    I would agree! Icebreaker is probably my favourite outdoor apparel company for this reason. The quality is superb. I bought my base layer (200) almost 10 years ago and it still looks new. I used it in many many backcountry excursions with varied weather conditions - snow, cold, summer - multi-day backpacking, or even 12 hour long day hikes etc. It has no doubt been exposed to mosquito repellant and sun screen but it is still holding strong! I also don't baby it in the wash as well and mix it in with my regular clothes. To me - merino wool is amazing because it keeps you warm when needed, but also allows you to breath when its hot so I rarely have to change because of this. Love this gear.. :)

    You know it’s good when you get so much use out of it. That’s amazing mate. I’m off to find myself one 😊

    Hey Chris, what a great review and testament to ice breaker quality. I was wondering if another New Zealand company like MacPac would have the same quality as they have a sale at the moment of 30% of for 3 or more items. I am a student so that deal seems attractive.

      Hi there! Unfortunately we don't sell MacPac so it isn't a brand we are familiar with quality-wise. We would recommend finding a store near you that sells MacPac and a store that sells Icebreaker so you can feel the products and try them on to compare :)

    How many days per year? I still didn't try icebreaker but I tried a few others and my experience with 100% merino wool on a true hike is that it doesn't last more than a month before to shred off. I even had a boxer that got holes after 2 weeks.

    I really feel the cold. I'm not going to the snow, just Melbourne in winter. Should I get the 260?

    • @tomsoutdoorsgearguide
      @tomsoutdoorsgearguide  Місяць тому

      That's a hard one to answer as it all comes down to personal preference, what you're doing and what other layers you are wearing e.g. a down jacket over a 260 layer is plenty warm, but a cotton hoody over a 260 is not as efficient.

    is it possible to wear one base layer for straight 10 days?

    • @tomsoutdoorsgearguide

      We don't see why not! It probably will smell a bit funky after 10 days though 🤷

      Yes I’ve done it many times on hunts in the back country. Sometimes I’m out there up to 14 days. But usually around 10 days you will start to smell. But I usually find a water source and rinse it out good and let it dry and it’s good to go!

    Are they still made exactly the same with the same materials?

      Hey there! Icebreaker's base layers are still 100% merino although we aren't sure if they're still made the same way. Our staff all wear icebreaker base layers by choice and couldn't be happier with their performance!
