Mazda has, in my opinion, the best red paint of any brand. That soul red looks amazing on camera, but in person, it looks even better! If I ever decided to get a Mazda, it would definitely have to be in the soul red!
@@amyrichardson7364 every time I pass by a Mazda dealership on my way to work, they have a CX-5 in red right out front lol. It’s like it’s calling my name to buy it just because of the red😂and I already love red, but their red is insane!! I would totally buy it, just because of the color lol
Power folding side mirror should be standard in every model. This CUV is still the best looking car in this segment with the new infotainment system and turbo this is on top of the list for those who prefers speed and luxury. This is the best time to buy CX-5 it's the complete package.👌 👌
@Paul Attard The first thing I noticed about the Tucson is... there is no turbo option, so you're stuck on 187 hp., while the CX-5 can have a turbo that gives you 227 hp, or 250 hp w/ premium gas, and the turbo gives over 300 torque at 4,000 rpm. The CX-5 has a larger fuel tank. The Tucson has Idle Stop/Go... the Mazda does not. With Idle Stop/Go, the engine will shut down every time you stop at a traffic light, and then restart when to let up on the brakes. IMO, this is a terrible and costly thing to have, just for saving a few tablespoons of fuel. Idle Stop/Start wears out many parts on, and in, the engine. In 2021, no new Mazda in the U.S. was given the Idle Stop/Stop technology, which is a big reason why I bought a Mazda. That might change in 2022, though, so keep investigating.
I agree totally on both counts, I had a Subaru outback, and was going to get a 2021, but the minute I saw that they’ve gone over to stop start, I walked away, as well as the CVT transmission, just like you said the CX five has neither and excels in both of those with their alternatives. Just bought the CX five its great.
Having owned a Gen 5 CR-V, and having just replaced it with a 2021 CX-5, I can confirm everything you say about the quality, solidity & driving dynamics. The CR-V wins on internal volume & fuel economy, but pales in comparison in every other respect. Great job by the way - this is one of the best & well thought-out video reviews I have seen,
My next vehicle (my first ever automatic) will likely be a Mazda, simply because they still use standard 6-speed automatics, instead of garbage push-belt CVT's.
I agree totally, that’s why I just bought the CX 5 , and traded in my Subaru outback, they have reverted over to that horrible stop start transmission which I just hate, so I walked away and got the CX 5, it’s a great car
I just bought the 2021 cx5 carbon edition turbo for my wife and we both love this car. We did a lot of research on other brands before our purchase and the cx5 was the clear winner! Great review on the GT Reserve!
Excellent video content and quality. Accurate information. Very informative. I bought my oldest daughter a brand new 2012 CX-5 and now the car is 8 years old and rides like if it was new. No major problems whatsoever. This past weekend I helped my son in law to buy a new 2020 Mazda 6 since my positive experience with Mazda in general. Keep up the good work guys!
Mazda and Volvo are the only makers that I know of that make constant, but noticeable and necessary revisions to their cars each model year. I like that Mazda knows the compact CUV class is red-hot and they know that the CX-5 has to remain relevant. While I hate they still did not give the CX-5 all LED exterior lighting(turn signals/reverse lights) like the CX30(which is odd, considering the 30 is supposed to be a notch below), it is good to know they've finally addressed the technical shortcomings.
GRIPES no one is talking about: The gas tank is really small on these. I find myself having to fill up less than 300 miles of range and that is highway driving The rear seat charging ports and heated seat buttons are placed VERY inconveniently. You lose access if 3 people are sitting in the back or if your rear passengers do not know about it being in the arm rest. The key fob makes the buttons so tiny to press. Large buttons are always better, especially when you have gloves on or press the button while the key fob is in your pocket. Then some things that were pointed out like the hands-free tailgate, the panoramic moonroof, and smaller storage than competition all make it stand out. Would also love to see headlights and taillights have actual LED turn signals and not incandescent. Rear leg room could be better but not bad, and MPGs could be a lot better but the biggest thing holding it back is that it does not have an efficient transmission like an 8 or 10 speed or even a reliable CVT like Honda. Mazda could be a HUGE player if it just pushed it an extra 10% in effort

I keep liking this vehicle more and more after every review. I never use the sunroof to my car so a panoramic sunroof would be pointless if you’re a driver in my opinion.
