We cannot say that the Dacian kingdom was located in the mountains(It also included plains and hills, and they had access to the left bank of the Danube), but that a large part of their defensive base was in certain areas of these mountains.
Yes, they have a complex of fortifications in the Orastiei Mountains: Sarmizegetusa Regia (the Capital), Piatra Roșie, Costești - Blidaru, Costești - Cetățuie, Căpâlna, and Bănița. However, they have fortifications also in other areas, such as Tilișca.
The destruction of the Dacian kingdom opened the gate for barbarian invasions from Asia... which eventually led to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. A great general... but a weak strategist who failed to foresee the consequences of such an act.
Justicia divina😉
The following year, with even more legions, led by the general Tettius Iulianus, the Romans were victorious, but the peace treaty was favorable to the Dacians. This peace was considered shameful by the Romans, and the main culprit was considered the emperor Domitian. Only after more than ten years, a new emperor Trajan would wash away this shame, but it took him two wars with the Dacians to subjugate them.
Actually the campaign of Tettius Iulianus ended in a stalemate rather then a victory: the Romans were not able to pass, but they were able to withdraw and regroup in an orderly manner. That is why Domitianus has signed peace in favourable terms for the Dacians. The Romans were only victorious in the campaign led by Traianus.
In that year87 ad was the first battle at Tapae... during Emperor Domitianus... so, we may say there were not 2 but 3 dacian wars... Dacia had Diurpaneus - Decebal as King ... One war was won by Dacians who became a client state for Rome... With very large autonomy... Keeping all its wealth intact... The next Emperor Trajan did not like that, The Empire was in critical financial state... So as usual this was a motiv for war ... After defeated Dacia and suicide of King Diurpaneus - Decebal, Trajan plundered huge amount of gold and silver ( cca. 100 tones gold and 300 tones silver) ... Celebrated in Rome for 90 days!!!!
@AdituLaudisMMXXI, You have misplaced the location of the Battle of Tapae. The place, called Tapae by the Dacians, today is called the Iron Gate of Transylvania and is a pass between Banat and Transylvania, on the Bistra river valley, between the Poiana Ruscă Mountains and the Țarcului mountains. There were three battles, one in the year 87, won by the Dacians, the second was in the year 88, won by the Romans. But Decebalus was also a good diplomat and won the peace by receiving money from the Romans to destroy his fortresses, which he did not do and with the money he received he built others and strengthened the existing ones. The third battle of Tapae was in 101, when Decebalus lost the war, not only the battle.
We cannot really "examine the locations", because it is not precisely known, but we can suppose that it was chosen by the Dacians to reduce the advantages of the Romans legions.
Hello, my friend, is it allowed to put a part of your video in my video, because I am making a historical video about Attila's biography, can I put a part of it in my video?
I find it really funny that this presenter says records for what actually happened is very slim then goes on to describe in detail what took place, very humorous.
Have honestly never heard of this battle and it's outcome. We've all heard of Rome's most infamous defeats or costly near defeats, but not this one. The aforementioned factors certainly have plenty to do with that.
The romans feared the crooked skull of Baldaraccus. He was a hermit that lived on the skirts of Germania. He was known for plucking eyeballs from sleeping legionaires and eating them in front of them
The question at the 4 minutes mark is rather foolish , the dacians were barbarians from the roman point of view aka , non romans, just like the greeks and egyptians were also barbarians. But the talking voice of this video talks about dacians using barbarian in a modern understanding of the word, that is uncivilized barbarians , like the germanic tribes. The fact is the dacians lived in a multi century centralized state , with a clear aocial structure with royal dinasties and all the perks of a centralized state, and had diplomatic relations with the parthian empire and also played a role in the 2 roman civil wars allying themselves with Pompei and Anthony. At one point they even had diplomatic relations with the chinese empire. So Dacia was hardly a motley mix of barbarian warchiefs like the chati and the cherusky.
Makes ones heart swell at the idea that even tho they were mostly farmers and sheep hearders , the barefoot hoard was able to overthrow the most militaristic regime ever to walk the earth, and all in the moral virtue of being free men , gotta love the misunderstood underdog.
The battle of Tape of 101 was the second battle fought there during the two Dacian wars after that of the year 88 and, like the first, it ended with the victory of the Roman army of the Emperor Trajan over the Dacian troops of Decebalus date - from 101 -Tapae location in Dacia (at present-day Otelu Rost) Outcome - Roman Victory Deployments Roman Empire - Dacia Commanders Traiano -Decebalo Effective -less than 200.000 armed 7/80 thousand between Legionaries and Romans - hardly Iazigi
Wrong. There were 2 battles at Tapae: the first in 87 - Dacian victory (Roman general Cornelius Fuscus); the second in 88: Roman victory and peace agreement by which ... the Roman Empire paid Dacia a tribute in money and war machines !!! (Roman general Tetius Julianus). Then after Tapae followed the wars of 101-102 and 105-106 during the time of Emperor Trajan , resulting in the conquest of Dacia. After the peace of 89 (Tapae) Decebalus became a client king of Rome, receiving money, craftsmen and war machines to defend the empire's borders. Some historians believe that this peace unfavorable to the Romans caused the assassination of Domitian in September 96. Decebalus, instead of using the money as the Romans wanted, decided to start the construction of new fortresses in the mountains, at important strategic points, and to strengthen the already existing ones. This was one of the reasons for the Roman attack in 101, under the emperor Trajan.

