have worse color at all, but a fully for VR made LCD with no pixel border at all, great brightness etc. Oled is just not a good tech for VR
I've got a varjo vr3 and an apple vision pro. The vision pro has a picture better than the varjo in the context displays and overall, but the varjo is slightly sharper in the focus displays - which are also OLEDs! Did you even know that varjo vr3/xr3 also had oled focus displays? OLEDs are fantastic displays, but come with challenges to overcome like any display technology Oh and the vision pro has basically no screen door effect either

Nothing has changed. Just waiting second set of lenses. I really belive that they have sended good lenses to review, but lenses costumers get are like worse than i have seen. Im not new to Vr i have 4 headsets. Lenses are really really bad. Blurry lines and distortions. I dont know where that ”crystal” comes. Far from that
From the specs I'm seeing on the Pimax website the 57 has a FOV of 120 and the 50 has a FOV of 135. I am truly confused by the differences of opinions on specs and what they represent. Can someone clear this up? It does seem to me that if the range is between 120 and 135 - that would be significant. Am I wrong?

FYI, Pimax doesn't have a corner on poor customer support; Somnium's customer support is abysmal also - speaking from experience.

Samsung is developing micro oled on glass instead of silicon which makes the screens bigger while being cheaper to produce.

The psvr2 is crap because of the lenses. So sad they were so clueless to go with fresnel. Unbearable for those who are detail oriented.

It's not, video will still be compressed and decompressed which introduces latency. DP is still king, but I get you, it's already looking good.

Im not new to Vr i have 4 headsets. Lenses are really really bad. Blurry lines and distortions. I dont know where that ”crystal” comes. Far from that
From the specs I'm seeing on the Pimax website the 57 has a FOV of 120 and the 50 has a FOV of 135. I am truly confused by the differences of opinions on specs and what they represent. Can someone clear this up? It does seem to me that if the range is between 120 and 135 - that would be significant. Am I wrong?
