    Thanks for the idea of using silk thread on the heavily stitched quilt designs and changing tension settings to balance stitches. Great tutorial.

    Thank you, Gayle. I sure do enjoy your videos. I purchased my first Bernina (590) about a month ago and am still learning all of the things it can do. I love the idea of being able to quilt using the embroidery motifs. I think I'll play around with it by doing some mini quilts. By the way, thank you for also giving tips on type of thread to use and different adjustments.

    What weight thread are you using in the first quilting in the hoop example with purple and pink thread?

  • @tatyanasurenyan-krech6372
    @tatyanasurenyan-krech6372 2 роки тому

    I tried this without stabilizer and my whole machine got tangled and the thread was caught in the bobbin. When I used a stabilizer, it worked perfectly but I used the tear away a d there is still stabilizer on the back. Im wondering if I should have used that fine thread. I also forgot to set the tension to 4.5. Is that superior thread brand?

    Thank you for all of your amazing video tutorials. Question regarding aligning multiple rows of design on a quilt. I am using design number 17 on a Bernina 790 Plus. Similar to the design you use here, but it has a start and end for connecting multiple rows. My quilt top is 43 3/4” square, and the quilt design (I combined 3 of the individual designs), is now about 5 3/8” x 15”. How should I go about spacing these and laying them out to cover the top? If I start with my first hooping straight down the center, I end up with a few inches blank on each edge. Many thanks for any suggestions

    • @BERNINAofNaperville
      @BERNINAofNaperville  Рік тому +1

      Don’t try to think about the math. Once you’re u do a row, do the next row next to it. I don’t worry about centering the design because at the end of the day quilting is all about adding texture.

    I would love to see this done with a twin or larger quilt. I just find it would be bulky. And how would the slider move?

    • @BERNINAofNaperville
      @BERNINAofNaperville  3 роки тому +3

      Well, on a twin size you definitely need to use thin batting and prop your quilt up with any table or support you can find. We are currently working on doing an edge to edge in hoop quilting video.

    I am new to hooping. Can I hoop a large quilt? Can I put in a design in the middle and then quilt around the design? For example, have a horse centered and then quilt around the horse using a hoop?

    • @BERNINAofNaperville
      @BERNINAofNaperville  4 роки тому

      Teri Gibson yes to all of these things. However, by having a horse in the middle and then quilting around it, if it’s a horse fabric and you want to quilt around it, the BERNINA Stitch regulator would be your best bet. Start easy. Quilt using quilting motif embroideries, see how that goes and then experience my combining techniques.

    What stabilizer are you using in the 1st demo and why did you not use stabilizer in the 2nd demo

    • @BERNINAofNaperville
      @BERNINAofNaperville  3 роки тому +1

      In the first demo, I’m using stabilstick tear a way to show what you would use if you didn’t want to try to squeeze the quilt sandwhich in the hoop. In the second demo, I used no stabilizer to show how you can quilt in the hoop with out any stabilizer.

  • @lifestylesew
    @lifestylesew Рік тому

    Interesting, I watch you all the time and love it. You have stabiliser on the back, was it washer a way, if not it is going to show like most embroidery. If I use hooping for quilting, I want to see no stabiliser as its a quilt, people are going to see it. What do you do when you quilt a large piece not just a small piece. How about edge to edge quilting for a large quilt, that is the challenge that most people would like to know how you can achieve that, demonstrating with a large quilt, cant use backing for that. This is not meant to be a negative post, just a question, ok. Thanks G

    • @BERNINAofNaperville
      @BERNINAofNaperville  Рік тому

      Thank you for watching and for your comment. Like I said in the video, it’s aquamesh stabilizer. It washes away. You would not want to have the stabilizer showing on you quilt. Perhaps this video will answer your other questions.

    How do you know proper thread weight to use? Different threads seems like a lot for this vintage person to have to learn.

    • @BERNINAofNaperville
      @BERNINAofNaperville  2 роки тому +1

      There’s no right of wrong. But some of the designs in the machine for quilting are made a triple torch. For those I use a thin weight like the 100wt silk thread I used in the video. If it is single stitch I use a 50wt.
