I really like this video: Trump talks so much about theory and meta and gets beaten by almost any deck. But I still find the video very entertaining and interesting to watch.
That's because no matter how good you are, no matter how good your cards are, no matter how good your deck is.. most of the time it's still just a coin flip as to whether you win or not. Did you go first or second? Did your opponent pick a deck that directly counters yours? Did you pick the right class to beat them? You can't know or plan for any of that beforehand. His analysis is brilliant, but the game is so random, it doesn't guarantee victory to be good at the game.
@@chaosmastermind this is also a key part of his analysis about how a meta forms. what makes a deck trash is how it fares against the meta as a whole, not whether it counters exactly the deck it queues into for a sample size of 1. plus, some people are playing for fun - i.e. their goal is not to achieve the highest possible winrate, but some other goal (like only countering 1 deck, or playing yogg) - which makes the meta even more unpredictable. and this is a very good representation of how constructed ladder works, or at least how it would work if there were no rank system.
+UmaroXP That actually sounds pretty fun, i tried out a preparation ambush rogue deck that aimed to fill the enemy's hands with ambushes, lost most of the time since of all the iceblock and power word glory decks, but every once in a while your opponent would draw 2-3 ambushes in a row and fill the board, it was a fun deck.
I played a game deck where I couldn't realistically win, but wanted to piss everybody off. Frost nova+ice block and just ping every turn until fatigue.
Same here but I used Lightwell + Power Word Glory. He had mechwarper and mech engineer. He had a full board of taunt/windfury/divine shield mechs but couldn't do a thing

What you are describing is called a gambler's fallacy where you have been pkaying against the same deck over and over so the next one is more likely not to be that deck but that simply isnt how it works. they are independent events what happens in teh last game has no effect on this game.
Eleven Eleven you don't tech cards into a deck as a snap response to one loss, but rather to counter something that's emerging with increasing consistency in the overall meta.
I think trump slowly drawn into madness, he kept saying the same thing over and over "X is the best deck right now,out of 3, but unfortunately this trash deck beats me"

Trump, I think this brawl would have gone so much better if you had just gone in blind and crafted your own decks. Trying to predict the top decks based on Reddit's ideas was a terrible plan and it made it very painful to watch you constantly call something a "trash deck" and then lose to it. At least if you had been playing blind you could have figured out the meta for yourself instead of trusting Reddit.
This is actually an interesting study of the dichotomy of the game state, where winning becomes the primary function thus killing innovation and fun for the sake of winning more.
Actually, as you can see from his opponents there is tons if innovation. It only that he prides himself on finding the most efficient combinations and strategies in the game.

Loved the meta analysis talk, but boy oh boy, did you get owned in the first couple matches :D It happens, and it's random, but it felt a bit ironic after so much wisdom. :) Also played some of your decks pretty bad though (like naturalizing turn 2 when he has 1 drops).

+ZakTryToDive Depends on rng. You need to draw enough iceblocks at the start and enough fireballs when you need them, otherwise you die at some point or can't kill the enemy.
rangedfighter Yeah you should look for a max Iceblocks... Vs mech hunter, bolster warrior you should play Iceblocks starting from turn 3 and fireballs from turn 6/7, if you miss one turn you lose...

