Start a garden, start a community garden, then start a community co-op/saturday market. Build yourself and others around you up. If we all did that we'd all be more self sufitant and less prone to suffering in that regard. We gotta become like 60s hippies or mormons but the message is self suffiecentce and responsibility, and peaceful trading. It starts with us, ie us, (the individual).

@Jorge yeah it's best to gain as much insight as you possibly can. That's the problem with society these days, people are too quick to come to a conclusion and pin their ideologies to whatever mast they see as appropriate at the time. But we all need to reflect and question whatever loyalties we have, just in case we are seeing things through too tight a lens

He is fighting a ghost, he is fated to fail.
He gave a meaning to a meaningless irrational tendency of today.
For anyone who has read and study the themes he refers too he is only speaking nonsense (if not idiocy), but he construct a story that makes sense of the nonsense today.
A classic fool, he will absolutly fail in his crusade.

I'm 24 and I've never really had a father figure around past the age of 1. I haven't even known of Peterson for more than a year, but since I've discovered him I can scarcely describe what's happened to me intellectually. He's taught me so much about my self... Not complex ideas really .. but that makes it so much more profound.. the simplicity of so much of it. I can't say Peterson is fulfilling the roll of a father for me, because you be truthful, I have no idea what that means. The precisness that I fall into the typical male viewer that he describes is somewhat startling really.. when he was talking about longing for responsibility, it's as thought he were talking specifically to me. Peterson is the north star in a midnight desert of nihilism.

Yeah I relate. I love freedom and my mom is the best, but she's always allowed me to escape responsibility and duty .. so I've come to a realization that I'm hella spoiled and now that I'm 21 I'm desperately trying to be more disciplined bc I know that the lack of responsibility is the only thing that is standing between me and my ambitions. But every time I try to be more disciplined and dutiful I fail (also, I was diagnosed w adhd this year and now I truly realize that my whole existence is basically a recipe for chaos), I have been quite nihilistic for a long time and the whole culture war thing made me question if pursuing higher education is even worth it (especially when I struggle so much in academic institutions w my lack of responsibility). Watching him makes me want to try again every time I fail. God may be dead, but my will is not lol

@@annabellee2703 Well. It’s worth reading up on some church figures like Aquinas and their beliefs, or scholars of other religious belief systems. The good points to gather from theologians broadly is not much different than from better philosophers in history, and that’s at least in part to identify how nihilism has ways of being pretty invasive to human thought and perception. Too much of it is not good, and it robs from motivations that are to aspire towards meaning, and to create meaning. Some awareness of pain and identifying with painful experiences does make sense; but it’s not a good way to encapsulate one’s whole outlook on existence and of being.

This is probably the closest to Nietzsche level we will get in our time. Who else will do it? Duncan Trussel? Theo Von? Rogan was onto something.
But this man has studied hard. Hard as fuck, lol. And it shows. Jung, Dostoyevski, the existentialists, Hitler's Germany, the Simpsons, magic mushrooms, music, whatever art he has hanging in his house, ON and ON. Point me to a man who is this much on it; who takes things one by one out of the realm of the unspeakable. You see how this little party trick took a toll on the man's fucking brain.
He has the intellectual fire that lights your soul. Its meaning. THIS is what you need to criticise when going after Jordan B. Peterson.
This is the most urgent work I'be ever seen him do.
He goes after all institutions we hold valuable. He is ringing a bell as loudly as he bloody can. It is something you need to look at very carefully if you want to enter the public domain, whether that be politics, education, or studentism.
Not because he is right about the things he says per sé, let's be critical first and foremost, but because he attempts to articulate a very complicated social dilemma. And quite frankly, that is relevant for almost everyone. If you can understand my writing, then yes, this is probably very important for you to watch, analyse, however your pretty little brain like to deal with this sort of thing. Lobi.
On the topic of meaning, his daughters name is M.A.P., which I link to Maps of Meaning. Don't know about intention, but hey, its funny. Check out her podcast btw! Absolutely KILLER personality and intelligence. You'll be able to find it with no problem.
Okay, that's enough writing for now. Let's listen again, this time I'm taking notes.

Sometimes what we need is a good father or a drill sergeant, but that is different from "a great mind." Read a bit on the IDEA of pre-modern, modern and post-modern, and then rewatch this.

How many people warned us about today thirty years ago and of those, how many are acknowledged? When the naysayers finally do come around, they pat themselves on the back for being so enlightened to be the only people today to see what is happening and completely ignore the fact that it’s been said for decades.

He doesn't know sh** about what he is talking about. He will not be remembered one second by academics in the philosophy field. The mere thought is ridiculous. It's like a toddler claiming he can explain Hegel with punching in the air. It is that bad.