I have a 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve in red (next to the top Signature model) and aside from the new paddle shifters and a bit more torque my Reserve is pretty much the same vehicle as the 2021. I've upgraded the interior with several good quality Chinese made items from Ali Express for very reasonable prices. Also I replaced the "low rent" hood prop rod with two gas struts. I've added (for over $400. with labor!) factory lighted door sill "CX-5" plates, also MAZDA roof racks and retracting trunk cover. Upgrades make this car even more luxurious. ** Adding 1/2 tank 100 octane gas to 91 octane "western US premium" gas REALLY wakes up this turboed engine.
255 tires, 2 gears, and appropriate tuning hold this back from being one of the absolute best cars in the segment at any price. I think the new Sportage is going to be what I wish this car were. But I'd not criticize anyone who bought it. I think it also screams out for a blacked out trim edition like Kia with the Nightfall.
I have a 2019 GT Reserve. I love its responsive turbo engine. It’s fun to drive. However, on a long road trip, I feel the seat is not comfortable. The seat is my main complaint. Your complaint as you mention in this review is lack of pano sunroof, I don’t care for that.
@@marcos_bm13 pano sunroof is only for Sunday leisure driving. I drive cross country and I hate wind noise. If only there’s an option to delete any sunroof, I would.
The crappy part for USA is you have milage cap on warranty, Canada has unlimited milage warranty.. it’s nice if you do a lot of driving. In 5 years my wife did 150,000km (93,000miles) and in that time we had 2 kids so she was on maternal leave for 2 of those years. And no real issues, just normal wear and tear and a few TSBs. Had 1 warranty job done, it was a squeaky axle seal, and it only started to make noise after about 40 mins of driving, it was a pain to figure out what it was but no leak, just annoying noise on the highway that can only be heard by younger people, my parents and older mechanics could not hear this noise.
I would totally take this over even the new refreshed NX that came out a few weeks ago. I think it just looks so much better than Lexus and it comes at a smidge cheaper price. I like how the interior and exterior looks too since it's a bit more elegant looking than a comparable Lexus and Mazda now has great reliability ratings ever since they left Ford.
Mazda seems to be the one make that the public has always forgotten about. Mazda offers a large selection of safety for the price. Mazda is also very reliable. But, without a doubt...Mazda makes cars that are very fun the drive. I have owned a Miata for 28 years, and they are FANTASTIC! I have a 2020 CX-5 Signature. Mazda needs to step-up their remote start program. It should be standard on the upper trims and should be smart-phone driven. Even my 2017 GMC Acadia had that. I live in Wisconsin so remote start is a big deal.
Almost. they need retained power (after the car cuts off to keep radio and windows operable for a minute or two) and and magnetic phone charging in the console. minor things. but almost all the competion has that.
Mpgs, cargo size, ability to tow, no hybrid option which is hilarious in 2021, tiny infotainment, faux luxury interior that looks beautiful but is verrrry in utilitarian, on board technology needs a lot of work like full working radar cruise, full working parking stop,no digital rear view mirror like competition, no pano?
Thanks, for the review of the 2021 CX-5. I have a 219 CX-5 Signature I bought in December 2019. It's got over 30,000 trouble free miles on it and I love it. I'm getting 23-25 mpg in town and 28-30 mpg on the highway. My only complaints are tht the dark brown nappa leather is too dark, almost black and the existing (old) infotainment system a bit slow. neither are/or should be deal breakers. I plan to keep another 12 plus years like my previous 07 Mazda 6.
I believe you are incorrect or at least it needs clarifying in your statement at 12:35 that only the Signature trim has integrated Navigation. Only the Signature trim has the Navigation data card installed. But all trims have the port in the center arm rest for the Navigation card, which Mazda sells for $450. So, for $450 from Mazda all trims levels can be upgraded to integrated Navigation.
