For those who have the same problem try this: 1. Pair your device with the Alpine. 2. Shutdown your Alpine 3. DISABLE BLUETOOTH on your device 4.Turn on your alpine 5. Go into FW UPDATE, until you have "waiting" 5. On your device, start "Bluetooth file transfer", a message will pop telling you to activate your bluetooth in order to use this app. Say "YES" to that. 6.On your alpine you should now see "WAITING" !!!+ the Bt incon!!! 7. Now transfer the file as shown in video. --> Worked for me ! GL
It's 2022, and yes the stereo is still working 😁. I followed these instructions and it worked perfectly. 😎 Only thing I changed (which I don't know if it would have worked without} was when I initially paired the phone (after removing the existing pairing for good measure) was to enable ONLY the Media option of the Bluetooth paired device. I used a fully up-to-date Pixel 3a phone. Also when using the File Transfer software, when I went to COPY the file, I had to dump it into the 'Update' folder. Might seem obvious, but the step isn't documented anywhere. Nor is copying the file using 'FTP' mode when prompted. Also after the successful upgrade, which takes about 30s, I had to pair again with the stereo. This time I enabled all options, not just Media. Tested the phone, audio, contacts etc - all fine Hope this helps someone, maybe, possibly 👍🏼
I had the same update problem on my Alpine 138bt, first time of many update that I damaged an equipment. I have used Alpine for 25 years and after this changed to the Kenwood KDC-X997 and I'm really happy with this. I was little afraid about the sound but I really impressed, this is going to be my new receiver brand.
Just wanted to chime in even though I am way late to the party. I just bought US version CDE-W235BT and was disappointed to find that bluetooth audio didn't work with my new Pixel XL. Had similar problems to others where you would copy the file over via bluetooth (really Alpine? Really?) and it would just say updating over and over. I finally powered it off and back on and it wouldn't connect anymore in the normal menu. Tried again, same problem. Finally read some comments about using an old android device.... so here is what worked for me. 1. I used a Samsung S5 to do the transfer. US Version of the firmware, US version of the stereo. 2. Didn't need to pair the device first (it wasn't pairing anymore remember?) 3. Copied the file over, and here is where the old phone makes a difference. For whatever reason, the newer phone would say transferring for like 1 second and then say done. When i used the old phone it would say transferring and I could actually watch the progress bar copy the entire file. After this, it took about 30 seconds to say Updated - Press any Button. SWEET! My stereo now pairs with the PIXEL XL and I have bluetooth audio! I hope this helps someone else. I bought the stereo on ebay because it was one of the most ordinary looking double-din units. Most other stereos out there look like a disco ball in your dash.

I ran into a problem with the update - was endlessly saying don't touch button. I had to disconnect the power. Luckily the unit was not bricked. I then repeated the whole procedure, only using a much older android pad, as somebody suggested, and it went like a dream. Added bonus - My Amazon Echo Dot now connects to the Alpine - in van voice control! Coolio!
i have same problem before but after you clear all devices in alpine /i have CDE-235BT/ it is work great with me old phone with android xperia & update has long not 30sec, 1min 30sec in me case.Now iPhone 5 work great with me device just like iPhone 4.
Hey guys listen up. It worked for me and I am in USA using the cde-137bt hd. Follow all the direction but when you download the file, download from the Europe website. After that follow everything like the video and it will work

