My brother-in-law bought a new Harley in 1999 it was dripping on the show room floor when they took it out to the shop to check it there was a bolt missing so when they took the cover off there was no threaded hole to put a bolt in to they forgot to drill and tap one of the holes awesome quality control.
I watch your vlogs every night as my last video of the evening. I love the car restorations, like but don't understand half of what you do mechanically and have less tan zero interest in motorcycles or trucks. Yet watch them all I do, because they are just the right length. I take my sleepy time bills, hit play - and by the time it's over, the pi;;s start kicking in and I'm ready for bed. Thank you and keep them coming
I love it when people have no idea what they are talking about. Harleys were known for leaking oil back when they were owned/made by AMF because they used cheaper inferior materials. Harleys since then don’t leak unless they have a bad gasket or something like that. I’ve had 10+ Harleys and none of them leaked anything.
Yup, anything that holds oil can leak oil. Can't tell ya how many gsxrs, kawis, and Hondas, I've seen sitting after a ride leaking oil. It's really a reflection of who owns the bike, more than who built it.
My 2013 Harley has over 150,000 miles (See My Sig Picture), has never leaked a drop of oil, and has been a rock-solid runner. That is after a cam, exhaust, and a great tune. The engine was a dog stock.
Most of the negative comments come from guys who have never had their ass in the saddle of a Harley. Mine have all been bullet proof and non-leakers. This bike was clearly never maintained and sat outside year round.
The V-Rod is my favorite Harley, I really like the looks especially in that silver color. My second favorite would be the XLCH but those are impossible to find. 👍
You know the only time I have ever had a Harley leak oil was someone else had the motor apart before I owned it, using old gaskets over again, or buying after market gaskets, it won’t seal properly and you’ll end up over tightening bolts. Always use NEW factory gaskets and grommets when ever assembling a Harley back together and stay away from silicone. # just my experience
That stator cover will leak again if you did not put the O-rings on it. The plug is actually manufactured for O-rings but for some bizarre reason Harley Davidson never put them on at the factory. You need to disconnect the weatherpack under the radiator cover on the left side of the bike, and then you need to push the pins out of the connector. Make sure you mark the pins very well so they go back into the same place in the connector. From there you need to feed the wires to the stater cover so you have access to the plug then you can push the O-rings onto the plug. There are three of them. I forget what size they are. There is a video on UA-cam of a guy doing a red screaming Eagle stater cover leak and that’s probably the best video out there
I had a 1994 1200 Sportster with Andrews cams, Edelbrock heads and inlet, Mikuni carb, Dynavolt ignition etc., etc., but NO oil leaks. Must have been rebuilt properly whenever all the tuning bits were installed. Was awful to ride with stock chassis and hopeless brakes. Moved it on pretty quickly for just that reason.
@@WatchJRGo Someone will get an awesome bike and I loved this series. Keep the videos coming and l cant wait for your Dad to make another cameo. I seriously enjoy your content, keep up the great work!
The VROD with it's engine and overall design is the only Harley I would've considered. Now that I see it was still built like a Harley I'll pass 😄. That rear axle job would've encouraged me to roll it into a ditch the go buy an Indian.
@nucklesinswitzerland1375 Porsche designed the engine using an existing engine as a base, not from the ground up. And the assembly was still built by Harley, not Porsche.
@WatchJRGo They missed all the basics of assembly. I have a Honda CBR 600rr that's spent most of it's life outside under a cover, been ridden through all types of weather, trackdays, crashed and rebuilt twice and I've not had a single issue this VROD has. For shame Harley, for shame.
It's odd to me that in that shop (I assume it's your father's) that there isn't air lines all over the place and at least one 1/2" rattle gun that would tackle that job. Though I use battery for most of the jobs around the house pneumatic tools are pretty affordable and they don't run out of battery (though you'll have to run a decent compressor)... I love my battery powered tools but even with the annoyance of turning on the compressor, hooking up hoses and adding a couple drops of oil to the tool they often come in "clutch" (pun intended) when you need the POWAHR.
So - you get rid of your shop- you go to your dads place to fix your motorcycle - "your brother" who works for your dad comes along - he stops and helps you- then someone else that works for your dad- stops and helps you.... you ever think you maybe a distraction? (LOL)

That color combo on that bike is timeless. Love it.

V-Rods No NOT LEAK OIL... if maintained correctly..
You should have participated in Tyler's Price Is Right, he would have given you a plug and you deserve more subs.

Looks like a lot of work but should be worth it for the upgrades that should make it ride a lot better. Watching now 👍
Hahaha I am at exxon working nights watching this and he said exxon Valdez. We keep our products in the pipes
I really really hate that I love this bike sooooo much!!!

If you don’t mind me asking whats the part number for the slipper clutch?
I swear JR putting up a new video like almost every day
Where did you buy the Clutch, I'm looking for similar one for my 2013 VROD Night rod and I'm struggling to find a screaming eagle one.
JR, you deserved more subs.
Thing looks great, very unique on the road I'm sure, lots of looks?
Another great video from JR. Thanks
If you can get a Harley to stop leaking, you may be the first to ever do so. 😁
I’m sure trying, every surface is spotless, rtv has cure time, hopefully it’s good to go! 💯
Should be JR
If you can get a Harley to stop leaking.....it may be a suzuki
Even electric Harleys leak oil. 😂
A Harley that isn't leaking oil is out of oil.
The newer V-Rods came with slipper clutches :) my 2009 Night Rod Special came from the Factory with one.. :)
Exactly what does that slipper clutch do? Is it easier to pull the clutch lever with your hand?
Yet another video where we didn't get to watch JR go.
That bike is awesome 🤘🏽🔥😊
Do you know the torque specs for the screws
Such a nice looking bike. I wish I could ride. Lost my lower left leg a few years back. Well technically the hospital lost it

Who was the manufacturer of that bearing, JR?
I learned something new from you.
Are you going to sell the V rod?
Why not use a breaker bar with a pipe if you dont have an impact big enough ?
He didn't have a good way of counter holding. An impact doesn't need as much counter hold.
Yup, no way to counter hold a bar 🍻
@WatchJRGo Will you be selling this once you are done? It will be all sorted so I can just ride and enjoy...keep up the good work!

How come it always takes an hour or so for the captions to show up?
YT auto generates them using AI. Takes processing time.
Someone buy Jr a new hoodie! Maybe the new gf knows what to get him for Christmas
This one doesn’t show dirt 💪
There was nothing wrong with the clutch? The gasket was leaking.
A Harley that leaks oil? I’m surprised, not!
I wonder why would anyone try and fix a leak on a Harley?
When are you going to properly restore the 67 Camaro? The old gal really deserves it.

Lol leaks are part of owning a Harley just like death wobbles.
Even a motor not made by Harley leaks lol
Haha, I think it was just from the rubber grommet… but once you put it in a Harley it’s required

If yours isn’t leaking. Time to add some oil. It’s out.
Why would one of them Hardly-Running -Bikes NOT need EVERYTHING..?😅
Let's goooooooo
You don’t change oil in a Harley just keep adding it
That is actually how the first Harley was designed.
