No, it's not. This movie was after Yami Yugi and Kaiba's Duelist Kingdom duel in the manga in November 1998. This movie literally uses material from the manga. The prototype Duel Disk and foreshadowing Ultimate Dragon.

@@rashidhumine The thing is Blue is referring to it's eyes, not the dragon itself. The reason it's called "Blue-Eyes WHITE Dragon" is because the dragon is white while it's eyes are blue. It being a blue dragon seem to be a mistake cause by both Konami and NAS hints why the archetype for BEWD is BE because all monsters in this archetype have blue-eyes.
I love how Yugi says, Blue Eyes bring victory and Red-Eyes only brings the potential. Jesus, what a disheartening thing to tell someone. "Hey, that guy over there, he will always do great at what he does. You. You have the potential to do great."
There's something deeply funny to me about Joey's ace monster originally belonging to a character that never made it into the full anime and then being changed to originally belonging to fucking Rex of all people as the one dragon in his dinosaur deck. Oh and then losing it at the star of battle city and not having it for a season and a half. Truely an ace card unique to him.
If there's one thing I'd change for the first show, it would be having Joey pull Red-Eyes from a booster pack, or something. Yugi could comment on how miraculous a pull that was and that is the catalyst for Joey banking on luck cards so much at the start. Rex would instead have Meteor Dragon in this scenario.
When this movie was being produced, the manga was already on the final stretch of Duelist Kingdom, and Rex vs Joey already happened. If anything, this movie is the one with the nonsense change, since it came out *after* Joey got his Red-Eyes from Rex in the manga.
@@jsb6975.ah.crapbaskets I can agree with that, it'd have been cool for Red-Eyes to have been Joey's first major rare card that he pulled. The reason for Joey using luck cards so much from what we see is because he's the most "playing on a budget" of our main cast. Kaiba can just buy the best cards, and Yugi has his grandfather who both owns a game shop and is himself a rare card collector, that's where he got cards like Summoned Skull, Dark Magician, Gaia, Exodia etc. Joey could lean on Yugi & his grandpa more probably and he is definitely supported by them, but he's also prideful and doesn't like being given things he doesn't feel he's earned, so he only has a few rare cards outside the ones he wins or is given like Time Wizard. With the exception of remarkably common powerful cards like Pot of Greed, he doesn't have many strong cards/ combinations aside from whatever he pulls since basically he's not buying singles. This the makes the luck cards appealing, as their high roll effects are remarkably strong with the gamble that you might not get it as a counterbalance. He uses Copycat and Graverobber for similar reasons, since they let him use his opponent's strong cards that he wouldn't normally have access to. Time Wizard is basically Raigeki with a coin flip to decide which side of the field it hits, and the dice multiply so Skull Dice is at worst Shrink but slower which is still good and actually cracked at the high end.
Rex had 2 dragons, Serpent Night Dragon which got destroyed by the Green and Red Battleguards (because reason's). That makes 2 dragons in his dino deck. It's weird though that he and Weavil have really crap cards and aren't very good despite them being know to be "high level" duelists at the time of Duelist Kingdom

Turn 21 details Current standings: Yugi has Meteor Dragon (ATK/1800 DEF/2000) in play and has 800 Life Points remaining. Kaiba has 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons (ATK/4500 DEF/3000) in play along with Wicked Chains (which combined his Blue-Eyes) and Unguard Magic (a Continuous Effect that switches all monsters in Defense position to Attack position) and has 1200 Life Points remaining. Turn 21: Yugi summons Red-Eyes Black Dragon (ATK/2400 DEF/2000) in Attack position. He then activates Polymerization, fusing Red-Eyes with Meteor to form Meteor Black Dragon (ATK/3500 DEF/2000). This cancels out the effect of Wicked Chains, lowering Blue-Eyes' ATK (ATK/4500 → 3000). Meteor Black Dragon attacks and destroys all 3 Blue-Eyes at once (Kaiba LP 1200 → 0). Yugi wins. The difference between Meteor Black Dragon's and Blue-Eyes's ATK is 500. Since Kaiba had 3 Blue-Eyes on the field, he took 1500 damage from Meteor Black Dragon's attack, thus dropping his Life Points to 0.
