- The speech of Geelong captain Tom Harley after Geelongs loss in the 2008 grand final. This speech is not on the 2008 GF DVD so I put it up on youtube so people could see it, if they were interested.
Watch a replay of the game, why didn't Geelong win the game, they had more inside 50's than us but the majority of times they got it in there it was Hodge who prevented a goal being scored.

Yep, but I cannot stress enough that a lost Grand Final is an opportunity lost forever.

Remember Isaac Smith? Didn't he used to play for you guys? Didn't he lose a final for you guys against Geelong because he missed a goal after the siren? Didn't he eventually leave Hawthorn to join Geelong? Didn't he become a premiership player for Geelong, and become the oldest ever player to win the Norm Smith Medal in the process? Haven't Geelong enjoyed many more years near the top of the ladder than Hawthorn prior to the 2022 premiership? I know which club that I'd rather be supporting, and it ain't Hawthorn.
Killing us this year is irrelevant.
We could beat you in the next 100 Grand FInals and it will never make up for 2008, just like 2009 is a write off for you, and we won the premiership.
2010 is a new year and I reckon that St Kilda and Hawthorn will be the teams to beat.
Geelong will go down in the prelims. Hawthorn had a crap year and St Kilda will be stung by the GF.
Any smart supporter of any club realises that once a new season comes, the premiership of the previous year is history.

Yeah, Ablett played better but Hodge stopped the Cats from winning the game. Hopefully today we will win today.

After 13 years, still no-one has liked your comment. The only loser around here appears to be you. The Cats payed the Hawks back for this defeat without even having to defeat them in a Grand Final. Everything that Isaac Smith has ever done for us more than makes up for this. Firstly, when he was playing for Hawthorn he missed a goal after the siren to hand us victory in the 2016 Qualifying Final. Deja vu occurred in Round 17 the following season when he again missed a shot for goal seconds before the siren that would have won the match for Hawthorn. Then he left Hawthorn to join Geelong prior to the beginning of the 2021 season. He is now a premiership player at Geelong, and in the process he has become the oldest ever player to win the Norm Smith Medal.
Nah, I'm a Geelong supporter (and not one of those silly bandwagon ones), and Hodge killed us on the half back line. He stopped over half a dozen entries into the forward fifty and causing rebounds.
Gary had a high possession game and was clearly Geelong's best (and for mine, second best on the day), but so many of those possessions were ineffecitve due to our shit forward line, namely Johnson and Stokes, two players who want cheap kicks and didn't work hard on the day...or at all at that.
disgrase that luke hodge got the norm smith, i mean he played a great game, but surely, SURELY you have to give the norm smith to gary ablett, played great all game and just because they lost that wouldve been the reason why he wasnt awarded with it.