Jordan B Peterson. I am an undergraduate in philosophy and psychology in Denmark, and I've recently discovered you. You speak with such an intensity, honesty, and a passion which captures the attention of millions. Every word you utter and every sentence that flows out cuts like a razor through the fabric of post-modernism. You inspire me as an academic and a human being. I am grateful for your work and your uncompromising courage. Thank you.
PS. I recently stumbled upon a person who told me that she is drawn to conflicts (lived abroad in a war-conflicted area where she studied), and furthermore in an unrelated topic described herself as a 'black ship' in a world filled with 'personas', so to speak. A seemingly whole and wellbalanced person though. I tentatively concluded she was drawn to chaos, and I wondered how this might relate to some of your ideas about mythology and/or the ideas of Jung? I haven't started digging in the universe of Jung yet, or yours in a sufficient manner, although I am planning on starting reading your 'Maps of Meaning' this summer.

Wishing I had had an influence like this in my younger life. As an American male approaching 40, raised by women and never pushed in the right direction(s), it's quite difficult to course-correct...though I am definitely trying. Being a left-leaning centrist, (that's alt-right, neo-nazi, patriarchal, colonialist oppressor, or so I'm told) I've found myself being more and more at odds with what the "left" promotes, and it's been listening to Dr. Peterson's speeches and lectures that has put it into focus. I might not always agree politically, but I'd rather listen to someone I disagree with that actually makes me think and re-evaluate myself and form actual, coherent reasons WHY I disagree than to be told what I agree and disagree with by some mindless zealots. Trying to get better at cleaning my room.

While I appreciate the comment, I'm a pretty "red-pilled" fellow. I don't see myself becoming more right-wing, if that's what you are implying. It's been more of a realization of what liberal(ism) is, where it comes from, what it actually means etc. I'll still always be more socially liberal than what an actual American conservative would allow for, I think. However, I'm a huge supporter of individual rights and I also see the necessity of having both sides and a strong and active center for things to operate the way they need to. Now, as the radical fringes of the left drag it further to the left, I get more let's say "accusations" of being right wing, though my actual political stances haven't changed all that much over my adult life. Rather, JP has (along with others of differing political leanings) succinctly distilled my overall disapproval with the social justice/feminist movements. I'll also credit him specifically with being the first person in the almost 20 years since I left Christianity to speak of the Bible in a way that is interesting, intuitive and productive. I'll never re-affirm my faith, as it were, but having another angle or lens to view it from outside of the "religion was created to control people" framework has been quite refreshing. Also, I'm having insomnia at the moment so I apologize for the length and "rambling" contained here.

    • @whitepatriarch1708
      @whitepatriarch1708 7 років тому +1

+Sentient Viscera it all depends how you define "right wing". My stance on left VS right is that it's "rights" VS "responsibilities" just like JP said. Now if you put it like that, West has reached the Left pole - every route you take from here is to the right :) West is collapsing because no one wants to take responsibility for anything, all they want is more rights and more stuff. New right (non religious one) doesn't want to take your rights away (negative ones, positive ones need to go) but want you to take responsibilities for yourself and for society so it can continue to provide you with those negative rights. You are only free as much as your surroundings allow you to be free. Individual in Afghanistan is not free at all, by Western standards. We need to defend our civilization so we and our children can remain free, by Western standards. No other civilization will grant us that, Islamic one least of all.

    Mr Peterson:
I'm French, I can confirm that postmodernism is exactly as you described it, and has very deep, far reaching consequences on a society's make up. The suffering it causes, and the callousness of its supporters simply reduces individuals as a means to an end.
Critically important is to understand how such nefarious ideology sips into every layer of a well meaning-society. It targets the family nucleus, first with children through prolonged, slow indoctrination, turning them against their parents, whenever this fits a political agenda. At some point, parents are forcibly stripped from their primary educational responsibilities, either by law, or by conceding *willingly*.
I am not sure how this will unravel in Canada, but be sure they will find a way to legally remove children from their parents, on a motive they will claim is abuse. Once this happens, their grip on society becomes almost impossible to counter.
As you pointed out, and looking back to what happened to France, and what's taking place in the U.K. and Germany, the first step is to tie scholarships in social science to the number of students who actually find a job. It's a mafia, go for the money, so they can't build an army of radicals leaving on tax payers ' expense.
The second step, is to never consider postmodernism as a battle between right and wrong, or ideas. It's an authoritarian power grab. That is its nature, its reason for being. Discussion is pointless.
The last step, is to call out on conservatives and sternly remind them what their primary duty is: fight, because it is a fight, for those individual rights that are freedom of speech, and private property, two fundamental rights upon which all freedoms depend. *Until everyone is a free man, no one is free* is the reason slavery was abolished by conservatives, not by leftists.
If all else fail, the law (or what's left of it) is what can protect against abuse of power, Conservatives must unite, and fund litigation whenever and wherever individual rights are abused. It's not the habit of conservatives to act as grassroots activists, but there is no other choice.
Today, as the French have elected a new president, state of emergency laws in place since 2015, and curtailing freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, which were meant to last for a limited time, will soon be part of the French penal code.
If the bill passes, someone's home can be searched without warrant, freedom can be curtailed without the supervision of a judge, and an individual can be placed under arrest without indictment.
I understand few of you can believe it, but remember this, they will go for the most fragile, most vulnerable first. Slow, pervasive child indoctrination.
    Good luck.

