As a Sikh who grew up in Punjab during KPS Gill era, I can share with confidence that majority of us in Punjab credit him for destroying Punjab, ruining many Punjabi families and finishing a generation of youth from Punjab. Everyone should look up all the work Jaswant Singh Khalra did before he was killed. Side note: google Bajaj Gill case to get broader understanding of Gill’s character.

He was also a convicted sex offender but India scrapes the barrel for its heroes and maybe he is forgiven for those crimes since he murdered so many innocents from a hated minority

This video perfectly summarises the lack of understanding between Punjab and India. While KPS Gill has been tagged as the “The Butcher” in Punjab for killing thousands of innocent sikhs, godi journalists like Shekhar are still portraying him as a super cop. If he would have done his job sincerely and visited Punjab, researched about Shaheed Kharla, he could have gained a better understanding about his true (evil) characteristics.
Gill indeed saved Punjab. He did what had to be done.

KPS Gill was successful but India achieved this victory at a great moral cost. A lot of innocents were also killed along with terrorists, and some very questionable methods were used. In some cases police officers kidnapped the wives of the terrorists and “kept” them until the terrorists surrendered.
War is dirty, and when one is fought against your own people, there is little glory.
Much of these were isolated instances which were highly exaggerated.

You should read about Jaswant Singh Kalra a human rights lawyer who had discovered a full crematorium record of whoever was shot illegally. He was bumped off.

Easiest thing to do is judging someone when you are not in their shoes. Applying today's moral standards to judge someone who lived and worked 30 years ago is neither fair nor it makes any sense. Gill was a controversial cop, who did a lot of right as well as wrong things.When u run a large organisation of young folks who have triggers in their hands, there are going to be innocent who are going to pay price for this. His tactics might not win him a lot of accolades ,but surely he saved an entire generation of adults by putting the fear of God and gun in them and telling them if u raise a weapon against government, you are dead... Sure there could have been better way to curb terrorism, but those exists only in books and seminars given by so called arm chair experts. A lot of bad cops did pay the price for their misdeeds and lot are still fighting their cases in courts. And also lot of bad cops got away without getting any punishment.

Shekar you lost all my respect. I thought you were very neutral about Punjab but by praising this butcher you really lost it . KPS was a butcher of so many things innocent Sikhs that one cannot even count. He may never have killed anyone himself but he had people like Saini and SSP Sandhu do his dirty work. Sikhs have no love for him . Rest of India may treat him like a hero and that is the sad reality. No one was punished for attacking Harmandar Sahib and killing of thousands of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other places and you have the nerve to call him a hero . Shame on you!!!

Mr Gill was a national hero as far as combating terrorism in Punjab was concerned. Sad that the goverment of the day let him slip into oblivion and did not use his service for national security. As far as administration of the Indian Hockey Federation was concerned, he was quite a misfit and didn't live up expectations, to say the least.

Shocking the undeserved adulations and descriptions as these comes from SHEKHAR GUPTA, who is a nationalist and champion of human rights in the dark days of Punjab. The butcher , he was, K.P.S. Gill, was true a good socializer and could stand good level of Spiritual Refreshments. True he was good in Assam, though there were abuses attributed to him. but in Punjab he was extremely brutal. We never earned the goodwill in Punjab with the people. one whole generation of Youth was wiped out. Congress supported him blindly due to Narasimha Rao.