So nothing at all about the Roman monument in Romania that commemorates this, that shows exactly what the combatants looked like (nothing at all like these silly computer game characters) and that actually names the fallen...

@@gamelot12093 Huge numbers!? Better think again... The bulk of dacians stood there... On country sides... Taking care of agriculture & sheep& bees ... We romanians are here before many other migrator tribes...for instance slaves& magyars& bulgars...

@@GEOPOLITICALANALYSIS There was a Greece back then, and no, they had absolutely nothing to do with Dacians. The Proto-Romans ruled the world, and white race never spoke let alone wrote about a Greek. This nonsense has to stop slowly, Greeks are not Europeans.

Enjoyed very good
Amazing video🔥
Glad you liked it
So...1) RONG map of the DACIA
2) DECEBAL was not killed (as you suggest) but committed suicide
Interesting, though that would only come hundreds of years later. I doubt present-day leaders see farther than 5-10 years in their vision
Justicia divina😉
Very well made.

@@DukeOfTheYard Yes, maybe a tactical victory, but strategic stalemate from the military point of view.
Traducere în romana
Once again it shows the difficulty that the Roman army had when fighting in confined areas.
Éternal glory to my victorious ancestors! 😊What à Hammer Who crushed Rome Légions 😊

Why wouldn't you send scouts or skirmishers out to surrounding areas, into woods and over hills, to check for said traps?
It was bloody time someone did a new video about me!
Haha
We cannot really "examine the locations", because it is not precisely known, but we can suppose that it was chosen by the Dacians to reduce the advantages of the Romans legions.
Which mods did you use?
Divide et Impera mainly
@@AdituLaudisMMXXI thanks
Thanks for the marvellous video & presentation but, can we have a Romanian translation of the narratives? ( not all romanians understand English 🤗) ❤
Hello, my friend, is it allowed to put a part of your video in my video, because I am making a historical video about Attila's biography, can I put a part of it in my video?
sure, depends how long of the video you use. Write me on my business email
I find it really funny that this presenter says records for what actually happened is very slim then goes on to describe in detail what took place, very humorous.
Some of it is battlefield imagination.
I'd like to see the batles of the destruction of the 1st and 2nd temple of Jerusalem or the naval batle of Diu.
Notice the Hellenic name of the Dacian king. They were long descendants of northern Greeks but mostly Hellenic Thracian.
Have honestly never heard of this battle and it's outcome. We've all heard of Rome's most infamous defeats or costly near defeats, but not this one. The aforementioned factors certainly have plenty to do with that.
I think this goes into realms of scenarios vaguely simillar to how that native indian girl from that recent predator film used its guidance system.
até neste canal a defesa do império romano é algo deplorável.
Well I'm just glad no one got hurt.

The romans feared the crooked skull of Baldaraccus. He was a hermit that lived on the skirts of Germania. He was known for plucking eyeballs from sleeping legionaires and eating them in front of them
The dacian sword: The Falx is a very important tactic advantage. Silence in the video...
Lack of scouting, reconnaissance or basic field craft seems to have been the problem
No, îs an error. The Iron Gate îs a pass through the Carpathians Mountains, not the Danube gorge.
There's multiple battles
Hubieron otras Batallas de Tapae. Roma. Nunca se dava por vencida. Ellos volvian. Unos años despues y lo volvieron a intentar.
That’s true
*GREAT + BRAVE DACIANS !!!!!!!!!!!*
Unfortunately this description speaks in generalities and gives no details on the strategic turn of battle. Try again.
There is nothing at all that survives to give any even suferficially detailed account.
They killed all the geese. Down to the last gosling. No more willl they fly and go "quack quack"
Good video, not a fan of some of the overly dramatic commentary "their determination fueled every strike!" type stuff but that's subjective.
Thanks for the feedback

Mr Aditu Laudis member me? With the Legionary Phalanx faction.
Yes, welcome back
The battle of Tape of 101 was the second battle fought there during the two Dacian wars after that of the year 88 and, like the first, it ended with the victory of the Roman army of the Emperor Trajan over the Dacian troops of Decebalus
date - from 101
-Tapae location in Dacia (at present-day Otelu Rost)
Outcome - Roman Victory
Deployments
Roman Empire - Dacia
Commanders Traiano -Decebalo
Effective -less than 200.000 armed
7/80 thousand between Legionaries and Romans - hardly Iazigi

This is not my version but it is that of Wikipedia and roughly that of the Treccani Encyclopedia, the Britannica one disagrees on some parts of both, but substantially it is not very dissimilar. The Italian historian Roberto Trizio gives yet another one, but substantially they are not very different from each other. Anyway thanks for the comment very well done , as always balanced and fair as it is in the British style ! Good evening !
romans ocuppied only third part of dacian teritory ,so they subjugated population from that part of dacian kingdom ,not all of them
@ver_idem wrong again , romans stationed in Dacia one fully roman legion to defend that small province against free dacians , two major tribes especcialy costobocs and carps
" Barberian" is a greek ancien word which describe all other populations except the greeks themselves... So, it does not mean these so called "barberians" are not civilised anyway... they are, but in a different way...Today we may call " unity in diversity" ...

And you're not well informed either then. Try googling Cornelius Fuscus and you'll find out how romans won that battle of Tapae

@Aditu Laudis you really need to learn more and read more .There was no destruction of Dacia, subjugation yes but destruction no .
and oddly the name of the country Romania means to be "Roman like"....
