  • The Kurayoshi distillery is in the Tottori prefecture, northwest of Kyoto, on the foothills of Mt. Daisen. Is it really a single malt of Japan? Let’s not get hot under the collar, but focus on the whisky itself. Awarded Jim Murray’s 2929 Bible single malt of Japan. Awarded Double Gold at San Francisco Word Spirits Competition 2019. 48%abv matured in exceptionally expensive and complex to use, Mizunara casks (native to Japan).
The design of the bottle label, is stunning, reflecting Katsushika Hokusai’s 36 View of Mout Fuji, detailing red-crowned cranes, native to Japan.
    Tasting Notes:
In simple terms, it is a confused and wonderful whisky. Fruity, yet sour. Smooth, yet dry. Peppery, but honeyed. Let your mouth enjoy the senses.
    Recommendation:
Naked as nature intended for the more mature palette. Splash of water for the less mature palette, adding more than a wee drop to break the confusion and soften the 48%abv.
