Me too. One of the guys who taught Will Riker everything he knows. Since DeSoto knows Picard too, I'm sure that both crews would have a grand old time swapping stories.

He's right, the Enterprise D was just a heavily armed cruise ship. That's why I liked the Sovereign class so much more. My favorite was the Defiant class...adrift, but salvageable...tough little ship. Worf: LITTLE?!?!😆 Oh, I almost forgot...back then Galaxy class were the fastest, but later the Voyager and Prometheous could sustain warp 9.95.

Everyone complaining about Troi's firm grasp of the obvious. First, blame the writers. Second, Marina Sirtis admitted she was first to be the empath but quickly became just eye candy. So enjoy it
Honestly, she played a pretty important purpose in explaining things to the less intuitive. She made the show more accessible to those who otherwise might not have gotten it. Which isn't to say she couldn't have been better, but I don't think her presence took away from the show at all.

Well there's no HIPAA rules for Starfleet (as far as we know), and it doesn't mean what most people think anyway, but Troi would certainly have professional standards of patient privacy. Might be VERY appropriate, and required, in a private briefing with a few staff. But there are others on the Bridge, junior grade ensigns and one show specialists, etc.
This is a sensitive and risky mission, and Picard needs to know what he's dealing with. Elbron's state of mind is an important factor to consider. Doctor-patient confidentiality can be breached when lives are at stake.

The intrepid-class unquestionably took its speed record, but mid-life refits kept the Galaxy-class on par with Akiras for firepower. It wasn't until the Prometheus and Sovereign-class that they had a ship that outmatched the Galaxy-class in every way.
Imagine: They imply Starfleet ships are not regularly communicating over secure channels. I guess the fees are too high for those to use them all the time. 😏

Very similar in style but more updated, larger and was heavily preferred as a balance of toughness, weaponry and mobility but lacking in support, engineering or scientific capabilities.

I hate the music stab and aghast looks at the end of this clip. My gods! Someone needed mental health counseling services? They must be a serial killer, or worse! I get that Tam does have lots of baggage -- the disaster they refer to here, the inability to adapt to others' voices -- but none of that is spelled out yet. So, this is just reacting to someone needing counseling. It's extremely offensive.
