Congratulations! Maybe a potential and future archaeologist? 🍀 If he likes it, get him a trowel, a couple pieces of flint, a Dutch army sweater and a hat with a feather. 😉
His spirit lives on. Like the whole show, he inspired people to look around them and he left an indelible mark on so many people. That's quite a legacy and I think he would be very surprised by it all.
Stewart is such a trooper and so dedicated to time team and his landscape histories. Don't know how old the man is now but by now most would be rocking on the porch dottling the grand kids. So good to see teaching going on with the tried and true archeologists. Just warms my heart to see things progressing into the future.
Stewart is the MAN! I identify most with him for his cartography and lay-of-the-land reading skill set. Would love to compare notes over a pint, or three.
I can’t extol Time Team enough for continued their excavations. In additional to the scientific and educational content, there’s something quite comforting about seeing the original Team members.
As much as I love the uncovering of big structures and stories, these community digs that give a glimpse into a thousand years of history of a particular place are my favourite episodes!
The ‘new’ TimeTeam is finding its feet! It’s not the ‘old’ one, but it is growing on me! This was a terrific dig. Delighted to have contributed my little bit through Patreon. Keep up the good work.
I would like to see way more of Stewarts work. He can tell us so much from reading the landscape, yet he seems to often only get the footnotes. Now, I don't know how much he manages to actually find for every episode, but it would also be interesting listening to him how he is working when interpreting the landscape and its use over time. How about a Stewart Ainsworth special where he gets to talk about his favourite work and locations?
I discovered Timeteam about 3 years ago. I've been hooked ever since. I've bingewatched all 18 or 20 seasons. From the time when Tony Robinson had long hair and an earring to being bald. I've enjoyed every episode and now a Patreon. There is amazing archeology around the world, all shedding light of the past. England has done something very unique. They brought archeology to people's doorstep. They have help create such a sence of community in an ever more distant world. I wonder how communities would change all over Europe if they did the same. Would they feel more connected instead of displaced, turning their once thriving cities into ghost towns?
so nice to see the community test pits approach. these people seem really enthusiastic to learn about where they live. a great way to add history to the world.
@@RichardParker-b1hI want to echo this sentiment! I really enjoyed hearing your perspective in this dig. I'm going to share this with my architecture professor mum who has her masters and PhD in environmental psychology from the university of Surrey. I think she will really enjoy your contributions!
I thought this episode was the perfect evolution of the new Time Team. The presenting felt like a group effort. The new technology added to the dig rather than feel like it was being used to show how things have changed since the classic series. There was a lot of excitement and warmth from the team, guests and public. Absolutely fantastic! Thank you
Modbury is a nice town, just down the road from me. Never spent much time there, for many people its just a high street you drive through on the way to somewhere. My forklift truck training was held there a year ago, gave me the chance to wander the back streets. That gave me a new appreciation of the place, and this episode has propelled that even further, thank you.
This one genuinely felt like classic Time Team. Congrats to everyone involved- the 'team', the whole crew, the editors, the people of Modbury, and especially the Patreon supporters who helped make it happen. Cheers.
Stewart’s ability to see the past in the landscape is always fascinating! Honestly if I lived in the U.K. or anywhere in Europe, I’m pretty sure I would dig up my own garden just out of curiosity!
In typical Time Team form, the tantalizing bits & pieces of history come together at the end of day 3. I have enjoyed watching every minute... as a member of Time Team Patreon, in my opinion, you did us proud. A huge thank you to the people of Modbury. This was great !! 👍😁
Talk about peeling back the layers. I have a Stetson ancestor that I've been wondering about and Time Team just gave me a chunk of my family tree. Totally unexpected.
Awesome! Well worth the wait. Stewart's wanderings are always my favourite bits! Especially loving the selfie footage from these episodes. Looking forward to more episodes.
Seeing the history of the town through landscape, architecture, history, genealogy, and archeological finds is fascinating. It’s a joy to watch the community contribute and learn as well.