I just keep asking myself one thing: would it be so difficult to find an easier way to upgrade bluetooth Firmware (CDA-137BTi). I , mean, it would surely by harder to make it more difficult. And faulty too. My unit always hangs at the point "...do not touch any key....". I tried by PC (windows 8, although the instructions are made for windows 7) and and by ANDROID, with the same result: failure. I wonder also Alpine didn't have the time to upgrade the instructions for PC's running Windows 8.
My steps for anyone that is still struggling with this: - Right after the disconnect step at 1:45 go into the settings of the Alpine CD Receiver (under Paired devices) showed on the right. - I had two options, using the my device as a phone and using it for media. Just make sure the media box is checked and not one for the phone. I checked the media option box and the bluetooth icon on the radio came on. - I then followed the rest of the steps as showed in the video. Hopefully this can help someone.
Well folks according to Alpine they recommend using windows seven with a laptop with Bluetooth file transfer capability the android phone method only works with the European download
I have followed the instructions perfectly and all my deck is saying is that it's updating don't touch any buttons. Done this 20times now with same result. Any suggestions here would be awesome!!! Thx
Finally after two hours I was ale to get this to update. It would not work using my phone. I ended up using a Windows 7 computer to transfer the file via Bluetooth. Also, the method in this video did not work for me. Also check the PDF included with the firmware update is has a 2nd method which I needed to use in order to update successfully. I experienced all the issues discusses below and finally got it. I would say alpine should switch to updates via USB in the future! I'm not sure I will buy another Alpine product again. I have had some many issues with this head-unit. Sources button not working sometimes. "BT A Pause" when streaming from Pandora on my Android phone ALL the time. Bluetooth stream is not usable like this. I am hoping the firmware fixes this issue.
Wow, that actually worked. a: How long did it take you to figure out this hack? and b: Did Alpine try to make FW updates as difficult as possble? It seems to have fixed some issues, but I am still having the Pause issue with Google Music. Also, the USB won't charge my phone, and my radio reception is terrible. I don't want to waste any more time on this player, so I ordered the Kenwood (hopefully more success). This time function > 90's nostalgia..
I followed Nader Sedaghat's instructions and downloaded from the EU site. Installed fine to CDE- 135BT from Samsung GS 4. Took about 10 minutes. Doesn't recognize voice dialing, even when I scream at it. Receives calls however.
I know this is old, but I need help. Instead of displaying "waiting", my unit displays "code 0000". I suppose that this isn't an error code, but a code displayed for pairing. I have followed all the steps correctly. What could the issue be? Is there another way to do this without using Bluetooth?
Doesn't work for my head unit. I am very displeased with this head unit. It rarely connects and when it does it runs into that pause issue and you have to cycle through all of the sources to get it to work again IF it works. I called Alpine USA customer service and he told me the update was only for Iphones and it had no effect on my android (Galaxy S5). Funny there is an entire process listed by Alpine right here where I am commenting stating otherwise. Either way I asked if there were any other solutions he could think of to make my radio work better with my phone and he said the radio has no issues with android phones in a condescending tone. I will definitely not buy an Alpine head unit again and will likely post a video of me shooting this unit once I get a replacement. To add I had an Iphone 5 before I just got this Android and it had the same exact problems and is the worst radio I have ever owned. I have been telling others of its problems and now I can tell them about the customer service I received as well.
me too I get the enter code and i can't even enter the defaul code 0000 because the alpine unit only has 1-6 numbers....wtf alpine ?! how can i enter the default pairing code 0000 on my alpine 133BT ?!?!?!?!!?
Tried to get the 133BT working with my IPhone but doesn’t work for me as well. Tried to do the update with a Galaxy Tab S2 and with an old Nexus 5. Always stuck in “don’t touch any button”. Definitely not compatible with IPhones. Very frustrating. A hundred euros in the trash bin. Thanks Alpine!
The file doesn´t work. When you try paste the file inside the carpet update (from alpine unit) the file begin download but never finish to paste. I tryed with Win7, later with android and both is the same result... failed.
Tried this, file tranfser stuck at 1.22 mb of 1.75, after two minutes Bluetooth transfer was aborted on my phone with error and now my bluetooth connection doesn't work at all. If i try to enter any menu in BT setup (Bluetooh IN, Pairing, etc) menu just blinks and stays on current level, e.g. it doesn't open next level. I'll change my unit and will try with method described below.
Well, i went to authorised service centre, and after 10 days of waiting, they gave me my unit back with latest firmware installed. Free of charge, as it's on warranty (brand new unit). BUT! I still don't have ID3 tags on unit, when playing MP3 over bluetooth. Anyone has it working?
Said firmware updated, great! Except when I pressed button to continue, afterwards my Bluetooth is completely dead. Won't connect to anything, and none of the menu options work when selected anymore. Good job Alpine, your terrible software and janky update solution killed my radio.
+Matthew stigwood Probably far too late but.... I resolved this same issue by using an older bluetooth device (Samsung S3). I dont think you can update by using a new device. Grab the oldest device you can and try again.
+Matthew stigwood Ouch! Mine sent the file through with no errors but got stuck on that "updating" screen. Turn the car off and it was fine (luckily!) Tried again with S3 and got the same error that is in the Alpine document, however stereo updated after about 2 minutes.

This manual does not work for IVE-W530BT. On this link manualzz.com/doc/17330767/text--ug-bt-update-ive-w530bt-android-en--ug_bt_update_iv... I found a manual that worked for me. I think main difference is that you have to clear device list and pair phone again.

cde-178BT. worst stereo ever bought, had a much cheaper stereo before that worked well, changing to this was a mistake, bluetooth- constantly fails. usb- fails on both usb stick, iphone, android, windows and mac, aux sounds extremely weak even with all the settings maxed out, cd works sometimes, normally it gets stuck on "disc read" or "disc failed" trying to update doesn't work either, all it says is "usb failed" or "update failed"

Make an update with car running. Your battery voltage to low. Got the same problem resolved with running car.

I know this is old, but I need help. Instead of displaying "waiting", my unit displays "code 0000".
I suppose that this isn't an error code, but a code displayed for pairing. I have followed all the steps correctly. What could the issue be? Is there another way to do this without using Bluetooth?

Same problem for me with CDE 134BT. Solved it on second attempt with car engine on. Done using a huawei p20 pro.

Ditto, the file won't get over about 420 KB (of 1.8 MB) then aborts, despite saying transfer successful...
Hi you need before this update use CD-Update. & after that you can use this update & device dont required any pasword.

You might have a newer firmware already which is why it worked for you, not us. I tried it multiple ways. Will avoid Alpine in the future.