Raven Idol & Yogg-Saron is the most fun deck to play in this brawl. Easily casts 2-5 spells per turn early/mid-game, then goes nuts with Yogg late-game.
I understand what Trump is ~trying~ to do. That said, this video makes him sound crazy if you don't have background for all the theory he's throwing out. Hell, he sounds crazy if you do understand the theory.
he doesn't sound crazy at all, this is the most basic of basic stuff if you understand the theory. if anything him calling everything trash is meant to be a simplification for the avg viewer, as opposed to talking about strictly dominated strategies, mixed strategies, etc. a lot of people are just stupid and salty instead of caring about how to think about the game, they think a streamer is god if he wins 10 games in a row and laughs at how bad he is if he loses 10 games in a row, never stopping to use a single brain cell to ask what he did right or wrong.
i gotta say, the fact he totally glosses over mana wyrm and arcane missile is a huge oversight. it is an extremely consistent combo where you will aways have some kind of damage you can do. it can easily run over ice block fireball, demolishes any innervate decks, and naturalize only adds fuel to the fire. however any decks such as vilefin tidecaller and evolve will still overpower it, or any deck that utilizes the taunt mechanic
The only deck I personally enjoy is Innervate/Yog It's random, and I don't even care if It sometimes turns against me. ITS FUN. Unlike playing fucking metadecks.
No, Its because people don't understand what Trump means with "Trash", Them thinking he is arrogant which he clearly isn't if they actually listen to what he is actually saying. People making comments like this " "If I'm not playing it its trash" - Trump " which isn't anywhere close to what Trump is saying, Igronant fools is what most people that hate on this video for trump being "Arrogant".
Pirate rogue was the best deck I found for this. Southsea Deckhand and Ships Cannons allowed you to wreck any deck I played against, beating everything very rapidly with the huge burst damage from the cannons. 2 cannons and 3 deckhands on turn 3 dealt out 12 damage from the cannons secondary alone, (+4 from the cannons attacks) and given time to setup could deal a burst of 30 damage within a single turn.
I don't get why you people get salty about him being cocky. He's coming up with ways to think about the meta constructively. He's also arguably one of the best hearthstone players in the world. I think he's worked to have a bit of an ego.
This brawl was fun at the start then it became cancer on cancer, tb is supposed to be a place where you try silly and fun stuff but it seems everybody is more focused in farming gold with copy pasted decks, just sad
One of the decks that I've seen make a good counter is training dummy-bolster decks which, as long as you have at least 1 bolster by turn 2 gives you a massive board that continues to grow in strength
Forbidden Flame & Annoyotron works well! Against Aggressive: you have taunt and divine (weak agains mechs) Against Fatigue: you can just spend all your Forbidden Flames on any minion for 0 Mana Against Control: Can handle anything really, against hunters with Webspinners too.
Because I'm new and don't have many cards - I just played the Mana Worm + Arcane Missiles combo. I felt horrible, but I also saw how *everyone* out there was devolving into these OP decks that were toxic to the core
coldlight and innervate was my first deck and rarely lost. It destroys iceblock fireball it beats most aggro but the only way to beat certain mechwarper decks was to get a full board on your first turn. With this deck you'd have a full board by turn 1 and empty decks for both by turn 3
+ScarletSpartan Ice Block and Fireball is a personal favorite; Innervate and Chillmaw is just about the best counter to Mechwarper decks, but folds _hard_ to most others.
what beats mech is. frost nova into "mana warm" or snow chugger. thou you must go first. first is a must. snow chugger is slower but helps with weapon based decks.

My personal favorite that went 20-2 over the course of the Brawl was Training Dummy + Bolster. It was generally faster then the Mechwarper X, and mages would run out of Ice blocks in hand. Naturalize just fed it even more.
Oh boy, had no earthly idea I was playing against Trump, but halfway through I looked at the gamertag and I was like "Oh fuck, I just heavily BM'd one of my idols!", but hey after watching him call the deck "trash", all I can say is "Huh." "Thank you!" and you are right it was... (:P)... Seriously though, I feel/felt bad and was secretly praying to get some camera time and oh boy, I did... I was HEARTHST1NED (Seriously, it's a filler name, I hate it, but I am still contemplating brand, so shit that's my name, same goes for this YT name just filler with realllllly bad "art" school projects on it which was mandatory for grading.)... My tag# is #1204, feel free to add me, anyone who is still reading this for no un-old-godly reason.
Animated Armor/Unstable Portal was surprisingly successful. It loses to Mechwarper/Leaper when they draw well, but against anything slower it's not too bad.
It makes you unlucky enough and your opponent lucky enough to que against the one deck it can actually beat like a broken clock being right twice a day
Hearing about the ice block+fireball deck reminded me about my own ice block+portal deck. First game with it was also the first game against an ice block fireball deck. Took a little luck, but I was able to win just because having minions on the board meant I could trigger ice block every turn, while my opponent needed to draw a fireball to trigger my own ice block (at least until he pinged me down to 1), so I was able to win through attrition.
Not one single person playing ice block + fireball correctly, and it's not even hard. 1. You don't just fireblast turn 3, turn 3 is your ice block turn. 2. You mulligan into all the ice blocks, not into fireballs. 3. Use the coin to hit your first fireball + iceblock on turn 6. That's it. I never lost a game against any deck except mill druid following those guidelines, not even against warrior. Some might have been a matter of RNG, sure, but most games are just "I will never lose".

