I just got the Novablast 4, they are comfortable and responsive. My only concern is that the trampoline pod at the mid-foot is causing me some pain. Did you have a similar feeling and does it go away with time? I am a midfoot striker so I am usually landing on it.
I just returned my Endorphin Pro 4's bc I found the version 3's for half the price. You're right the Pro 3's are a great show! Versatile & comfortable. They are just as good at the slower paces during long runs as they are for faster paces. Thanks again for your video Ben! I´m an heavier runner myself with 83kg and 1,92 m. My rotation is the Novablast 4 as daily and for longer sessions, Noosa Tri 14 for shorter and a bit quicker, and an old adizero adios 5 for quick and short, or rainy wheather - the outsole is the best i ever had!
Saucony has always been my go-to. The speeds have always been amazing for me. (Especially the last two variations for daily training). Firmer more responsive ride with the plate for added pop and responsive feeling. The saucony pro 3 is a great balance of cushion and responsiveness for me. The triumph is my current ez day shoe. My last marathon prep recently was run almost exclusively on the ASICS super blast. The new balance more v4 was a learning experience for me as I absolutely can’t run in the max cushion/ plush shoes. Felt like running in quicksand.
I'm 100+ KG runner and I absolutely love the New Balance More V4 it's comfortable and has a nice wide base to keep me stable. I also have the Triumph 20 which are great for when you want a little more bounce 😊
Im on a weight loss journey which is split between running, cycling and gym work. Started at 237 pounds and now down to 200. I like the invincible 3 but it certainly lacks stability. The zoom fly 5 has been great for me which most light runners seem not to like. I feel and record faster paces in the zoom fly 5. Definitely want to try asics again, its been many years since i wore them as they didnt fit me well. Curious to see how the new models would fit my midfoot these days.
5’10 240 lbs training for half marathon and the ASICS novablasts are comfortable, protective, and have a nice rocker and bounce to them to help me keep up the pace
I just started using the Clifton 9s for a couple weeks now and love them. I am not a heavy runner, only about 65kg but they are like running on clouds for me. It also helps me since recovering from my sciatica problems.
I've really settled into my Zoom Fly 5's - as someone who's 16-stone something they've quickly become a favourite in my rotation. Took about 20-25 miles to really bed in and settle, but they're now my go-to for medium distances/tempo runs for when I'm not racing/pushing 100%. Was worried at first, but after that bed in period they really changed character.

Currently have the Adrenaline GTS 23's from brooks, quite enjoying them. Used to have Gel Kayano 30's but those were wearing out so I decided to try something new, mainly to feel a difference and for a better design. Quite enjoying them, was hesitant to switch but glad I gave it a go!

I’m 102kgs/225lbs, wide flat feet, mid foot striker, 10:30-11:25 /mile pace. I prefer NB Rebel v4 (2E) for daily, NB SC Trainer v2 (2E) for recovery runs, and NB FC Elite V4 (2E) for any race.
I agree. They seem to run more on the firm side without that "running in sand" feeling super cush shoes can have. I run the CloudFlyer4 which is on the firmer side of their line.
Great video Ben. There's a lot of us out here that benefit from your testing. I've been running the On CloudFlyer 4, which at first I thought was too firm, but has broken in nicely. It's not the lightest shoe but has a great roll, good responsiveness, and one thing I've been really liking, is the torsional flex in cornering.
I don’t run at my size and age (53 and 260),, but I’m still active and quite nimble for my size. Previous iterations of the Brooks Beast worked great for me. Ive tried others over the years, but The BEAST Lis the only shoe I’ve found to work for me.
I started with Brooks Glycerin and Adrenalin but the Brooks foam collapsed quickly. Then I discovered the ASICS Glideride 3 and this one is just perfect for me. Unfortunately there is no successor in the line so I had luck to get another pair for a later replacement of the first pair that got 600km so far. For rotation I use the Nimbus 25, comfort is okay but you can’t pick up pace and feels a bit heavy as well. For forest runs I love my ASICS Trabuco Max 2!