Straight up never had any of these problems with my 2018 Mazda6. I cannot tell you have many times I have had that paint covered in mud and other random shit it has hit since my driveway is partially gravel road. A simple wash and wax and it looks new again. Odds are that you didn't take good care of the car and that is why you have those issues.
Howdy, absolutely great review as always y’all! Now that they have fixed the infotainment system, I’m pleased to say the CX-5 only has 2 faults I can see. One of which is no panoramic sunroof, and the other being the placement of some of the rear seat features. That is the fact that if someone is sitting in the middle, you can no longer access the USB ports and you can’t adjust the heated seats, perfect other than that though! And from my perspective, other than Nissan, CVT’s for life!😸😻😸
Great review! Love these cx5s. I’m waiting to purchase til next year so I can pay cash but love getting all the info I can in the meantime. I read somewhere they may be changing the cx5 in 2022 body style and engine ? Is this true?
@@sparemethedramatics1629 He probably means you should never pay cash for a car or even put money down on a car - it’s an instant loss once you drive it off the lot as that’s when depreciation starts.
The biggest issue for me were the very uncomfortable seats. I'm 6'3 230 and the bolsters on the seat bottom dig into my legs. After about 10 mins it feels like knives stabbing me.
I like the fact that Mazda design is really different compared to many car brands out there, but in terms of practicality that’s their big mistake! Cargo space, leg room, specially the back seat it is cramped for three adults. Mazda should built midsize five seater like the other car brands do..
Looks great! Did they fix the two things that drives me nuts on my 2017? 1. Full auto up/down on windows besides the drivers window 2. Folding down the rear seats with the headrest up. I’m 6ft and I have to either move my seat up or remove my rear seat row headrest every time I fold it down.
I was on the market in 2014. I drove test. I was Disappointed with Mazda CX-5 road noise. I compared with CRV and Forester. I ended up buying CRV. Now I am in the market again. What’s the road noise level of CX5? Is there any significant improvement? I appreciate very much your response.
I wonder how this compares to a 2021 Venza? I know the turbo would be faster, but most buyers aren’t getting these to drag race and every CX-5 isn’t a turbo anyway.
I have been thinking about upgrading to the CX-5 for a while and this is really pushing me to it. I need the cargo space but not that much. The hands free lift would be nice but meh, I haven't had it on my 99 626 or new 2010 6, so why now? :p I do want the higher trims but heck no to the leather! Come on, we live in the Midwest - summer you stick to them with the insane humidity and winter, they are so bloody cold. Going to have to go talk to my dealer and find out what deals I can work when I'm finally ready. Thanks guys!
My 2019 Soul Crystal Red GT Reserve (2.5 T, AWD) has everything the 2021 has but the bigger screen, paddle shifters and integrated satellite ECU automatic upgrades. With 100 octane gas (yep at $8.00/ gallon) my CX-5 FLIES! But I seldom use it in pure 100 octane form, usually it's 1/4 tank 100 octane, 3/4 tank 91 octane. BTW, I bought a "2.5 T" badge for the lower right of my hatch lid. Gotta tell those punk BMWs why they just got spanked! Waiting for a beautiful CX-5 plug in EV.

Only the Signature trim has the Navigation data card installed. But all trims have the port in the center arm rest for the Navigation card, which Mazda sells for $450. So, for $450 from Mazda all trims levels can be upgraded to integrated Navigation.
That is correct
Rear cargo area is lacking compared to a Crv. Rear legroom could be better to be honest. Otherwise it is arguably the best overall small suv.
Great review guys! Nice SUV...
Still a compelling compact SUV Good review
Nice review. Thank you!
I'd like to see theblack trim outside in piano black, would make the soul red and chrome pop.
Glad they did a mini refresh before the full redesign next year
one thing Mazda really needs to add is touch sensitive handles.
@@mbenton6 I agree with you, but I meant the "handles you use to get into the car" kinda like the way mazda 3 has them
Touch sensitive Door handles are far less important to me than adding wireless charging.
If I had that car, I would remove the turbo badge just to make my car a sleeper lol
Great video!!!
Would you choose this over the Outback XT?
