Hi guys, its been a minute. it must be about time for some more duran duran . i see jon & dolly have been doing quite a few DD reactions recently. they are great!! fyi though, i think jon is actually a closet duran duran fan . he knew quite a bit about them ! the thing with these guys you probably haven't noticed as much yet is that every album they do is very different to previous albums - they experiment and change a lot. you will see this in this video which was the lead single from their 4th album released in 1986. the plan was to come back together as a band after 12-18 mths apart following their massive 1984 world tour. but when they came back together there were only 3 of them - not 5,. 2 members didn't return for various reasons (their guitarist signed a massive deal as a solo artist, and their drummer just wanted to get away from the craziness of their fame). they also had issues with their label having to battle to get the new record released. you will hear their response to both issues in the lyrics - and trust me this is a whole different sounding duran duran than you have heard - but it's awesome. this song followed a view to a kill, which followed the wild boys (both of which you have heard). travis - i think your'e gonna love this one (I already know suzie will be in). cheers matt ps looking forward to hearing 1 if not both of you say somewhere in the reaction "come on, that bass is fantastic" :)
John Taylor is one of the most underrated bassist. He is beyond EXCELLENT
He's not underrated. His peers recognize how great of a bassist he is, and he received Bass Player Magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.
Yes He still is.. and when Roger joins him on drums hits keeps on going.. On the rythm section.. Simon writes amazing
Such a great song. The bass line is so good.
There is a reason they are in the hall of fame
Check out their off shoots that happened back in 1985. Duran Duran took a break - Simon, Nick and Roger created a group called ARCADIA and John & Andy Taylor created THE POWER STATION with Robert Palmer. Both groups are amazing. Arcadia - "Goodbye is Forever", Election Day" & "Say The Word". The Power Station - "Some Like it Hot", Get it On Bang a Gong".
John Taylor probably the most underrated bass player in pop/rock
Very true! He rocks!!!
I LOVED how shook you were when it started 🤣🤣🤣 This is a great song & their "new" sound was the result of their 1st-time collab with the legendary Nile Rodgers of CHIC fame. He produced and played guitar on this track!
Also influencing their sound was the absence of their drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist on the majority of the tracks, Andy Taylor, as they both left the band. When you have Warren Cucurullo and his style of guitar along with Nile Rodgers and drummer, Steve Ferrone, and his drumming style, the sound is going to change even more than from the concept of making a funk-inspired album.
This was not Duran Duran's first collaboration with Nile Rodgers. Rodgers remixed "The Reflex" single in winter of 1984 and then co-produced "The Wild Boys" single with Duran Duran in the summer of 1984. The "Notorious" album itself was co-produced by Duran Duran and Nile Rodgers.
The new sound was inspired before Rodgers became a part of the project. Duran Duran were listening to Motown music and funk and the likes of Sly and the Family Stone prior to wanting to make this album. Yes, Nile Rodgers played on the Notorious single along with multiple other tracks. Former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor played on 4 of the songs on this album and then quit, and Warren Cuccurullo played guitar on various tracks as well.
The Notorious sound within the album is diverse from Proposition to Notorious to Skin Trade to Winter Marches On. The sound of Duran Duran also changed with having 3 guitarists on the album and being without Andy Taylor's playing on the entire album along with the absence of his co-songwriting. In addition with Roger Taylor leaving the band, you have Steve Ferrone's style of play on the record. So there are varying factors that influenced this sound that came from Duran Duran with the "Notorious" album. Also, the band likes to go into a different direction with each album as their "Big Thing" album, which followed the"Notorious" album, gives the audience a sonic blend of house music mixed with jazz.
Duran Duran Forever 🥰❤️❤️
John Taylor has been the ❤ of my life since 1982!
That bass❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Some damn good songs that came out in 1986.
This song peak at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 early in 1987.
Just saw Duran Duran in concert and they still sound amazing! Their Notorious album is one of my favorites.
P daddy sampled the chorus for his tribute song to Biggie Smalls. Duran duran gave them permission immediately to use it
Paula Abdul was one of the female dancer in this video ! Did you know ?
