    in 5:35 the bird protecting its nest is a "brazilian"/south america species known as quero-quero or (Vanellus chilensis), they make it's nest in open fields and are very protective, where i live here in brazil they are pretty common, we joke that it's name in english is want-want, because "quero" means "want" in brazilian portuguese, when i was a kid growups told me to not get near its nest unless you want to play with death edit: they don't live just in brazil, south america is accurate, birds dont have country borders

      Those birds are called "tero" over here in Uruguay, another little fun fact is that the male tends to roam around 100-150 meters away fron the nest to bait predators away
      We used to have 2 teros in an open field across the street and they would only scream at people that weren't from around, best security system we had

  • @feynthefallen
    @feynthefallen 29 днів тому +1441

    4:09 That "frog" is a toad, and clinging is part of their mating behavior. They try to grab a female, but since the ratio of males to females is about 5:1, most don't get any. At the height of the mating season, which is only a couple of days each spring, their mating drive is so strong they will cling to anything, fish, water rats, water fowl, other males, even your fingers if you put them on them. The presence of the clinging reflex is actually one of the ways you can tell a male from a young female reliably. Often one female is hooked onto by four or five males at the same time, and a lot of them even drown because they can't reach the surface to breathe any more buried as they are under all their beaus.

    At 1:15, the deer wasn't necessarily dumb. Instead, they tend to be scared of the roads, and will stand by the roadside for a while uncertain whether to cross until something startles them into making a decision.
    Unfortunately for deer, one of the things that can startle them into sudden action is "the lights and sounds of an oncoming car"...

      @@scaereyguy Because there's a bunch of different factors. A possibility is that deer also have evolved a survival strategy to charge at predators in a last-ditch effort to startle/stun them, potentially giving the deer a few extra seconds while escaping. You can see this a lot in newborn fawns, that might unpredictably scream and jump at people who linger too close. Since the car came to a complete stop, in the deer's mind, it worked...

      I WAS BOUTTA COMMENT THAT

    • @thesandman8669
      @thesandman8669 14 днів тому

      @@stupidmangoz That doesn’t fully account for the deer’s natural reactions and behavior. Deer don’t process sights and sounds the way we do, and they don’t “understand” cars or the risk posed by them. Even if a deer moves out of the headlights, it still doesn’t fully grasp what the car is or that it should keep its distance. Instead, it’s likely reacting to the sound of the engine or other unfamiliar noises by freezing or moving erratically.
      When the car gets closer, the deer’s instincts kick in, and it may feel the need to “escape” again-but without a clear idea of where to go. Its reaction to sound, movement, and unfamiliar lights is more about survival than rational decision-making. Deer evolved to respond to predators in unpredictable ways, which can include freezing, darting in random directions, or doubling back. These behaviors may seem counterintuitive to us, but they’re driven by instinct rather than conscious thought. So, it’s less about intelligence and more about biology and instinct.
