I thought I would hate the no buttons but took me a day to get used to & now I could never go back, the luxury feel of no buttons is great, these gen 4 motors are on another level
I feel you on the MK8 and the associated Esthetics (ie lack of physical buttons) . And for although they now come with more power there is just something off about the exterior of that new gen. Still think our 7.5 and 7's are the best looking Golf's of all time with the MK6 and MK1 right behind it. My current will be the last VW I own. Going to BMW or Audi next. .
I have a mk7.5 R and LOVE IT!!! Butttttttt the even tho I hate the interior of the mk8 the powertrain is awesome simple stage 2 tunes are hitting about 500HP is wild and so awesome makes me want to get one as well
I kinda like the bubbly look of the Mk6 and how the hood accentuates the headlights making it higher than the center of the hood. Gives the front end that mean look, while the MK7 has the hood hump like all other car brands.

Cool have a Stage 1 GTI Clubsport MK7 with CJXE same engine! Just wanted to recomend MOTUL DTCF high torque oil for your DSG6 speed, if you have it! Makes gearbox feel soo smoth compared to stock! 👍

Coming from a genesis 3.8 (believe me I know hard buttons)🤣 you get used to the (haptic like) feedback very very quick I don’t even notice it’s there. I got the S trim due to me not needing the sunroof& it was the only trim that came with a volume and tune knob (se & autobahn trims come with touch sliders for volume/ stereo control)
