  • Can use video I should’ve steps and procedures necessary to replace the oil pressure switch and a 3.5 L Ford eco-boost engine. Commonly referred as a oil pressure sensor or oil pressure unit. The particular vehicle I’m working on today is a 2015 Ford F150 King Ranch with but 126,000 miles. And intermittently, we are having an issue where the instrument cluster is telling the driver that there is low to no oil engine pressure. It is important to first manually check the oil pressureWith a gauge to make sure that the engine is in fact making good oil pressure and no harm can be done to the motor.     Thank you so much for this video! I was getting the 'low oil pressure" warning on my 2018 F150 truck and the dealership wanted to do an entire engine swap for $16,500. I had it towed home, read the error code, watched your video, and my truck is completely good again with a $62 part. You rock!

      Dude like that's a huge Era if the dealer tells u need a engine and it's just a bad sensor I hope u got all your money back that u paid for them to tell u the wrong information 💯 there almost needs to be a record video showing for the reason they are saying it needed a engine like a Manual oil pressure gauge screwed into the block and it running showing 0PSI then would be different at 16500$ or I would say if it cost over 10 grand there should be a video u can watch and they have prof of what and why with a test showing !!! That was so wrong to tell u that!! And again I'm not saying u but there is people that say the dealer said 1 thing and they didn't so again got to know the source!!!

      I’m about to change the part right now. Hoping I don’t have to take the 2019 f150 into my appointment tomorrow to see if I need a new engine. Hoping this part saves me that money considering I bought the truck 6 months ago😭

    Used this video as a guide to replace my switch in a 2016 3.5 Ecoboost this week. I took my time and followed the steps and had no issues. A couple of tips, the white hose clamp under the large turbo inlet pipe - put your hand around it squeeze and twist and it will pull off, also the size of the wrench/socket was a 21mm to remove the switch. All of this has to be done from the top if you have 4 wheel drive, you cannot access from the bottom even if you remove the splash guards underneath. Clean any oil that leaked all over the plug and you will be good to go. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2 wheel drive and I was able to get to it from underneath. So much easier from coming up top.

    Changed from underneath. Very easy to reach with removal of the small heat shield/splash guard. Vacuum trick works perfect as well, not one oil drop out while removing sensor and replacing with new. FYI. Didn’t have to remove or work from the top at all. 2015 3.5 Ecoboost.

      That only works for 2 wheel drive. 4x4 has a differential in the way

    Thank you. Looking at it, this was the direction I figured I needed to go but I was thinking I would have to completely remove those intake hoses. Gave me confidence to move forward.

    When I had this intermittent low oil pressure issue I got a new sensor and tried to change it out. When I couldn’t get my wrench wedged in to unscrew the sensor I had to settle for cleaning the plug in for the sensor with carb cleaner. Plugged it back in, put everything back, and the issue went away. New sensor not even needed.

    It good video is a good thing that you mentioned, the value of the pressure, at low idle,. Should be 20 psi or more.. if a great reference video..

    Helpful video. I had hoped to go underneath, but the 4x4 requires the process shown here. It was frustrating but I knew it was possible so I managed. Biggest frustration was figuring the myriad of goofy hose abs tube connections.

    Hi Aaron. What is the procedure to test oil pressure? Im having some possible vct solenoid issues on ny 2011 F150 3.5 with 133k and want to check psi before replacing the solenoids. Im fighting with codes p0017, p0018 and p0019. Thank you.

    Great video. Does a failed pressure switch normally leak oil into the terminal? I just replaced mine with a Motorcraft unit, however the old one wasn’t leaking and had no oil in the terminal end, so wondering if I really fixed the issue. Asking because my low oil pressure came on only intermittently after driving 2 or so hours when stopped at idle. I have driven it for a half hour on the hwy and so far,at idle, it has not gone off.

    Hey, Aaron I’m having the same problem where my gauge cluster is also displaying a LOW OIL PRESSURE. Also when I go to to start the truck on a hot day, the coolant gauge goes directly to H then to L sometimes. When doing this do you think this is the main culprit? Fixing the sensor?

    Hey bubba would this be the same location on a 2017 Raptor? Mine shredded the serpentine belt last week and started throwing low engine oil pressure and no A/C. Replaced the belt and obviously same thing. Ive checked connections and fuses and all seem good.

    Change the plug also! if you have done this before, My sending unit plug was bad, I couldn't tell it was until I pulled out and metered it. I was getting intermitant ohm readings as I moved the wire.

    Hello, good morning. Listen, I’m working in a project with my 2013 F-150, to get rip of the nasty rattle on cold starts; This involves adding a little time delay on the starter, allowing with this, increase the oil pressure on start-ups. Is this possible, using any scanner?. I really appreciate your answer. God bless you !!.

    Hey Aaron. Thanks for the video. I know it’s been a little while since you made it, but I need to replace the oil pressure switch in my 2017 Ford F150 3.5 eco-boost. I’m having trouble figuring out which switch I need for my truck. I believe the one you listed isn’t the correct one for a 2017. Also someone commented that the oil pressure switch should be in that spot through 2016, so does that mean that my oil pressure switch would be somewhere different? Any help you could give me would be very appreciated thank you.

      Snug. Motorcraft senders have thread sealant already on the threads too.

    It’s easy to do took me 15 min to change the switch. You don’t need to take the turbo tube off. Just the top tube and you can get in there with your hand.

    If you drop the skid plate (4 bolts on the bottom) it’s much easier and faster. Got the sensor changed on my 2011 FX2 3.5 in about 6 minutes

      Like he said 2 Wheel Drive you can do from the bottom, but not 4WD.

      Well that stinks. I thought going from the top was the best way, and then I tried to go from underneath after reading this comment took all the skid plates off and lo and behold it cannot be done from Below thanks for wasting my time

    I have done this job from the top before. Pain in the ass. Then I discovered you can take one panel off the bottom and the job will take 15 minutes. I'm guessing Aaron has a 4 wheel drive that might not make this possible. ua-cam.com/video/tZd_DglIP-g/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

    Don't do this. Go from the bottom with one wrench through the access hole lol don't need to remove anything but the sensor itself

    I'm confused by "Motorcraft is a good quality part and hasn't let me down yet". Aren't you REPLACING a Motorcraft part that failed?

      You can get 5 years from a factory part. 90 days for aftermarket

      @@roberthughes2687 that might be accurate in some cases, but it's way off base in others. My F-150's FMC thermostat failed in a mere 3 years. Replaced with SPD and it's well past the 3 year mark. On the other hand it has a factory battery that's approaching the 7 year mark.

      @@airlar4857 in general factory parts last longer than aftermarket, obviously there are exceptions. Kinda like factory wiper blades are usually good for 4-5 years, aftermarket junk you might get a couple of years.
      Car warranties are usually 3-5 years so parts are made to last at least that long in most cases. Aftermarket stuff is guaranteed what 90 days? A year? And even then it's for the part only not the repair cost. Factory parts are covered parts and labor under the warranty period. So while it doesn't always work out that way factory parts are in most cases better than lots of the aftermarket out there.
