It is absolutely insane to me that Caecina managed to pull off that repulsion of force at the end! Every single possible thing was stacked against him even his own men albeit briefly. Absolutely wild! Phenomenal video!
What i dont get is, if romans are able to repair the bridges, in a day, and withdraw safely back to friendly lands, then why was armenius preferring to wait them out and "let them starve"? This wouldve worked if the romans did not have a way out, but they obviously did. The very next day nevertheless.
@@Jean-vr7vj Probably because before the Germans charged and lost their strategic advantage, Arminius could envelop or send out skirmishing forces to harass any attempts from the Romans to rebuild the bridge, effectively turning repairing the bridge in a day or so, into a couple of days. That would be my guess anyway. Not so much fun rebuilding a bridge under the constant threat of ambush or missiles. Hope this helps. :)

@@maxschreck4095Well the physical empire is gone. Both West and East when it did split, but the image, history, and legacy of Rome endures. As long as someone knows the meaning and name of Rome, it will endure.🙂
Everything about Rome was magnificent, even how they were in defeat and how they'd go down fighting till 1453. This is one of the finest examples. No nation managed to be this adaptable and resilient. 1000s of empires, both real and fantasy, that were inspired by Rome owe their respects to this marvel of humanity. If humanity were to be wiped out tomorrow, I'd pray for only one thing - the legacy of Rome to be preserved for other species to witness and admire.
The Romans were cruel in a cruel era. The millions of slaves polarised wealth, the ordinary people lost their farmland to the wealthy who were corrupted by riches. In the age of emperors, ancient civic virtues of stoicism were forgotten and values were undermined. As the sybil predicted, this was the Punic Curse.