Thats a great statement about socialism's heart being in the right place. The people that support socialism only see the helpful inclusive side of it. That's why saying socialism is evil will never convince them to change their mind. Honestly though I dont think the ideas of socialism are evil or dangerous themselves. If you think about it families work on the ideas of socialism. The thing that gets dangerous with socialism is the centralized authority. The real evil in any system is centralized authority, if the world is going to be saved its centralized authority that we must defeat.

Leftist are into socialism because of "feel good" emotions it brings with it in the first place, you can't convince them otherwise. But what you can do is to ask "What works?". Socialism doesn't work. Feminism doesn't work. Totalitarianism doesn't work. Social justice doesn't work. EGALITARIANISM DOESN'T WORK. Only thing that works is meritocracy, proven over and over again. It maybe doesn't "feel" right but it sure as hell works and brings benefits to EVERYONE, even the poorest slob amongst us. they have nothing in common indeed. postmodernism by its nature is not an ideology...marxism isn't necessarily either but, obviously, few marxists utilise the theory without a socialist motive. and people who apply postmodernism aren't brains jars but people with their own values and political motives.
marxism is, roughly, a methodology, a way of analysing history, the present and likely future through the lens of class conflict. postmodernism, deconstructionism, poststructuralism - these are methods of analysing and dissecting every aspect of society from everyday speech to literature and institutions to uncover the meanings and power dynamics behind - and enforced by - them that are often overlooked or difficult to even notice. this is often useful and necesssary but sometimes there is a paranoia, an overdoing it, interpreting social-constructs in human universals, dismissing truth as a thing at all and attributing perceived truth merely to racial or class gaze, cynicism toward justice as just one group getting one-up on the rest. they're not the same thing but, clearly, postmodernist analysis is essential to deconstructing capitalist and patriarchal structures - they don't have to be. i could apply a postmodernist analysis to say how "trans women are women" is merely an expression of sympathy or pity utilising the language of truth ("are") and concepts ("women" as an actual definable if imperfect concept and not obscure "whatever this individual says it means to them" fluid to the point of nothingness) which those spouting such slogans don't really value.
but yeah marxists and left-wingers generally apply postmodernism, sometimes accurately, sometimes recklessly, excessively and often distorting whatever postmodernist theory they're using.
it's not true to say that when people use "white male" as a way to dismiss one's argument by saying you have no grasp of truth but only vested interest, or that "white privilege" stands as an interminable barrier in understanding racial politics...that postmodernist theory isn't being applied. and certainly when people use the term "social construct" as if it's an argument against believing in a thing at all? this comes from dumb people who've been spoonfed postmodernism yeah, so it's not an indictment against foucault himself...

Jordan B Peterson I couldn't stand my ground. I didn't know enough. I managed to provide evidence of the wage gap being irrelevant. I probably should have prepared before hand. It didn't really matter though because they didn't want to argue. All 5 of them (my principle, my history teacher, my school counselor and both of my parents were against me.) they asked where i got the idea that feminism wasn't necessary in the US today. It was really sad. I think my parents realized they didn't know Me as much as they though they did. It was definitely weird for them. I'm not exactly sure how to explain it. Almost like they now thought the oppressors brain washed me? I really fell because I didn't know enough. I need to read more. It's the last day of school tomorrow. It was long. So much virtue signaling. I remember my history teacher telling my parents that I said that men were of more value than women in class. When in reality I just said said that they get paid more on average compared to womenbecause they work higher paying jobs and they work more! I'm only on middle school. I'm going to high-school next year. A different one. Hopefully it's better there. Man this is messy. I'm tired I'm sorry. They couldn't do anything punishment wise because tomorrow (Friday) is the last day. I think i said that earlier. But it's almost scarier.if they don't define the punishment they can do something later as punishment when I don't expect it. And then it might not stop at that because it was never set to define after a certain amount. But now my parents seem really disappointed. I don't know what to do. I might edit this later when I'm more awake and sane. I imagine that's like a mild version of drunk texting. Anyway I also have a doublethink problem that I need to sort out.

