    I like how the golf swing is related to the baseball swing. I think you should put a little discussion in how the spine bends and tilts throughout the swing too for us who want a little more detail of the body movement,

    It appears that Milo's right hand goes from Extension to Straight in the "hitting area" (from 3:19 to 3:26). This seems to be very important, in that the right wrist by this movement is adding acceleration to the acceleration that is already being added by the straightening of the right elbow in this same "hitting area".
    This adds to the acceleration of the wrist that is already being accelerated by the motion of the right forearm. This is a very, very helpful video. This forearm-wrist-shaft movement is much like the successive portions of a whip in a whip's action. It also seems that like a whip this hand movement at the wrist does not have to be actively done, but simply by allowing a release of the wrist bend as the torso slows and the right arm is extended at the elbow. One other point, the pressure on the shaft from the rotation of the torso and the extension of right arm and the straightening of the right hand at its wrist, occurs at the lifeline of the palm of the right hand as it exerts pressure on the left left thumb which is on the back of the shaft.

      In reality the unwinding of the wrist angles is involuntary and is happening due to physics I’m just allowing it to happen and what you’re observing is what that looks like. In reality I the club is accelerating faster than I can keep up at this point

    Someday, I would like to see a video about some ideas to maintain effortless power under pressure.
    When I get to a very tough hole or in competition, it’s too easy to revert back to old habits, and snatch the club rapidly down from the top with the arms.
    I think most everyone would be interested in your thoughts about maintaining tempo and sequencing on the course.

      I've had few times of pressure in a local tournament that on the par 5s. I found the best way to deal with it is to layup and also not go full bore. If your normally comfortable swinging at 85% back your efforts down to 70%. You'll still get most of your distance and taking the pressure off trying to hit green in two is lifted.

    Is a drill needed to increase the speed of the shoulder rotation possibly or is the clubhead speed derived from the release, the action of the straightening out of the right hand?

      bloatedman more often than not drills are needed to slow down/take tension out of the arms so the swing sequence works properly.

    I think the hardest thing to do is practice using less than a full swing because you don't have the same forces working with a half swing, etc. How do you find that balance between freedom of the arms and control of the arms so that the clubhead ends up square??

    Milo, thanks for the Christmas day video! You nailed it. Loved your elite baseball swing footage. Cool to see the baseball player's right elbow still bent at impact. Homer Kelly said over-acceleration of the arms is the menace that plagues all golfers. As you said, you don't want the handle racing way ahead of the ball. And, as you said, under-acceleration is just as bad...with the left arm stalling and the wrists flipping into impact. I'll watch this video multiple times!

      Personally, I agree with your summary of Tutelman and the positive torques described during the initial downswing and negative torques described just before impact. However, I do need to study Tutelman's website to learn more about this. As Jeff Mann has suggested we also need a comprehensive grip pressure study to better understand right hand grip pressures across the entire downswing. We also need data on how much the right hand is used to stabilize the power package through the impact zone. In this video Milo especially emphasized proper body rotation, and the importance of keeping the right elbow slightly bent through the immediate impact zone, which we know is essential. Perhaps in a subsequent video he can discuss more about the exact role of the right hand. I try to stay pretty open minded and capture the essence of what Milo is teaching. He has such an excellent, PGA quality swing, that I really like to get his inherent impressions of what he feels during his swing. He also loves to teach, so this provides a wonderful perspective, as both an elite swinger and experienced teacher. Thanks for your great question and your summary of Tutelman!

      P SMITH you are correct in reality due to the arc of the hands up and left the angular momentum is released. The hands can’t keep up with the head of the club completely which is why we see the club shaft respond as you described but we don’t have to get that scientific to learn to play well. It is easy to determine if you are over or under accelerating the left arm due to the speed of the right arm. If you listen to the key point I make at the end of the video you’ll note that low tension is key to let the club do what physics tells it to.

      Milo, just a bit more on this topic. Notice how your club shaft begins to bow slightly forward just before impact in your slow motion swing. This is a sign that your club head is beginning to move faster than the handle, because you are not applying any positive force to the handle at this time. In other words, your right hand must not be applying a positive torque to the handle to speed it up just before impact. And, since the handle is slowing down, I believe Tutelman calls this a negative torque action. On the other hand, the club shaft bends backwards during the first part of the downswing (which I'm sure yours does!) and this is when the handle is moving faster than the club head. Here, the golfer is applying a positive torque to the handle which causes it to move faster and this bends the club shaft backwards. As you have stated, this is due to the turning of the hips and chest, which then causes the left arm to accelerate, which then causes the left hand to apply an acceleration force to the handle, with the right hand simply providing a stabilization force. So, in instructional lingo, we would say to power the swing with correct body rotation and keep the arms and hands relaxed through the entire downswing and through the impact zone. Does this make sense?

      Jim George You are definitely making good sense. What I see happening is that due to the path of the Hands going in a circular motion up and to the left the angles are automatically released when this begins to happen the hands are no longer able to keep up with the clubHead. That is why we see the shaft bending the way it does. The hands are not purposefully applying a negative torque by manually slowing down And they also are not artificially over accelerated.