John and Nick discovered funk and soul music at this time and that gave them the idea for this album. A lot of the songs are names of old hitchcock movies they were watching at the time. Andy finished four songs until he decided he wanted to go solo halfway through the album and didn't tell the rest of band so they only had Nile Rodgers to play guitar but one day a guy by the name of Warren Cucurulo who eventual spent 13 years with DD called them and said that Andy was going solo and he knew because the members of his band Missing Persons was in Andy's band now and Warren needed to have a job so DD hired him as their lead guitarist. He wasn't named an official member until the early 90s. He was, according to John, a virtuoso because he could play anything. After that he was let go in order for the reunion to happen with Roger and Andy. Andy left again in 2006. Eventually, Dom Brown was hired as their touring guitarist and has remained there ever since. He also wrote a few songs with them along the way.
Great band love these guys. Great reactions
Love you guys 👦 ❤️ 💓
Hello 👋 from Pa USA 🇺🇸 💖 💕.
Loved this! As a Duranie & jazz-lover, the whole album has always been a fave due to the jazzy, funky element throughout (though bittersweet since reduced to 3 band mates 😢) Nile Rodgers produced it & yes, the late GREAT Notorious B.I.G. sampled it, RIP King 🙏❤ You guys always give great reactions & Im glad you liked one of my faves ❤🎶
This really takes me back!💘💘💘
My favorite Duran song!
Saw them do this in concert, many years ago at the fabulous Forum in L.A. great memories 🤩
you should check out their cover of "White Lines", performed with Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel. They also did an amazing covers of "Perfect Day" and "Needle And The Damage Done" (rare).
Lou Reed said in an interview that Duran's version of "Perfect Day" is the best recording of any of his songs, and if he could've performed it as well as Duran Duran did, he would have.
Yeah, D.D. could get funky with the best of 'em --part of their appeal. "Notoriuos" was all over the radio and in heavy rotation at every club in the country. And I've seen more than one action-crime flick when the head gangsta makes his entrance to this song!! I'll give you 4 stars for your chair-dancing.
They are still playing this live on there current future past tour 🎉🎉🎉 listen to skin trade of the same album notorious it's epic brilliant awesome amazing band 👌👌👌👍
My band!!❤🎉
Wasn't John Taylor so pretty back in the day with his luscious mane.😄😄😄
DON'T FORGET THAT "KILLER" SMILE. SENT NEARLY EVERY FEMALE INTO HEART FAILURE MODE, HE HAD ACWAY OF MAKING YOU THINK HE WAS JUST SMILING AT YOU.
John Taylor had a massive appeal, too, so much so that he went solo around between 1995-2001 and even had a single called "I Do What I Do for the movie" 9 1/2 Weeks and a song you guys should react to. It's so different from Duran Duran's music. He also was in the band Neurotic Outsiders, and before this album, Notorious worked with Robert Palmer to form the band Powerstation, who you should check out too. It had 2 hit singles. One is Some Like It Hot and the other was a remake of a 70s song. It's a great album.
To be specific. John Taylor went solo during the Medazzaland sessions as he was involved in four tracks and then quit the band in 1997. He did release his own album in 1995 called "Feelings Are Good And Other Lies" and more material through 2002. And as you state, he worked outside of Duran Duran with the Neurotic Boy Outsiders, which included: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses) and Matt Sorum (The Cult and Guns N' Roses). The band later changed their name to Neurotic Outsiders.
Steve Jones and John Taylor replaced original members Billy Idol and Steve Stevens (known as Billy Idol's guitarist in the early 80s). They weren't a serious band meaning they were just playing gigs at the Viper Room in L.A. When Jones and Taylor joined the band, Maverick, Madonna's label, offered the band a contract and the band recorded an album and went on a U.S. tour. The band existed
between 1995-1997.
Insane
this is a very good song, try their song skin trade its a good one also.
Notorious album is 🔥
As Much As I Adore Duran Duran This Is Thanks To Nile Rodgers 🔥🔥🔥
Paula Abdul choreographed the dancers.
YOU two REALLY need to check out POWER STATION. JOHN AND ANDY TAYLOR TEAMEC UP WITH ROBERT PALMER
JOHN'S BASS PLAYING ON THOSE ARE AMAZING
This was their "TEENY-BOPPER" YEARS 80'S, 😂
The typical Simon s "cry singin"..
I wasn't a fan until the 90's and "COME UNDONE"
But Andy didn't have a hit with his solo album even though he got a big record contract. Without John, for me Duran Duran is nowhere!
I just looked for a reaction vid. Why do people have to be insufferable and have blue hair?