Take it back the student organizations from the insanity driven PC culture. pressure your school's paper to publish articles supporting the kind of thing peterson is talking about. Jordan is a great speaker, and at face value, everything he says seems to have a logical base. I would highly recommend that you not only read what Jordan recommends but also the literature he is criticising. While critical of a certain agenda and philosophical base Jordan definitely has his own agenda and philosophical base he is influenced by so it's important that to get a holistic point of view of these issues that you get varied opinions.
Educate yourself, and don't take everything Jordan Peterson says as fact, question everything.

It's amazing how many people an academic can reach, influence & inspire when they talk about salient issues whilst proposing solutions & promoting individual empowerment. Peterson stands in such contrast to all the people he criticises, not simply because he is critical of them, but because he is truthful & needn't distort reality, appeal to base emotions or preach collective shaming to bring people around to his point of view.

I find it ironic that Professor Peterson rightly criticizes postmodernists for being unwilling to tolerate contrary dialogue while simultaneously arguing that postmodernism should be stricken from public discourse because it is too dangerous to be taught. I also find it a bit amusing that such an obviously brilliant man does not see this fact for himself.

Eve davis No he doesn't. He believes in the power of the influence God has in our culture's structure, and the effect that influence has on people whether they believe in Him or not. He believes in God as a symbol, not a being. Basically the culmination of what humans have accumulated as truth over our existence. He thinks of it as an unfinished and ongoing collection also. That's a summary of what I've heard him say. Though an answer from him would be more precise.

I'd argue that the most important part of being a part of a community is the difference between choosing to and being conscripted to. His rejection of group identity doesn't seems to be a rejection of interest groups pushing their agendas, but of reducing people to what ultimately ammounts to a tiny fragment of who they are, be it sex, race, political affiliation or what have you. For people who embrace an enforced group identity, the only group you're allowed to leave is that of people who disagree with you. Used to be, before we started looking at the world like politicians, seeing only voter blocks, in the long distant past pre social networks, we were be able to have friends and family members we disagreed with, instead of purging our feeds of dissidents every election cycle

Probably almost no one watching this has any idea how completely Peterson misrepresents his subject. Literally everything he presents as fact is straight up false. Marxism and postmodernism are NOT the same. Postmodernism isn’t a belief system. Postmodernists don’t all think the same thing. Put aside Peterson’s beliefs and values, which may or may not be good, helpful, whatever. His scholarship is truly deplorable.

Really awesome! It's amazing how you lay every detail out simply and efficiently in a way that utilizes an empirical approach really cool to see someone realize the common sense approach of the Bible's moral code and values which honestly cannot be disparaged and is not matched by any so called religion! Christianity is not a religion it is the way of life and God does not and will not force us to do anything we make our own choices in which good and evil play an important role as we clash with finding ourselves and the pressures of society one can clearly see the effect that love has and champions over fear these things people need for their minds where would crime be if one had the understanding that through love anything is possible in the light you can be your highest potential there is no power in fear it is nothing and in fact caused by ones deep understanding of nothing for we all fear what we don't understand of course a healthy dose of fear for God ( for he is the only thing you should ever fear in which we find peace that nothing else could bring darkness) is a different kind of fear it's an understanding we don't get as humans that fear of the unknown is a corruption of the heart when we desire to not trust ourselves in turn bringing dissasosiative tendencies to fruit am unwillingness to create no some of us become destroyers only enlightenment can cure for through it we can only see from God who designed this a limitless dimension based in our reality a cause conformed by our choices for without our freedom to choose there is no life...

You can add Geography to the list of programs that has fallen to this postmodernist, poststructuralist, neo-marxist cancer of academia. I'm stuck in it right now (just one more year), but it is a slog. I receive barely-passing marks no matter the amount of evidence I provide within my assignments. Apparently what I have to say doesn't fit the ideological slant of the profs and their minions... I mean TAs. It's an outrage.

I know how you feel, I studied Geography from 2007 to 2011 and I really was stuck into ideological battles with more then half of my profs.. I even got ill while doing so and hat to quit because of this (spinal prolapse..couldn´t bear my cross anymore). Ten years ago, nearly no one believed in the necessity of what I was doing (not even my friends), because I was the only one who stood up against those postmodernist scumbag UN backed ideologue Professors which couldn´t wait to see the planet burn while talking us all into enslavement (But how dare me criticising their holyness).