I'm a newer distance runner, IE not a sprinter. I'm looking for a pair of daily trainers around $100 US. They need to be durable and they need to not work against me when i train. I don't need any fancy enhancements like a plate. I just need shoes that will help me get stronger and last for many miles/k. I'm currently running in a pair of Nike Flex Evolution and I love them but they are reaching the end of their life. I figure this is a chance to try something different. Oh, and I'm 6'1 currently 200lbs, so I'm need shoes that will suit a mid-sized to bigger guy. Also, I walk and run supinated.
Nice video. I am a heavier runner, and I wouldn’t be a runner at all if it wasn’t for the Invincible line. Currently own and love the Invincible 3’s. Just the right cushion, with the perfect amount of response…for me.
Close to 100kg, Asics Gel Kayano give me shin splints, some Under Armor shoes I had trouble with calf muscles, changed to Adidas Boston 12 and Supernova Rise and all my injuries niggles have gone away almost overnight, both of them extremely comfortable and can’t recommend them enough
What i see is, Asics Superblast is all the way! Long Run ✅ Speedwork ✅ Easy Run ✅ Light Stability ✅ Recovery Run ✅ Race ✅ High Stack ✅ Cushion ✅ Versatile ✅ Durable ✅ The only downside is its price.
Some good, yet snubbed options that were available when this video was released include the Mizuno Wave Sky 7, Brooks Ghost Max, and New Balance More V4... all of which have a newer version now that improved further upon them.
Best Marathon shoes have been Saucony Endorphin Pro 3. Although my mind gave up toward the end my legs, carrying 84kg on a 168cm body, just kept chugging along. I finished injury free and knocked 52 minutes on my PB. Very good race day shoe.
I dont join events now cause its additional expense, I joined back then just to build the habit. So no need for race day shoes anymore. My current rotation is the nimbus 26 TR and the Novablast 4 TR. Slightly more weight than the non TRs but more traction and durability.
As a heavier runner I’ve enjoyed the Alpha Fly 3s better than the 2s (the 2s just don’t get along with my feet) but I did notice the 3s wear a lot more than my twos after a few practice runs in them. I also like the Nike Vapor Fly 3s I’ve been able to run my fastest mile, 5k and 10k in those. The Boston 12s are also a good shoe. I use it as a daily and I have done a few training half marathons in it and after over 150 miles everything is holding up well. I’ve also liked the Under Armor velocity flow elites for speedier days as a plated trainer.
The first pair I bought as a 95kg runner was a pair of Brooks Glycerin 20’s which I’d 100% recommend to anyone. Just waiting on delivery of a pair of Saucony Triumph’s so I’m chuffed they were the first shoes you recommended!
Ben, can you do one for the very light runners? I'm below the 60kg mark and find most shoes clunky or the midsoles feel too firm (it seems I can't compress them enough). Thanks
I feel like the Saucony Echelon should have been included on this list. It’s certified by APMA, comes in regular, wide, and extra wide. Unlike other lasts, the toe box and the mid-food are actually wide when they say wide. Neutral shoe that also is suited to accommodate prescription orthotics which, when I was a heavier runner, was a game changer for me. By my estimation, I’ve probably worn through 10+ pairs of this shoes over the last 4-5 years. There is nothing sexy about the shoe, it just gets the job done for a wider foot and heavier person.
I'd definitely recommend the Puma Magnify Nitro 2 as well. A similar shoe to the Triumph with the brilliant Puma Grip - I've just clocked 650km in my current pair and you wouldn't even know it.
The Prime X Strung V1 is as good as the Nike for racing and can be picked up for nearly half the price. The Boston 12 is also an absolute banger for daily runs as well.
I'm a fat guy and I got into running thanks to my girlfriend. I recently got the Glycerin 21 GTS and I love it. It's a firmer kind of softness and it doesn't feel like my foot is digging into the shoe and I land on them.
Hi sir, I am searching for a shoe for my son 12 years old wide feet size uk 10. I want him to build leg muscles and stamina which would help him for his main sports. Do high cushion shoes are good for leg power/ muscles etc. or low road feeling shoes good for him ? Kindly suggest I am confused and need guidance. He does 2 and 3 miles run daily.
I’m not an heavy runner but my best 2023 shoe was the Superblast og colorway 500kms and still great.....and for 2024 it’s still the same with a new pair in that new bright red colorway (238g in my size 8.5us) ...cheers from France 🇫🇷👋🤩
Got my first pair delivered today. Took to the gym and the treadmill as raining. A bit wobbly. Can't wait to take them outside for a proper long run Sunday. I think they are going to be really good. Got dailies so will save for long runs.