Raven Idol & Yogg-Saron is the most fun deck to play in this brawl. Easily casts 2-5 spells per turn early/mid-game, then goes nuts with Yogg late-game.

I understand what Trump is ~trying~ to do. That said, this video makes him sound crazy if you don't have background for all the theory he's throwing out. Hell, he sounds crazy if you do understand the theory.

he doesn't sound crazy at all, this is the most basic of basic stuff if you understand the theory. if anything him calling everything trash is meant to be a simplification for the avg viewer, as opposed to talking about strictly dominated strategies, mixed strategies, etc. a lot of people are just stupid and salty instead of caring about how to think about the game, they think a streamer is god if he wins 10 games in a row and laughs at how bad he is if he loses 10 games in a row, never stopping to use a single brain cell to ask what he did right or wrong.

i gotta say, the fact he totally glosses over mana wyrm and arcane missile is a huge oversight. it is an extremely consistent combo where you will aways have some kind of damage you can do. it can easily run over ice block fireball, demolishes any innervate decks, and naturalize only adds fuel to the fire. however any decks such as vilefin tidecaller and evolve will still overpower it, or any deck that utilizes the taunt mechanic

Pirate rogue was the best deck I found for this. Southsea Deckhand and Ships Cannons allowed you to wreck any deck I played against, beating everything very rapidly with the huge burst damage from the cannons. 2 cannons and 3 deckhands on turn 3 dealt out 12 damage from the cannons secondary alone, (+4 from the cannons attacks) and given time to setup could deal a burst of 30 damage within a single turn.
Learnt a lot from this Trump Teaching's video. I'll make sure to never listen to his advice whenever he does brawl.

One of the decks that I've seen make a good counter is training dummy-bolster decks which, as long as you have at least 1 bolster by turn 2 gives you a massive board that continues to grow in strength

Against Aggressive: you have taunt and divine (weak agains mechs)
Against Fatigue: you can just spend all your Forbidden Flames on any minion for 0 Mana
Against Control: Can handle anything really, against hunters with Webspinners too.

coldlight and innervate was my first deck and rarely lost. It destroys iceblock fireball it beats most aggro but the only way to beat certain mechwarper decks was to get a full board on your first turn. With this deck you'd have a full board by turn 1 and empty decks for both by turn 3

This brawl is much like paper scissor rocks, where rock beats scissor, and paper beats rock etc.
but there is an additional layer in which rocks have 'strong rock' and 'weak' rocks, weak rock still beat strong scissors but will get beaten by strong rock.
the deck trump calls trash are those 'weak' versions, he still lose due to the nature of the 'trash' deck been an counter to his deck, but still doesn't erase the fact that the deck is 'weak' and is not a dominant strategy (game theory concept), and is in essence a 'trash' deck if you put it into a slang.

I loved Whirlwind + Armorsmith because it would shut down Mages extremely hard and was just fun. Didn't make it a good deck relative to others though.

My personal favorite that went 20-2 over the course of the Brawl was Training Dummy + Bolster. It was generally faster then the Mechwarper X, and mages would run out of Ice blocks in hand. Naturalize just fed it even more.

Animated Armor/Unstable Portal was surprisingly successful. It loses to Mechwarper/Leaper when they draw well, but against anything slower it's not too bad.

Hearing about the ice block+fireball deck reminded me about my own ice block+portal deck. First game with it was also the first game against an ice block fireball deck. Took a little luck, but I was able to win just because having minions on the board meant I could trigger ice block every turn, while my opponent needed to draw a fireball to trigger my own ice block (at least until he pinged me down to 1), so I was able to win through attrition.
Not one single person playing ice block + fireball correctly, and it's not even hard.
1. You don't just fireblast turn 3, turn 3 is your ice block turn.
2. You mulligan into all the ice blocks, not into fireballs.
3. Use the coin to hit your first fireball + iceblock on turn 6.
That's it. I never lost a game against any deck except mill druid following those guidelines, not even against warrior. Some might have been a matter of RNG, sure, but most games are just "I will never lose".
