I live in Tennessee and have lived here all my life but I have never heard or seen flooding like this in that location it’s just scary.
In the early 1900s the federal government and private companies invested heavily in a dam network that allowed us to build here and extract minerals. I don't know the percentage but if these dams fail a massive amount of East Tennessee goes under water.

As of 10am the Greenville dam has not failed, but is overflowing.

@@jimsecrist4222Overflowing the dam is better than a breached dam, because it means only the excess is being released.
Most large damns have some sort of spillway intended to compensate for typical weather situations. This is not normal in any way.

It was unfortunate that we had a nontropical weather front cause 2-3 days of rain before Helene arrived. There is just nowhere for the water to go 😢 I am fortunate to be between Knoxville and Chattanooga where we had a lot of rain some wind but no significant damage.
I am in Greeneville on the Tusculm side. Lucky to be on high ground. Going to a fund raiser tonight to help a bit.
Monroe county here. Came through without a scratch. Prepped quit a bit and everything done paid off ten fold.

That dam did not fail, it is still there, just under water but still intact. Why are people over playing this? That is not a failure of the dam.

Monroe County is a great location. Close to Knoxville and Chattanooga and close to the mountains and a dozen lakes. Land is reasonable and the taxes aren't crazy.