I love the 2021 Mazda cx 5, it’s very nice and great price! I saw the blue Tesla at 21:42
What does the voice activation system control? Great thorough review as always.
You guys delivers very efficiently....and that's a key of successful channel 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you for this depth and very well explained CX 5 review....😊😊😎😎
I have 2019 Mazda CX-5 grand touring. I love it the one thing is that the back seats has no leg room.
Picking up my CX 5 GT Sport today 😀
The paint is thin
The frame got rust very fast.
Mazda fix these issue first.
Very thin. You leave like your keys on top the bonnet. Not moving it. Scratches the surface badly.
Only had this issue on Older Mazda's. My 3gt from 2017 has been stellar and has been through a lot.
And from my perspective, other than Nissan, CVT’s for life!😸😻😸
Good job guys
I'm still not sold on the dash layout. The digital one in the centre stands out like a sore thumb. It looks worse at night. I dunno - is it just me?
Great review! Love these cx5s. I’m waiting to purchase til next year so I can pay cash but love getting all the info I can in the meantime. I read somewhere they may be changing the cx5 in 2022 body style and engine ? Is this true?
Dont waste your money.
@@paulwoodbyrne9484 why what’s wrong with them
Last rumor I heard was an inline 6 engine, not sure how soon
@@sparemethedramatics1629 He probably means you should never pay cash for a car or even put money down on a car - it’s an instant loss once you drive it off the lot as that’s when depreciation starts.
You know what bothers me in CX-5, the multimedia screen is drawing too much attention while driving. I don’t need to look at it all the time...
The biggest issue for me were the very uncomfortable seats. I'm 6'3 230 and the bolsters on the seat bottom dig into my legs. After about 10 mins it feels like knives stabbing me.
You need a bigger car...period.
I like the fact that Mazda design is really different compared to many car brands out there, but in terms of practicality that’s their big mistake! Cargo space, leg room, specially the back seat it is cramped for three adults. Mazda should built midsize five seater like the other car brands do..
CX 3
Looks great! Did they fix the two things that drives me nuts on my 2017?
1. Full auto up/down on windows besides the drivers window
2. Folding down the rear seats with the headrest up. I’m 6ft and I have to either move my seat up or remove my rear seat row headrest every time I fold it down.
Nice 👍 reviews, thinking to get one. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
New cx5 is turbo.
@@troytruong8246 Only certain CX-5 models have the turbo.
Btw, the replacement for this, an all new CX-50 with rear wheel drive and maybe even an inline 6 coming Jan 2023.
Very helpful, thanks!
I have been thinking about upgrading to the CX-5 for a while and this is really pushing me to it. I need the cargo space but not that much. The hands free lift would be nice but meh, I haven't had it on my 99 626 or new 2010 6, so why now? :p
I do want the higher trims but heck no to the leather! Come on, we live in the Midwest - summer you stick to them with the insane humidity and winter, they are so bloody cold. Going to have to go talk to my dealer and find out what deals I can work when I'm finally ready. Thanks guys!
Good luck!
What’s going on UA-cam
Btw love your UA-cam channel
Thanks!
@@CarConfections thanks for support I like the Mazda cz5
Nice videos Guys :)
Well hopefully they will fix more with the new model for 2022.
Mazda Zoom ZoomZoomZomm 🤩🤩🤩🤩💓💓💓💓💓
Thank God they fixed the tech
You did not comment on the breaks. I thought that was the weakest tech that needed fixing.
FINALLY a bigger screen
I have the Grand Touring and it has the heated steering wheel and heated seats
May be redundant, but would love a quick review of the sport trim. Do you know of any long-term problems with the cylinder deactivation system?
I haven't personally heard of any issues from cylinder deactivation
Why doesn't the UK CX 5 Sport have a turbocharger like the ones in the USA?
Great review guys !! :)
Thanks, Ryan! Have a great week!
I have had my Mazda CX-5 since 2016 and I have never touched the screen. I love the BWM like control button to control the screen. You never have to reach for the screen . It’s much saver when you drive and I can’t imagine driving a car without this option ever again.
