There’s always someone that will criticize. What I’ve seen so far ,you are a awesome mechanic. You have your ways others have theirs. There are things I would do differently than you. That doesn’t mean your way or mine is wrong. Sometimes it’s what works for you. But remember, every comment, even negative one helps the channel . Keep up the good work . Really enjoy these videos. Also of course my mom had a 71 Ltd because You need a boat with three kids to haul around Your little helper is doing a great job. Looking forward to see it on the road.
I’ve literally watched thousands of car fixin videos on UA-cam. Everyone does things differently. Thankfully! Just continue to do things your way and screw the critics. A wise man once told me: “It’s not about the mistakes you make, it’s how well you fix em! Or at least cover them up!”
Great job with all your episodes. I like how you're laid-back, don't over-explain and how your subtle humor comes through. Lots of great encouragement from others in comments! So for future episodes hold your ground for doing the process that works for you. If you anticipate flack, try "for those of you who are new around here... detailing will come at the very end of restoration, once I know xxx. Not everyone will agree but that's how I roll.") You may need to repeat it periodically. I like to see you doing what you love rather than you stressing to appease a few. 😊 Looking fwd to the next episode!!
I'm pretty sure this kid is going to be everyone's friend on the weekend cruises. Another fantastic video. You are killing it. Just keep doing things the way you do them.
I had one of those white with black vinyl top 400M ignition box went out. I was leaving for a few years, so I gave it away. Central California watching
Heck yeah Garth air shocks. Now all the kid needs is a vintage small camper and he can go have fun! Maybe with a boat attached to the top of the roof lol.
Those cars are fantastic! I drove one of those in 1972 for my driver's ed class. My buddy I rode to school with had a '66 Galaxie. Also a very smooth riding car. Great job on the '71, and fixing this for a great cause.
Really great to be getting the young guy his first ride! Especially this cool ol girl! I must say I was a little disappointed when I saw you put a two barrel carb back onto it but that's your choice and if the kid wants to change it later it'll be his call. You're going far and beyond with doing all of this for him and it's super and duper! LOL!
Great job Garth. Love the content. You do you and don’t listen to the negative. In the end you’re doing a great thing for a young man who hopefully will get into old cars because of it. We need the younger generation to pick up hobby to keep hot rodding alive. We can see you are passing it on with your girls. You are a great father!!
I think that's great for a kid to have a first car like that a classic I'm like 50 years old they wouldn't really classics when I was growing up there was just everyday
Drum brakes, my take is, they are like a, “Rube Goldberg” set up, if I have ever saw one, one spring to counter another spring and another to counter that one, levers, it’s crazy how it all works together.
Like you, I don’t worry too much about cleaning them up although before doing much under the hood or anywhere, I would have probably blown the leaves out other than that you’re bad spot on with how I do things do
You need to ask the "experts " if their mechanics detail the customer's car before they work on them. The people that make the comments probably have mechanics, cuz they don't turn wrenches themselves. Keep doing what your doing. You get the job done rights.
Hey Garth, I totally agree with you on the detailing that’s how I do it! I still take pictures of drum brakes to this day, even after 30 years of wrenching. Back in the day we would just leave one side together so we could go and look at it if we didn’t remember how to put it back together, lol great video!
Hi Garth little tip on changing gasket if you cut out bottom of bottom holes of gasket on all the studs you can just move manifold back and slip the gasket down between manifold and block then tighten bolts up.
You know. I really like eating ya doing, it's gritty, real..like you make mistakes, you learn and make good thats life. As long as you learn and remember and pass it on to others. Keep it going, don't be down hearted by awkward comments. Ya cool dude.😊
Thought my 92 RamCharger the as dead I figured out the crank sensor went bad now it’s making noise again! Love the ole square body steel it’s enjoyable keeping it on the road!
Some people u just keep doing what u doing when u want to,do it😋. Up here in the rust belt when them drums don't,want to,come, off we use a little heat and they will, come off. U have a good one
I guess my thoughts on the cleaning is, I like to hit the car with my pressure washer to get leaves and dirt off so I don’t have it falling in/on me and everything else when I’m working
The right applications of the right rust inhibitors should allow cars to sit like the Navy mothball fleets and outdoor museum displays. My favorites are Carnauba spray wax, almost everywhere, and high temperature silicone to protect those brake springs and exhaust. And perhaps either silicone brake fluid or plenty of brake assembly lube, or maybe they'll invent a brake fluid that can sit longer.
Hey man, my buddy and I work on old vehicles as well. I don’t know how you put this on camera but you are definitely doing a good job. I drive an 81 Scottsdale and my buddy drives an 85 Silverado. I hope you don’t pay too much mind to the guys sitting in their moms basement critiquing everything you do. One look around your garage and the yard clearly shows that this is not your first day working on the car. We really enjoy watching your videos… Keep up the good work young man.
@@garthsgraveyardgarage yes Sir i get that, i just hope it doesn’t discourage you from creating content. Again keep up the fantastic content. We all really appreciate you sharing. 🤘
The rubber (line ) is a hose there is a outer and a inner hose to them it mite look ok But the inner part of that hose can calaps. stopping the flow as a safety thing I would recommend doing all 4 brake hoses for the kid
At 57, I always thought the rake was to help the spoilers create down force in high speed turns, but Uncle Tony says it was to copy dragsters that were tilted to house big rear drag slicks. Air shocks might be cheaper than heavy duty coils, especially if it needs shocks anyway and not coils.
No matter what you do or how you do it someone's gonna have something to say about it. Just do what you do. You've survived this long without them telling you what to do. Ignore em.
Easier was to get the blue off of whitewalls is SOS pads (the ones with soap in them) or the blue/green Brillo pads…I ran wide whitewalls on my ‘62 and it would take about 45 seconds per tire.
We should get a dozen people to post there white wall clean’n tips , I bet that debate garnered Puddin thousands of comments. All of those comments feed the algorithm (all hail the Algorithm) . In the end Garth’s channel would be seen by more potential subscribers.
This week, going to be replacing a master cylinder in my car, first time ever in my 50+ years of driving, doing this, just never had one go bad before. Thank goodness for UA-cam University, channels like yours and others, I am tackling this. Bleeding the brake system will be the next hurtle that I am confident I will be able to clear.
They have stuff to bleed brakes by yourself now too. You can crack the bleeders and let them drip/gravity bleed, or use a small bottle with a magnet & a hose to pump bleed them. Half the battle is simply giving it a shot.
Mustie1, Junkyard Mook, Shop Kat, ColdWarMotors etc. all collect too many vehicles over time, so I suggest flipping more, ideally to friends who occationally drive them in for visits like coldwar Motors. This prevents storage problems too, and is just more practical, though Dean's Greasy Flips Dean does too little work.
Very nice of you, Garth, what a great thing you're doing here and you and your family are a joy to watch. Maybe I missed it but are you using gas with the Titanium, or flux core wire? Thanks for making great videos!

Awesome and I'm looking forward to the vinyl top restore. I was wondering how you would do that...flex seal, bed liner or is there an actual replacement product? Can't wait!
I just wax in the dirt with spray wax, and would leave the tire blue too because I'm for longevity before appearance, and I like blue anyway. I think the dirt can hold more spray wax than a clean surface would hold. Also, If the new brake clips don't work, then doesn't that make the original clips irreplaceable? and isn't it worth a bit of time to try to protect irreplaceable clips?
Do you think you could have reconnected the hoses to the calipers and stomped on the pedal to break free the pistons? Then hone? especially since the new calipers don't fit? or do new seals not fit either?
