This is for explosiveness. Usually you would want a full squat, yes. But in this case, him pushing off the bench helps build his explosive power, and that’s what he needs.

This man 6 ft 234 lb and doing a half squat. I'm not saying its light but its not a big deal. I'm 5'5 and 150 lb doing 434 lb full squat but still I respect his work, he is still strong for his size.

Box squats are good for training explosiveness but also give a nice little break on your knees…great workout for a RB who’s had knee problems
