The Devil among demons Raian is definitely a monster in every facet of the word but you do see some facets of humanity in him. He’s arrogant but acknowledges the strong when he sees them, be it in combat or character He’s selfish but holds a great deal of pride and loyalty with his clan. He’s a psycho but also has enough restrain and clarity to give warnings and even advice to other fighters like Ohma, Ryuki, and Koga.
This is why I love his character so much, and his importance in omega has yet to be elaborated upon. His character development has to be up there with Prince zuko from Last Airbender.
Kure Raian is a modern day reflection of Kure Erioh. Everything about his arrogance and strength to his eventual defeat leading him to embrace the Kure Clan techniques that he'd turned his back on out of said arrogance. Hell at one point in Omega they even have him wear the same style trench coat that Erioh wore in his post ww2 days just to show how much of a successor Raian will be in terms of power and legacy.
i like that he is a different type of 'brute force' than the other powerhouses like Waka and Julius from the start he's pure aggression combined with excellent striking, actively choosing to not to use his more complicated kit over uncontrolled relying on it to much and then adapting after the losses slowly melting tech into his base kit and shifting towards total dominance not even letting his opponent use their own strength. Most of his growth is just so he can dunk on people harder.
Raian and Sekibayashi are a good matchup, because Raian is willing to take hits, talk smack, and start conflict in the "locker room"...you know...like a heel wrestler.
6:45 "he knows he sucks ass using them" no not really, sandro said that raian was exaggerating how rusty he was. AND it does make sense, raian is super critical of everyone's technique so he probably has an equally high standard put on himself as well
In simple terms Raian is the hammer and his opponent is the nail there’s no fight just the hammer smashing down on the nail until it’s job is finished that’s when raian is his best
I like how despite their opposite personalities, Raian's journey isn't that different than Rihito's. Ohma proved to him that he can't always brute strenght his way so he relearned the Kure techniques. Edward and Gilbert proved to him that his mastery over the Kure techniques was insufficient, so he went on to practice with an unconfortable as fuck long katana in order to master Redirection. While he will remains always as a cocky psycopath, he's becoming more and more technical, and that would probably affect his personality with time the same way Erioh also mellowed out.
@@Syhnc yeah, I think Kengan in general is the martial arts manga that better portrays growing as a fighter after losing. Even if the path taken might be the wrong one (thinking in Cosmo and Okubo here), there's always a constant action towards improving one self after a defeat.
The reason he beat Eddie is because of the poison from Eddie being stabbed, not because he was that good. Read the lore from Sandro, he clearly stated that the poison is the only reason Eddie was weak enough for Raian to rip his neck like that.
It was a combination of things, but I seem to recall the full explanation was that the poison and the small wound on Edward's neck created a weakness that Raian could exploit, which he used to devastating effect. Moreover, Raian got way more motivated by the end of the fight, showcasing just how ungodly strong and durable Raian is to the point where even Edward was taken aback by it. I'm not going to say that Raian is stronger than Edward Wu, because he isn't, but people like to undersell just how strong Raian is just because he exploited a vulnerability.
I remember in the time before chapter 50 of Omega, speculation was rampant about what Raian was up to in the meantime, and what he'd be like when he inevitably re-emerged. Since he was already clearly the black sheep of the family of selectively bred genetic superhuman killers, as well as generally the one relative that nobody likes, it stood to reason that he might actually grow a bit as a person as he matured, since he was one of the youngest fighters in the KAT. Many of us thought his development might even mirror that or Erioh, with him coming back as a family man who had settled down considerably and was much more emotionally stable and leveled off. So, it was amusing to see that he actually hadn't changed at all, with his lone difference being that he was marginally more reigned in than before (keyword being "marginally") and had probably the closest thing possible for him to a friend in Ohma (which was really more like having an equally afflicted playmate for his fighting autism). He was also sorta, kinda nice to Koga that one time when he gave him something that could be construed as encouragement. Things were pretty fine with him up to the aftermath of him ripping Alan in half, which was followed by him speeding off to chase Eddie around backstage (which was hilarious because their Wile E. Coyote-Road Runner chase lasted almost a year in real time), but after that, what's followed has been Sandro seeming kinda desperate to preserve his hype as this unbeatable monster of the Kure Clan with limitless potential. Here's hoping he can come up with something more interesting for him in the future.
@@Syhnc Admittedly, it was more of a meme than anything, with the idea of him following in the footsteps of his grandfather being the main source of that idea.
As much as I wanna see Saw Paing fight Gaolang again or maybe have his rematch against Simp Sasuke, I am however most excited to see him fight Raian Kure.
Man please keep this series going because one they're great videos and two I love the breakdowns of the characters also you provide videos about their fighting styles even if its from other creators
Yes, pretty much I feel the same over Raian: I begtudgingly admit that he's strong, but as a human being he's disgusting, probably his apex of evil was mocking Kazuo over his son (making his defeat at the hands of Ohma well-deserved) SPOILER I also really dislike his latest "Ootakemaru" power up from Omega
Ay there was a lot of missed information in you video raian likes using brute strength, but he’s also a skilled martial artist. his fighting style is the Kure techniques
Correct! He does have the Kure techniques and uses them against Alan Wu and a few fodder chars. He mentions that he CAN use the Kure techniques in Ashura but preferred not to because he doesn't have them fully mastered, and preferred to dominate rather than just win so he opted to just overpower ppl in the KAT
There is depth to Raian even at face value, he could have ran trough Ohma but chose not to use any Kure technique , that shows wining isn’t important to him, it’s winning under his own self imposed rules and code that matters something that goes against the wishes and methodology of the Kure clan.
Imagine if raian actually become matured not egotistical not bloodlust anymore and actually locked in and mastered the kure clans moves (also give him 2 braincells) and actually used removal right
Love kure raians character he is a good shit talker and entertaining to see fight. he is one of my top 3 favorites. don’t think he could beat jack hanma like in the cross over but they had to make it even i couldn’t be mad.
Ok so I disagree that there’s a bit more to Rian and it’s his reluctant respect for others and that he’d never say it but ohma is his best friend and also recognizes strength and talent like when he shut the crowd up during ohma and cosmos fight and how he talks to Koga
Tbh, I really want your opinions and backstory on Morobuchi gozo, ide like for ya to mention he didn’t nessasarily get one shot in the manga if possible.
I have to disagree on you that Raian doesn’t have layers, I mean he does. Sure he talks crap to his siblings but it’s obvious that he still care about them and wouldn’t go and kill then, I mean he even told Alan Wu if he didn’t get out of his way he would kill him: which means Raian isn’t just a pure killing machine. Also the fact that he had to do soul searching because everyone he knew was killed off, which ads another layer to his character and means there more to Raian than the base level. Hell the fact that both he and Ohama work togetherc train together and i think even in one chapter considers Ohma brother shows that.
How about the fights with ohma? I think those fights weren't one sided so raian has won fights with high difficulty and not all the wins are just dominating the opponent
Homelander is insecure and thinks he is the center of the universe. Raian is someone who will challenge other so he can become stronger and he doesn't say he is the best but instead he shows why he is the BEST.
Once I realized raian just exists to be a min/maxed edgelord he became one of my favorite characters