    Milo, I've learned that the left shoulder at the start-down needs to move more downward so the shoulders can turn more effectively. This probably falls in line with your instruction in your lesson with the Doc that the shoulders should simply turn perpendicular to the spine. Also, I assume when you say the shoulders should turn up and back later in the downswing, that this is still complying with this same concept that the shoulders should continue to turn perpendicular to the spine. Is this a correct interpretation? Also, do you have any drills to help golfers turn the shoulders perpendicular to the spine during the downswing?

      Jim George there’s two reasons For the left shoulder to move down and around number one is that you turn past 90° there for the shoulder moves down Before it moves up and back. The second reason is the transition, if you noticed in my transition video there Is a lowering due to the reflexing of the knees and the deepening of the pelvis in transition this also causes the left shoulder to go down before it goes up and back. My whole goal is to get the students torso spinning perpendicular to the spine. I use a couple of drills to accomplish this one that you may have seen in my videos is where the student is not permitted to bend either arm as they turn back and through around a steady center.

    Milo, As an older guy I can turn 90 with shoulders and 45 with my hips with moving my lower body first, however most of my hits are toe side resulting in straight to pull shots but lacks distance. What can I do to hit in middle of face?

      Pat Carlton make sure that your shaft is not steep. Most players that struggle with toe strikes are too steep in transition. If you want an answer specific to you, You can set up an online lesson and we’ll figure it out together.

      During this shutdown, my only option is hitting into a net at my house so I've been focusing on the basics - grip, setup, making good contact. My miss is typically towards the toe. Too steep makes sense.

    Low and inside is the golf swing. Thus the saying, he golfed that one. I've played and coached for a long time and I told you on a more recent video I have no more thoughts except than to hit the golf ball like I'm hitting a baseball off a tee and everything else in the swing just happens. I'm hitting balls more consistently than ever.

    my problem is I lose my spine angle, standing up at impact, and this causes me to extend my right arm to reach the ball. My misses are thin shots.

      because you're trying to hit the ball with your arms and hands instead of swinging your arms with the body rotation. the ball is 3 ft. from your hands, your brain cant calculate the precise spot where your hands need to be in the air in order to hit the ball like in ping pong or tennis(handle dragging), so you have to take a different mental approach to hitting a golf ball. your arms should feel like two ropes and you're trying to orient your momentum toward your target, if that makes any sense.

    I've played for over 60 years and I don't understand how you can ever square the club without some forearm rotation. The club face will never square just by turning the body.

      Not true sir. If your wrists and arms work properly forearm rotation isn’t actively done. There may be some amount of passive supination but it’s definitely not actively created

      @@MiloLinesGolf I must retract my earlier statement... I've been having tons of trouble with solid contact and distance, trying to rotate my forearms. I realized I was not extending my arms, and my wrists were not uncocking. The club and arms has to get to an almost a straight line to release the angle and release the power. I'm hitting the ball nice and solid now and the club squares up nicely.. Thank you!

    Hi Milo The shoulder girdle is mainly made up of the true shoulder joint (glenohumeral joint) and the joint between the shoulder blade and the chest (scapulothoracic joint). When we move our arm around, movement occurs at both of these joints, with most (two thirds) occurring at the shoulder joint.Apr 29, 2010
    Anatomy of the shoulder (glenohumeral joint/scapulo ... - ...Golf instructors really need to stop separating the arms from the shoulders it teaching golf. The two parts of the body are inseparable and always work together. Also the shoulder on either side of our body has a range of motion of 20 degrees. Your right the shifting of weight uncoils our body; level us off; so we can swing the club with our arms

    Where I agree that the general mechanics of the swings are similar they are very different. If you want an equal comparison, you could create a clubhead at the end of the bat so that the only way you can hit the ball square is to hit it perfectly square with the clubhead at the end of the bat. Sorry baseball, there is no comparison, golf is a lot harder.

      @@liquidmocofilmsllc4915 it is easier to become descent at golf. I can teach anyone to be fairly proficient because the ball just sits there waiting for you to hit it and all you have to do is get the face square and path going around you. A baseball on the other hand is moving and changing speeds and locations and you’re trying to hit it with a round bat which requires more hand eye coordination and is nearly impossible for most humans. I’d say becoming really good at both sports is equally difficulty.

      @@MiloLinesGolf I disagree with your hand eye coordination opinon. The ball is coming in a straight path (altered if you throw in the different pitches) but for the most part the ball is just as "still" as in golf. The difference is the velocity the baseball is coming at you which only helps to ricochet off the baseball bat meaning the faster the ballspeed the farther the hit. Hitting the golf ball while idol at a specific target is definitely harder that hitting a baseball where you have 90 degrees of error to still be considered in play. Try hitting/aiming your golf strikes using 90 degrees of field and see how well that helps your score (handicap).

    If you watch the baseball clip closely, you’d see his elbow and hands move before his chest, thus unlikely his chest is the cause his arms to swing as mentioned.

      What you see is his rib cage bending from left bend to right bend caused by a myriad of factors namely pelvic rotation. I have studied the 3d movements of athletes across sports and the movements originate from the middle out.