Adidas are great for big runners like myself (240lbs). Lightstrike Pro seems to be just the right firmness. Boston 12 and Superblast are my two go tos right now and I lean Boston 12.
I actually seem to follow your set of shoes :)! I got the Boston 12, they are pretty great especially for race day. I also got the Novablast 4 as a comfortable long run shoe but it caused me some pain in the midfoot from the trampoline pod. I am planning to switch it with either the Superblast or the NB SC trainer v2. Do you recommend the superblast for this rotation?
I really like your channel and enjoy all your videos. I also like Believe in the run. You both have talked about this best shoes for heavier runners. Depending on the definition of heavier runner. I really don’t believe there’s a specific category for heavier or lighter runners. What’s important is stability and the fit. The only difference I see would be the life of the shoe based on the impact ratio.
Thank you Ben for the video. Please kindly confirm and verify if one can purchase different widths of men's Asics Gel Nimbus 26 and Novoblast 4 in the UK. I have not managed to find the wide versions in brighter colourways. It is frustrating that we always have far fewer options in the UK than those living in the US.
I’d throw the Ride 15/16 in there. Firmer PWRRun foam, comfortable and they can be had for very cheap. I speak from experience, I got a pair of Ride 15s back when I was like 225 lbs and they took care of me well.
@@TomUK7I had same question. I am 80k so I guess heavy (when I compare to other runners I know). Not sure the ratio matters. Why would the shoe care about or know your height? I would say it is only about the weight. 80+k?
I've had some bad experiences with new balance shoes where the foam would flatten out quite quickly. Hoka doesnt have the best quality in general, but i dont really attribute that to my weight. Bondi 6 are the only shoes ive had to replace due to outsole wearing out! Adidas are quite good. Altra the same.
Im 225lbs. I get 40% off all Nike products, sometimes more and so badley want to find a Nike shoe that works. The Wildhorse 8 is nice for trail but I've been disappointed with all the road shoes. I'm currently using the novablast 3 and really like them. Bought some pegasus 40 to rotate but I feel like my legs wear out too quick in those.
I'm new to running shoes and got the Glycerin 21 as a heavy runner. I had a outdoor 3 mile run and they didn't feel great. I ordered the Glycerin 20 GTS to see if they make a difference as they're also cheaper. I'm afraid it's not the shoe but the way I run probably, who knows lol!
Unfortunately i am tall as well as heavy and I cannot find shoes in my number easily (49-50). Saucony always has my number thankfully, so picked up triumph 21 for daily runs (speed 3 for intervals). They seem great aftet some break in, thanks!
Saucony triumph 21 cost a lot & were very disappointing in the fact that the upper mesh over big toe disintegrated on two pairs of shoes. Not buying them again. Hoka Arhai 6 cost a lot but great shoe.
Great review Ben! Ive been following your channel and it's impressive. I have an important question for you. There are a ton of shoes out there bragging so many different things and I'm totally confused. Reading some reviews I bought Orthofeet and I'm disappointed which I'm going to return within 10 days. I am a 330 lbs guy who has wide feet & normal arch. I want to change that by starting walking everyday for 10K steps at least along with diet. Orthofeet gave me pain in the feet & metatarsals and pressure pain in the knee joint after barely walking 1 km. Im not saying Orthofeet is bad but it just didn't work for me. Im looking for EXTRA WIDE Walking/ Running Shoes with great cushioning and supportive to my feet and joints being able to absorb the shock of my weight. Which is the best shoes that you'd want to recommend to me?
Hello good day, I’m not a heavy runner but I’m looking for a pair of runners that would do great in pavement and also off-road/rocky course. The off-road is not much. I have some adidas that get rocks stuck in the sole right now. Thanks I’m advance.
I’m 100kg and looking at the New Balance Rebel 3 and the Puma Velocity Nitro 3. Which would you recommend? I want something to munch miles for Ironman training.