I like Richard. He’s got so much info floating around in his head, he struggles to get it all out in a way we can understand. I get it. I do the same thing. He’s interesting.
@@RichardParker-b1h I’m a fan. Not a critic. You’re just so wise and knowledgeable your mouth can’t keep up with you. lol. You have interesting and concise info. Again, that was not a knock. A light hearted compliment. Look forward to seeing you more sir and hearing your wealth of mental surplus. Cheers!
Thank you Time Team for another fine adventure in archaeology. I’m happy to be a Patreon contributor so that I can look forward to more of these in the future!
I was avoiding the new episodes until I had several to watch in a row... really pleased to see the team grow more fluidly, with an energy similar to the old Time Team.
I love seeing the children involved with the digs. As an adult I was able to help with a dig and it was a high point for me, imagine how much children are inspired for their future.
I’ve really enjoyed the Modbury episodes. Love the whole test pits in your back gardens idea, and excellent job of involving the local schools. Carenza is so great with the kids. Very happy to support TT through Patreon, very happy with what Tim and TT do with that funding. (And yes, I miss Mick too.). Onward to Sutton Hoo!
The test pits were very exciting because they revealed that towns with many years of history could invent and reinvent themselves as the community's fortunes rose and fell. Thank you!
One of my ancestors was a cooper, who lived on Brownston Street, so great to see the street mentioned, as well as to find so much about one of my ancestral home towns.
Wow what an outcomeforonly 3 days of digging. So nice to see how the inhabitants all became part of the team. Amd allso the famous Stetson family. Another job weel done which reveals wounds and a chance to heal.
it is so fun seeing the continuation of the team. I remember Tony with black hair, turning grey and ending up white. Helen hasnt changed much and the only change in Carenza is that glorious white mane. Matt has changed since he was so young (compared to the more experienced members) and cheeky. now he looks grown up. we have all aged together.
Fascinating info on Iron Age era, I had suspected that Runaway Lane could have been a much earlier trackway predating even Saxon/Norman mott-n-bailey Modbury, perhaps eroded by stormwater runoff down the slope but I couldn't explain such a deep cut- so glad you tied it to later 18thC earthworks, makes so much more sense, even as the lay of the land looks almost Tolkeinesque, it couldn't have been Ringwraiths or Orcs that made that ha ha !
I thoroughly enjoyed all three episodes. It's particularly impressive that all the information was gathered together from test pits, little windows of history.
3 excellent episodes that show exactly what the secret of TIME TEAM really is talented individuals doing what they love most, and we the fans get to go along, what an interesting, and entertaining Community Dig. And, even Mick was there in spirit. I had never supported any Patreon anything until I joined last year just to help support TIME TEAM, they deserve to get this wonderful opportunity and all the LOVE & support they are getting from the fans worldwide, no matter the amount, every bit helps make more of this educational, entertaining and important content for the history books. And, each of us Paterons are a bit of that discovery, how wonderful to think about that... And, I love how Hilde got promoted to willing participant in the new generation of re-enactments and Matt is now the new Trench Master, a bit like Phil. love it!! Things change, but really they stay the same, just getting more and more modern with the tech! Whats NEXT!!!
I really enjoyed these episodes, they felt very tactile and real. I love that you showed more of the real finds and not as many digital reconstructions.
Amazing to think there has been virtually no archeology exploring the towns formation before. What beautiful stone work to find just laying in a garden.
So the evidence for the Battle(s) of Modbury is two bullets (one of which might be from hunting), the apparent post-Restoration remodelling of the village/town, and some disparate accounts that vary wildly regarding scale and composition of the armies. Fantastic! Loved it. Time Team is certainly going from strength to strength. I loved the old Time Team but this evolution is brilliant.
I miss Victor's wonderful drawings.
A complicated but fascinating history of the town and the aftereffects of a civil war. Modbury seems to be a lovely place. Thank you, Time Team!
I can’t even imagine how exciting it would be to have so much history in your own backyard.
