Romans wom both campaigns against dacians..101 -102 and 105-106. Decebal was a great strategist, he loved his people and his country, but the Roman empire had too many resources and kept coming against Decebal till he was overwhelmed. The hardest to be conquered were the Dacians, engraved on the Columna from Rome. Thanks for the great work. I love the video and narrative.

Yes it is entertaining, but not much history.
Every fool goes to Wikipedia and makes movies according to the much unreliable information there.
Domitian didn't return to Rome he went with half of Roman army to punish the Sarmatinas. He was defeated as well.
Decebalus was not king of Dacians at the battle of Tapae. His name was Doriplene and he was a Pileat (Noble) who organised the defense, and only after the defeat of the Romans he become king, and named Decebalus. (Ball [god] of Dacians).
There are a lot of wrong things with this video.

Hi great video again! & history about famous battles is awesome 👍
The Dacian falx was a formidable weapon & the Romans adopted armour especially the helmets to combat this, they added crucifix to the top of the helmet (two metal strips that formed a cross) to stop the falx from puncturing the top of the helmet with hook blade end of the weapon, I think it's correct but could be wrong though? The fact that Dacian weapons cut through Roman Armour may well have had a lot to do with it, Trajan's Army used special reinforced armour against the Dacians especially reinforced Helmets Dormitions troops found out the Hardaway that their armour was not up to scratch and roman tactics relied on Heavy armoured troops. Location error: Tapae was the name of a settlement or fortified region in Dacia. It was part of the fortification system at Sarmizegetusa, which was the political centre of the Dacian state. It was located in the area known as the Iron Gate of Transylvania, a natural pass between the Tarc Mountains and the Poiana Rusca Mountains, which linked Banat and the Hațeg Country. Thus, the area was one of the few options an invading army could have chosen to enter Transylvania and then the fortress of Sarmizegetusa.(Wikipedia)

We are not talking here at all about the ratio of forces, which was at least 3-4 to 1 in favor of the Roman army.
Decebalus was an exceptional strategist, a fact recognized by all historians.
Rome attacked Dacia because Dacia was an ELDORADO of Europe at that time and until today is the same regarding the gold. And Rome was bankrupt and had to steal that gold from somewhere to restore its finances.
Dacia was only conquered by 25-30% in the area where gold was found. In the rest, the Dacians remained a free people on the rest of the Dacian territory.
All these corrections must be made and known for the perfection of this film.
In a few years, the Dacian Wars with Rome would be so intense and brought to the limit of survival that Decebal's strategy could definitively bring Rome to its knees a few hundred years before the end of Western Rome. Thus the battle of Adamclisi, Dobrogea or Moesia inferior, is recorded in history as the Stalingrad of antiquity. If Rome lost it, Trajan and Rome would also end there, in the full glory of Trajan's Rome. A mild winter prevented the Danube from freezing, as it used to happen at that time, and Trajan was able to transport his troops to Dobrogea and save at the border an invasion by the Dacian allies, the Scythians, behind the lines of supply of the Romanian army. Such a cut of the supply lines of the Roman army invading southwestern Dacia would have meant the destruction of the army of the Roman Empire and the fall of Rome.
Roman historians tried as much as they could to minimize this disaster, which did not happen only because of a year in which the Danube did not freeze!

The following year, with even more legions, led by the general Tettius Iulianus, the Romans were victorious, but the peace treaty was favorable to the Dacians. This peace was considered shameful by the Romans, and the main culprit was considered the emperor Domitian. The next Emperor Trajan did not like that, The Empire was in critical financial state... So as usual this was a motiv for war ... @AdituLaudisMMXXI, You have misplaced the location of the Battle of Tapae. The place, called Tapae by the Dacians, today is called the Iron Gate of Transylvania and is a pass between Banat and Transylvania, on the Bistra river valley, between the Poiana Ruscă Mountains and the Țarcului mountains. There were three battles, one in the year 87, won by the Dacians, the second was in the year 88, won by the Romans. But Decebalus was also a good diplomat and won the peace by receiving money from the Romans to destroy his fortresses, which he did not do and with the money he received he built others and strengthened the existing ones. The third battle of Tapae was in 101, when Decebalus lost the war, not only the battle.

The question at the 4 minutes mark is rather foolish , the dacians were barbarians from the roman point of view aka , non romans, just like the greeks and egyptians were also barbarians. But the talking voice of this video talks about dacians using barbarian in a modern understanding of the word, that is uncivilized barbarians , like the germanic tribes. The fact is the dacians lived in a multi century centralized state , with a clear aocial structure with royal dinasties and all the perks of a centralized state, and had diplomatic relations with the parthian empire and also played a role in the 2 roman civil wars allying themselves with Pompei and Anthony. At one point they even had diplomatic relations with the chinese empire. So Dacia was hardly a motley mix of barbarian warchiefs like the chati and the cherusky.

The battle of Tape of 101 was the second battle fought there during the two Dacian wars after that of the year 88 and, like the first, it ended with the victory of the Roman army of the Emperor Trajan over the Dacian troops of Decebalus
    date - from 101
-Tapae location in Dacia (at present-day Otelu Rost)
    Outcome - Roman Victory
    Deployments
    Roman Empire - Dacia
    Commanders Traiano -Decebalo
    Effective -less than 200.000 armed
7/80 thousand between Legionaries and Romans - hardly Iazigi

    • @cllaudiusd521
      @cllaudiusd521 Рік тому +4

Wrong. There were 2 battles at Tapae: the first in 87 - Dacian victory (Roman general Cornelius Fuscus); the second in 88: Roman victory and peace agreement by which ... the Roman Empire paid Dacia a tribute in money and war machines !!! (Roman general Tetius Julianus).
Then after Tapae followed the wars of 101-102 and 105-106 during the time of Emperor Trajan , resulting in the conquest of Dacia.
After the peace of 89 (Tapae) Decebalus became a client king of Rome, receiving money, craftsmen and war machines to defend the empire's borders. Some historians believe that this peace unfavorable to the Romans caused the assassination of Domitian in September 96.
Decebalus, instead of using the money as the Romans wanted, decided to start the construction of new fortresses in the mountains, at important strategic points, and to strengthen the already existing ones. This was one of the reasons for the Roman attack in 101, under the emperor Trajan.