Brooks running shoes have 10mm drop while Hoka’s have 4-5mm drop. For heavier runners, which would be a better option, in terms of heel drop? Will a 10mm drop put excessive pressure on the knees? I have tried both and loved running in 10mm drop, however, felt a lot of pain in my knees, so changed it to 5mm. Curious to know what others think about it?
Is nimbus 26 good for standing a lot during the day and walking? Not a runner here :). I'm torn between bondi 8, Gaviota 5 and nimbus 26. What do u recommend? :)
is the superblast a better option than the novablast 4 for a heavier runner ? I tested both and can have the NB4 for 100 EUR but enjoyed more the feeling (bounce and light weight) from the superblast and i don't know if I can justify the price difference with the Superblast
Thanks for the effort you put into doing this review, but how can a light weight person do a review on shoes for heavy runners. I know you USED to be heavy but the shoes you ran in then are not the same shoes today. They may feel good to someone lightweight with good running form but how do they feel to a 120 kg runner? Thanks for the review and keep up the good work.
Heavy runners should look at firm shoes, not super soft max cushioned ones that will bottom out and slow them down. SL2 or even Adios 8 or Boston 12, maybe.
Any recs for a woman runner training for distance my max distance is 8 miles right now and really looking to build on that. I weigh approx 130 for reference medium to narrow width
I have a dumb question-can someone like me, who is looking to run her first marathon at a very un-impressive sub 5 time, use a "recovery" shoe for race day? Not looking to BQ-just to finish upright! 🙂
Not a dumb question 😊 I used speed v1 to run my 5:25. Plenty of people run marathons in "recovery " shoes.. glycerin...hoka Clifton...ASICS nimbus... if they are good during your long runs they will be good for marathon day. You'll appreciate it at the end when you've been in your feet so long. You got this!
No mizuno? Ok, so I stay with my wave sky 5 with already 700+km... I hope they will last till i decide what to buy next :D (I have hoka bondi 8 with 150+km on them, but after 120km something changed and im not sure if i still like them and how long will they last).
Can anybody recommend a carbon shoe for some body with low arches, I’ve tried the Vaporfly and Alphafly and both are way too narrow in the mid foot for me?
Thanks a lot!!! Really! Here's the summary for me-of-the-future:
1:28 *Saucony* _Triumph 21_ (37 - 10)
1:50 *Hoka* _Clifton 9_ (32 - 5)

Are you able to do a video of what shoes are good for runners with flat feet
Close to 100kg, Asics Gel Kayano give me shin splints, some Under Armor shoes I had trouble with calf muscles, changed to Adidas Boston 12 and Supernova Rise and all my injuries niggles have gone away almost overnight, both of them extremely comfortable and can’t recommend them enough
What i see is, Asics Superblast is all the way!

The only downside is its price.
you can’t have it all at once, mate 😅
ouch yeah Id be using them a lot but yeah that price
Some good, yet snubbed options that were available when this video was released include the Mizuno Wave Sky 7, Brooks Ghost Max, and New Balance More V4... all of which have a newer version now that improved further upon them.
Thanks for the info.
I've ordered the Nimbus 25.
Cheers from Romania.
Puma Deviate Nitro 2 aswell
Got the endorphin speed 4 and I’m around 210lbs and they’ve been working well for me
Love my Novablast and Superblast. Going to try some Cliftons to see how I like them
Great work Ben, this is actually a big help to me!
Best Marathon shoes have been Saucony Endorphin Pro 3. Although my mind gave up toward the end my legs, carrying 84kg on a 168cm body, just kept chugging along. I finished injury free and knocked 52 minutes on my PB. Very good race day shoe.
What do you classify as a heavier runner?
I am 6ft and around 205 to 210 lbs.
Great video! As always! Thank you for your information and research
Thanks
Brooks Ghost are great for heavy runners too!
I’ve done a lot of miles (400+) in Hoka Elevon 2’s and they were superb. I’m 100kg sub 20 5k runner.
I really like your videos. Super helpful and informative. Helped me a lot in understanding the shoes that would be best suited for my needs.
Vomero 17 have treated me well so far
As a heavier for my size runner, who can destroy shoes, I’ve found adidas light strike foam and saucony pb foam to be very reliable in multiple shoes.
As a big bastard, the Brooks Hyperion elite 4 have been amazing.
