Well now, straight and to the point (so-to-speak). You showed us a quick (really) and easy way to make the repair without needing to have expensive parts / tools. Thanks from this side o' da pond (Indianapolis, IN, USA).
Thanks for this video. I broke the top eye on my spod rod so bought a new one which then snapped at the tip. I used the eye from the snapped tip to replace the broken eye. I now have a functioning spod rod. Great video 💯
I chose the shortest video i could see. It was a great choice.
Thank you sir.
Thanks for posting this, just broke my rod tip (one of my favorite rods!!!) getting stuck in a branch that was floating down river so will give this a try
Just what I needed, a massive thank you.
A tip I picked up from ace lure angler Dave Kelbrick, which I think he shared on one of Matt Hayes programmes ??? ,is to thread a large fluro bead onto your line, above the trace swivel. This will stop said swivel from being wound into the tip eye and causing damage etc..... Because of the fluro colour, you should notice any over winding of the line, long before the bead gets near the tip ring.
When I was a bit younger I found a bunch of fishing rods that had few broken eyes on them. I took them, fixed and gave away. Please don't throw your rods away. Find someone who might want to fix em and use.
A very quick and informative video, Great Work, Well Done! Paul
cheers, back from Tenby are we?
Thank you mate, you just saved me some money as my eyelet popped out of my ABU GARCIA fishing rod tip and was going to take it to a tackle shop to get fixed. i removed the tip as you showed in your video, did not know how easy it was to replace.
Now i'm going down to the tackle shop to buy a new tip
Cheers from Australia :)
Glad I could help
Great video, I broke 2, end eyes the same way you did. Reeled the leader in to far and broke the glass part out of the eye.
Good fishing!! 🐋
Huge thanks! It was super easy. First time having to replace one as the same thing happened on my more expensive rod as it did on yours. Thank you so much for the help!
Yeah I'm gonna try this for the first time, glad I saw this video.
TV
This is just what happened to me the other day fishing off the coast of Alicante (surfcasting actually) What a nice video! I can tell you like doing this.
I too like videography and have my own channel Biker's Garage 101and The Lokking Glass (new).
Thank you so much for taking the time to put these together and share with the rest of the angling community.
Thumbs up from Spain amigo!
Peace!
muchas gracias
Be careful folks. Any overheating will result in the carbon fibre at the tip breaking down. So it has to be just enough to melt the glue (if indeed a thermosetting glue were used originally). So heating while pulling at the ring is to be preferred because it'll break away as soon as the glue-line melts without the carbon fibre rod tip getting too hot. If the tip is not attached using thermosetting glue then the preferred method is to file (or gently grind with something like a Dremmel) along the side of the tip and then open it out with a pair of pliers and slide it off.
Another hint - load some threads of the hot melt glue inside the new eye before attaching it to the rod tip... it will give a much more secure joint.
Great video, still helping people 4 years later !
Thanks mate, I need to do this with my favourite carp rod. I was wondering how you got the tip off, I was about to go at it with a stanley blade, im glad I watched this first1
Hi from Russia! Good luck on fishing, bro!
One of your better videos. And you seem be liking the Joakim Karud.
Great Video. Thanks🎣🎣🎣🎣
Good info, easy to follow. Thanks.
Exactly what I was looking for!!!!
Thanx a zillion! 🙏🎣
Thanks for the tutorial just repair my favourite rod using yr technique
I’ve got a few decent little rods all 3 need end eye replacement, I’m hoping it’s as easy as this guy made it look
Thanks mate! Just what I needed.
so professional, even the videos.
If you wrap masking tape around the rod end of the eye tube - assemble push tight and aligned with other eyes - then wrap masking tape around the rod at join - then check eye alignment and mark across both tapes with sharp pencil. You can disassemble - glue - assemble in immediate alignment. This will help with clean-up too.
Cheers man, as always helpful and quality video!
Great job mate
Excellent video
Well done!
This was fantastic, amazing help cheers 👌
impecable como siempre
Brilliant, thank you
Awesome mate!! Thanks so much! Fish on !
nice video mate
Thanks!From South Africa.
Great detailed video. Btw, 2-part epoxy works for me. As an added advantage, you have more time to do some adjustments until it's cured.
Can confirm, and it's much sturdier after the fact.
You use the 2-part epoxy to glue on the eye, or to finish? If gluing it on, how are you going to replace it in the future when the eye gets damaged?
i usually heat it with a lighter until it softens enough to take the eye off, probably not the best approach but it works for me.
Your audio is so good my man!
thanks
Excellent video, thanks!
You are welcome!
the Sharpe pen lure.. YES!!
soon, very soon
Great job
Really good
I have a abu Garcia vengeance combo from Walmart that was eating up my line. I mixed up some JB Weld and applied it to the top 3 eyelets. See how that works.
necessity is the mother of invention. I once broke a rod tip of one of my favorite rods about 6 inches below the tip. S I used an old drill bit to fit inside the rod (it was fiberglass) and some epoxy to glue it all up. Still have the rod and it still works! To take care of t hat rough bevel, I has seen some use shrink tubing to cover it.
thanks
Congrats on 100k
thanks
Sorted thanks! Needed a little more glue but mine was a teeny tiny bit looser than yours.
