    Today I bought an old 2200C APC UPS. It costs $ 100. I will convert it into a solar inverter. In this video, I will clean it, Add a battery connection, reduce the no-load current and test its capacity. In the next video, I will add a large capacity MPPT charger, Automatic switches and protective devices.

      How you claim, it works as solar inverter. On other way you connect the batteries on load test.....
      Connect the solar to it and then load test....variable solar voltage and current not support apc ups then it shutdown immediately.

      Why do you calculate the no load output with 48v? Is the UPS 48v or 24v?

      When you added that filter coil to reduce the no-load current, how did you calculated the number of turns, wire section, type of core, etc?
      Is there any math behind it or in this case was an arbitrary choice?

    Thank You for that excellent video!!! I did a Cyber Power 1900 a few months ago, not nearly as neat as your example here. That was great how you figured out how to reduce the idling current of your inverter! And wound your own inductor!! My UPS draws 55 watts at idle, and I always felt that was a bit high. I may try to duplicate your idle current fix on it. I run my ups output into a 6 circuit generator transfer switch. It is great to have when the power goes out .All I see is the 20 Milli second light flicker when power goes out. Its easy to miss that! It takes care of power outage with no intervention on my part. I did not know I have a brother somewhere. Thanks for posting your video!!!!

    Cool bro! Wish I understood how that inductor works to lessen the load... It has no losses while load applies, or affects waveform in some way? I'm not sure why some people are hating this video because you didn't build it yourself. At least you bought it used, and refurbished it. If they are so smart they should make their own videos. You're the one with all the views and subs. Good job !

      I'm just an amateur, I've seen Chinese inverter (use EGS002 modules) use an inductor at the transformer primary. and the no-load current drops. So I tried it. Thankfully it worked fine, The waveform did not change, it is still true sine. Conversion performance increases.

      @@PhdHung The inductor serves to filter out the modulation frequency (in the khz range) that the transformer core reacts to by converting most of it's energy to heat due to the hysteresis effect of iron which can't handle such high frequencies, resulting in early core saturation and an increase in the magnetizing energy. A well made transformer that has been specifically designed for the inverter will have enough leakage inductance to filter out the modulation frequency (on the expence of size and cost) eliminating the need for a separate input inductor.

    What happens if there is a short across those 2 completely exposed terminals that you put on the back of the UPS? I am thinking that those skinny wires on the batteries will light up.

    How you remove the UPS time limiter..every UPS natively has set amount of time to stop automatically..how you bypass this one..by modified the circuit or by software?

    Good work to reuse old ups. One question in mind. How did you stopped ups charging mechanism? Or you just have kept disconnected grid input for ever?

      The UPS uses its main transformer to charge the batteries so you cant really "disable" the charging circuit. The way I did it is to just connect a diode between the battery and the UPS. But dont use a regular diode! With a regular diode you have to much voltage drop and therefore power loss. Use some high quality, low RDSon MOSFET, something like multiple IPP023NE7N3GXKSA1 and the LM5050 IC to build an ideal diode. With such an ideal diode you should be able to achieve about 10W of loss max at maximum load.

    Mám otázku, testoval jsem 3 ups a po zapnutí na baterie bez synchronizace ze sítě všechny pracují na 60hz. Potřebuji 50hz. Jak je možné že Vaše ups pracuje okamžitě na 50hz?, je nějak upravená? Moc děkuji.

    Question number 1 where you connected solar panels? 2nd main grid should be taken out from APC 3rd how you are going to charge batteries? We need mpt solar charge controller 24V ?

    A year or so ago I tried several different chokes it helped very little to none
    I concluded that the losses was in the Square Transformers
    I plan on building a toroid for it but I didnt know or check the voltage of the other wires if I remember correctly it has 4 or five instead of two
    Do they need the other wires

      The wire tapping will be like 0,170,220,240 and small two wire loop around 25v for charging.

    I have had an APC SUA2200 running for 6+ month on a 80 kWh diy powerwall with no shutdown. Works fine. I have idle losses lige yours. The filter interests me, but I have gotten hold of a toroidal 3000VA transformer from another brand of 3000 VA/48 volt UPS that has blown electronics. I also got hands on a APC SUA3000 and I think I will swap trasformers.
    It seems than 90+% of the losses at idle is from the transformers which get pretty hot. The MosFets never get really hot.

      Yes, I think if you replace toroidal transformer, the efficiency will be higher. I also replaced mosfet irf4710 with irfp4110. it is much stronger.

    Hi, awesome video here. I just got this exact APC 2200 UPS. I don't have Solar panels/charger. Can the UPS handle charging those external batteries from mains/grid supply?

    Great video Homemade! I have already setup a 600watts solar panels 96V DC with EPEVER MPPT charge controller connected to the same UPS but it shutdown after runtime process ends even if the batteries are fully charged. Can you or any fellow youtubers help me how I can use Hyper Terminal to change the settings of the UPS? What's the command to do this? Thanks in advance!

    I have 3000VA APC UPS and want make solar inverter too. But it cant do first start wirhout mains (if it is solar inverter there are no mains at all). If I connect mains it starts, then disconnect mains UPS keep working on battery. Which element checks mains existance condition? I should remove this element. Can you help me?

      when charging it is quite silent. The fan is noisier when operating at 1500 > 2000W.

    Mr ? Are you sure that is the UPS you are using for those elements you are connecting to? why are you not showing all the cables in your video? i have made so many inverters using UPS transformers and plastics and materials used in the transformer they all melt after a period of time.So i will be satisfied if you can all you cables.     the ups has 2 transformers, I can't understand which primary one connected the toroidal inductor to? Could you share a diagram of that connection? Everything else is clear, thanks for answering me and congratulatios on a job well done.

      Pretty sure the transformers primaries are connected in series so it doesn't matter where you put the inductor, as long as its in the primary winding path

    Software in APC UPS units actually shut them off after a certain amount of time. They will NOT run continuously regardless of the input voltage.

      Where can I find instructions to set up UPS using Hyper Terminal and what parameters to use to disable the runtime process? I am using a APC UPS1500THV and followed your instructions but after the runtime, the UPS shuts down even the batteries are fully charged.

      there speaker inside of it you take it out but ups sucks battery life not that long ok I have few inverter much better I have 500watts,800watts,1100watts,1500wats and 3000 watts inverter am building my own power station with few 20A Breaker and few 15A Breaker and few GCFI out let water proof tool box solar charger USB port etc

      I use MPPT charger 45A. I think your UPS does the same thing.

      ​@@PhdHung yea, today comprove that, I thought about using it, but I was afraid that it could short-circuit the battery charging stage. That is why I opened the ups and I realized that in reality it is a continuous ups and it is only enough to remove the 220 VAC input and in that case the ups will recognize the charger, it only requires a 72VDC input. Thanks

      Yes, it works at 48V, in my country, it has a lot of second hand shops. A lot cheaper than a new inverter.

      The no-load power of the APC2200 is 80W. After adding the inductor, the no-load power is ~40W.

    hôm rồi anh tính mua cái cục này 1 triệu rưỡi ....nhưng không mua ...uổng quá...,he he he nhưng đợt trước anh nói với em là anh có 2 cái biến áp của cục này ...tính nhờ em làm inverter...để em quay video đó.....he he he hôm nào thiết kế theo ý của em nha,,......he he he anh chỉ có 2 cục biến thế này thôi....