Ben, what socks do you use for your long runs
Thanks for the video. I started in the Brooks Adrenaline v22. I switched to Hoka 9 and enjoyed everything about except the low durability.
The Prime X Strung V1 is as good as the Nike for racing and can be picked up for nearly half the price. The Boston 12 is also an absolute banger for daily runs as well.
He's not heavy, he's my brother.
"It's long long road "
They are way cheaper than all the other models in my country, I might give it a try.
@@jonhalda I’d encourage it! Quality daily trainer, did a run on my 15s earlier today!
The video I didnt know I needed!
What are you classing as ‘heavier runners’?
I suppose its about your weight to height ratio.
Great suggestions Ben! I have the Gel nimbus 25 but for road I actually prefer the Hoka Arahi 6. They have some support and dont feel too soft.
I run in the Triumph and get a great lock down along with comfort for my narrow feet.
I'm new to running shoes and got the Glycerin 21 as a heavy runner. I had a outdoor 3 mile run and they didn't feel great. I ordered the Glycerin 20 GTS to see if they make a difference as they're also cheaper. I'm afraid it's not the shoe but the way I run probably, who knows lol!
i had a pair of GTS 20's. They worked well for me. Just a comfy tank of a shoe for grinding out miles. Hope they work well for you too.
@@shaunukhiking That’s awesome to hear, can’t wait to try them! Thanks!
Unfortunately i am tall as well as heavy and I cannot find shoes in my number easily (49-50).
Saucony always has my number thankfully, so picked up triumph 21 for daily runs (speed 3 for intervals).
They seem great aftet some break in, thanks!
Gracias. Vídeo muy orientativo.
Saucony triumph 21 cost a lot & were very disappointing in the fact that the upper mesh over big toe disintegrated on two pairs of shoes. Not buying them again.
Hoka Arhai 6 cost a lot but great shoe.
Started running at 125kg - gone for Brooks Ghost - tried other brands but these are just best for me 👻
Great review Ben!
Great video, thank you Ben
Same here, when run in Puma Velocity nitro 2 (10mm drop), What kind of shoe have 5mm drop? And how do you feel now, still the same?
Hoka have 5mm drop
Is nimbus 26 good for standing a lot during the day and walking? Not a runner here :). I'm torn between bondi 8, Gaviota 5 and nimbus 26. What do u recommend? :)
is the superblast a better option than the novablast 4 for a heavier runner ? I tested both and can have the NB4 for 100 EUR but enjoyed more the feeling (bounce and light weight) from the superblast and i don't know if I can justify the price difference with the Superblast
Just bought this pair of Hokas C9 today and im am just getting into running. Foot pronates and felt that it was in a neutral position when i tried it
Thanks for the effort you put into doing this review, but how can a light weight person do a review on shoes for heavy runners.
I prefer the NB More V4.Midsole, fit and stability just perfect
I just got a pair good to hear!
What is a heavy runner to be considered? Pro athletes for example are light between 55 kg and 65 kg
@@michite7435 Thank you! I hope so- my luck in just getting to the start line has been....well, unpredictable? lol.
Saucony stopped to make wide width in triumph 21? Before they did on previous versions
Is there one of these for wider feet?
No mizuno? Ok, so I stay with my wave sky 5 with already 700+km... I hope they will last till i decide what to buy next :D (I have hoka bondi 8 with 150+km on them, but after 120km something changed and im not sure if i still like them and how long will they last).
Define heavier? Im 200lbs, id say im heavier, correct? How are the novablast vs the superblast?
can you do one for lighter runners?
Most or every running shoes would caters to light runners. Rule of thumb I heard is to preferably get shoes below 10 oz. Above it is your discretion
Can anybody recommend a carbon shoe for some body with low arches, I’ve tried the Vaporfly and Alphafly and both are way too narrow in the mid foot for me?
Love my saucony kinvara pros
Hi mate, could you let me know if carbon plate shoes are banned from marathons?
as a fat guy over 200lbs, i am very happy with my kayano. i almost bought every generation since from kayano 19th.
what do you think of Skyward X for Half Marathon?
I'm a little confused between the Daily Shoes (Neutral) and the easy/recovery/max comfort? Is the former for long 10 mile + runs or ?
what is considered heavy?