Another awsome video. A humble suggestion Paul is a dremel tool cut off wheel makes short work of any pole just be sure to where a particulate mask you don't want to inhale any of that dust but leaves a super clean and crack free blank. That's a super neat way to challenge a buddy I'm jellous.
Matt I was going to get the dremel out because I have seen them use one in the rod factory just to tidy up and trim things but the flaw in that plan was I could not find my dremel or the cut off wheels so i had to manage with a knife, cheers
The Handmade Fisherman your judgement is always spot on paul and a dremel is a little over kill especially when your knife hand is so keen. My fear is that I would cause a crush cut because I can be a bit heavy handed. I parted out a pallet load of store returned poles that I had purchased for a few bucks last year. The dremel was a good choice it made short work of all the bulk repairs and the grips/reel seats I cut down and stored to heat off the blanks later on.
sad to say this but saw this video on facebook and edited with some other logo without credit to you...btw love your works...
Wow super video nice bro
DIY same mo too very nice
Great tutorial thank you
great video! how about the other ring guides? mine just won't come off somehow
Awsum mate
Now I know thanks mate👌👍❤❤
thanks verry good video
thank you
thank you
Thanks for this video
hope it helps
A tip is to use a smal rubber pearl that are just a bit bigger than the top eye, put it on the main line before the swivellock and it will protect the eye from the swivel.
Or you just make a knot braid to leader
i like tutorials hi iam from indonesian country. now iam subscibe. thanm you uncle...
I've broken my 12ft rod eye what would you recommend to replace it ( i do sea fishing)
Thanks very much sir!
awesome video paul! can't wait to see the sharpie challenge. BTW have you ever tried custom painting a whole fishing rod? will acrylic spray paint work and won't crack with the rod flexing?
need a car to find some fish first, hopefully it will be sorted next week
job well done
That's exactly the job I need to do with one of my rods...thanks :)
thanks
You sir are a life saver!!!! Happened to one of my favorite rods and was able to replace in a matter of minutes!
Any advice on the eyes on the body of the rod? Bought some yard sales, not in top condition but wanting to do repairs as a bit of a hobby, one fishing reel is missing it's handle used in reeling in the line and another keeps falling out, hoping for advice, ty.
My advice? Don't buy junk rods from yard sales!😂
what kind of glue is that? silicone? or that one we use for pvc?
what is the glue gun stick? silicone or something different type?
Snapped the eye on my beachcaster not long ago, is it the same technique?
i have never replaced the tip on beach-caster, so i do not what give you duff information, but i will ask in work tomorrow. i suspect they will recommend a five minute epoxy
i tried this and the whole tips and a bit of the wood stuck in there i think mine had a supper strong glue it took off maybe 1/2 cm but i found a longer eye to get it to be cack to normal
last few i tryed to fix the lighter trick didnt work
great v video
thanks
A little tip i've always put a small rubber bead on my line to prevent this happening and it does not impair the lure's action
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
cutting 1 cm from the rod tip will effect of the rod action .. rule number 1 : blank is untouchable
Kiedy otrzymuję od Ciebie Paul nowy film, zawsze czuję pewien niepokój - co nowego pokażesz? I nigdy się nie zawiodłem. Dziękuję Ci Paul i pozdrawiam serdecznie.
What about a snapped eye in a wooden pole
hot glue doesnt work..been fighting with it for a month now..the damn tip keeps coming loose and i have to reheat it and let it cool..then a few days later same thing.
squirt super glue into the tip's hole then plug it. just make sure to line it up to the other eyes.
i have been using it on on rod for about 3 years and never had to reheat, i have used superglue and after a while it started to spin
I have a really old stick of birch tar that we have been using for 50 years. Never had a fail.
2-part epoxy works for me. As an added advantage, you have more time to do some adjustments until it's cured.
matanuska high locktite adhisive works well
Tried this is a Penn Fierce 2 and the tip wouldn't come out. Ended up melting the whole thing
😭😭😭 i did the same with my 190$ rod today
verry good !!
i did that
This is not a permanent fix. Been lure fishing for many years now and tried a repair like this. The glue isn't strong enough for the job. Even with a ton of glue under and above the joint the forces involved in casting will force the eye to start twisting.
ماشاءالله تبارك الرحمن الرحيم
Boa dica!
translete pleas this wideo
No way it popped of that easily
I did this and cracked the shit out of my rod
Something goes wrong. I followed the steps but my hairs are on fire.
as long as it is your pubic hair you will be alright
Thanks! Super good video
thanks
Fainely we soo your fase
No no no
huh
I like Brendan
He is a good guy
cool, didnt work, tip melted and broke instead.
incorrect
those chinese eyes have a tendensee to break aswell i did the same and it broke 2 days later :(
I think they just don't have quality control so you get mostly good stuff with the odd piece of crap
You could of sanded it before you glued the new eye. You didn't do a good job.
YOU are one handsome dude!
it still had glue on it
Sean John dude, he did a great Job.
