Something that WAS kept in the game is chris Benoit Crossface. Apperently he had 2 new versions that were made hidden and couldn't be accessed. One of them wouldn't be in the game until SvR 2011 and that version is still in the game to this day. So technically his crossface from svr 2008 is still in wwe 2k20
It had the right ideas, but lacked in execution that pretty much resulted in it being too realistic for the fans who preferred the more arcade style of the Smackdown era and 06/07. Simulation wise, it provides the most accurate wrestling game that albeit hinders move sets for each character, makes learning the controls, strengths and weaknesses of each style worth it if you dedicate enough time.
This was the first WWE game I worked on. I started at THQ late summer of 2007. I’m sure the game’s storyline writer penned Dreamer as ECW GM. WWE likely didn’t have much to do with it. It had to be written around beginning of 2007 at the latest. Vince at one point wanted ECW to have equal billing.

That was always my main problem with this game. The roster was so dull, which boils down to a lot a big names not being there. Angle was gone, Christian was gone, Big Show didn't return until No Way Out the next year, Jericho didn't return until December, Benoit....moving on, and guys like RVD, Eddie, London, Kendrick, Shelton, Haas, Holly, etc. This game sorely needed DLC to at least make up for the lack of names.

When I was a kid I had a lot of hype for the inclusion of ECW in the game, but in the end the ecw roster was very small, at least they must have put the full members of the New breed stable in the game

Bob Holly was in the game as an exclusive for a non Sony console which is unfortunate. It would've been better if we had more wrestlers and mid carders for GM Mode in all versions

I have a early build on svr 2008 where Benoit was still in the game. Benoit, HHH and undertakers models were unchanged from 2007 to 2008 since this was the first game with next gen graphics. So thq were only updating new people who were not in the game or if there models were extremely old.

In my opinion, SVR 08 and 09 were the weakest or even the black sheep of the main WWE games. Yes, 08 had GM Mode but I thought the roster was weak and the 24/7 mode was boring and repetitive. As for 09, the roster was slightly better and the tag teams got tweaked but there weren't as much features and the road to Wrestlemania should've been a little longer instead of three months in game time.
SVR 2008 is missing basically every ECW Superstar and the majority of the Tag Team division on all brands. SVR 2007, SVR 2010, SVR 2011, WWE’12, WWE’13, WWE2K14, and WWE2K19 are the all around best WWE Games imo. SVR 2007 had a great roster and was the last time we saw Kurt Angle, RVD, and Chris Benoit for a long time. SVR 2008 is just missing so much stuff that made 2007 a great year. The roster and gameplay was horrendously watered down and bare. They didn’t even have Kendrick, London, The Miz, or Deuce and Domino. Hell, there are literal Superstars like Kevin Thorne who is in the main menu show opening, but not in the game. I would say I enjoyed it slightly more than SVR 2009, but it really is a bad game with limited move-sets and rosters. The soundtrack was really good though.
Another very very very secret Easter egg with this game It's only available on the PS3 version.by hitting r1 on your six-axis controller you can go into first-person view mode during any wrestlers entrance and control the camera by moving the controller.
That's what I hated the most, removing Chris Benoit. Should've just claimed it was too late to remove him, and donate some money to his family. They knew fans would want to still play as him to recreate the 2006-07 PPVs and should've left him in. Same with RVD should've been included, as he was around until June 2007.
Sabu was gone before RVD was and he was in the game. The only thing I can think of to as why RVD wasn't in the game is cause he didn't want to be. So many people missing

I didn't really notice as I was finally able to play as Jeff Hardy, as the only games I had were the previous 3 SmackDown vs Raw games.

I still remember two daft things about GM Mode in this one. ECW no matter how highly rated your shows were, you'd lose. And even when i managed to get it to have the top ratings, it'd be Raw that'd win the year. And if u were raw or Smackdown, it was always the opposite brand that'd 'win' despite the ratings. SvR 2008's fighting style mechanic had overpowered combinations, example being Technical/Submission. The Technical fighting style allowed you to automatically counter all strong grapple attempts if your wrestler wasn't hurt. The Submission fighting style passively healed you if you were wrenching a submission hold, meaning if you comboed this with the Technical style, you will always heal yourself during a match, even if you were injured in 24/7 mode
The roster was TRASH. I know we couldn't have Benoit and Angle. But where was M.N.M, Deuce N Domino, Jamie Noble, Eddie Guerrero (across ALL platforms) Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, London and Kendrick ? Randy Orton looked outdated af. Same model and attire as SVR 07 & Day Of Reckoning 2 but with a new back tattoo. Like...make his tights logos blue, purple or something. The fighting styles were trash imo. Out of all the SVR games this was my least favorite.

This game is ok fighting styles made superstars unique but roster was small I have to admit but you could create superstars to make it seem full 24/7 carrer mode was repetitive after a bit as you could only go after the WWE championship or the world heavyweight championship although you could win the ECW or the hardcore title however this quickly gets forgotten you even unlock a replica ECW championship which you never see again, removed locker room customisation only good things were GM mode and hall of fame mode plus exhibition as you could do Extreme rules matches. With ECW you had Marcus cor von, CM punk, ellijah Burke, Sabu, Tommy dreamer, sandman although he was assigned to Raw on exhibition, Terry funk there's 8 or 10 ECW superstars it doesn't help in GM mode you could only draft or gave 20 superstars on your Roster at once you had to spam trophy dates while saving your money making sure no leaves and jumps ship only let people go from your contracts if there injured.
I'll forever hate this game for not having RVD in it. I was so excited to do RVD & Sabu vs. The Hardys. Makes no sense they didn't include him especially since Sabu was in & RVD left months AFTER Sabu was released.
I really hate that they removed Benoit and because of that they had to change judgment day, vengeance and the one night stand events to the 2006 versions instead of 2007, and the 24/7 mode was heavily repetitive since they had to remove all of Benoit’s cutscenes. It’s such a shame that for me, this could’ve been not only the greatest SVR game of all time but the greatest wrestling game of all time as it has ECW legends, great soundtrack, and awesome new mechanics in my eyes. But as of now, we have to live in a world where to many this is the worst game in the SVR series to due to how small it feels
This should’ve been Smackdown vs Raw Vs ECW but then again ECW’s roster has so few superstars! They have 10 or 8 characters there hell sandman is on raw! You can’t even be in the ECW roster is season mode which I wanted to but my character just continues to bury ECW whenever he talks about it. Big Show was taken out cuz he left in February 2007. Big Daddy V was in the game. But other than that you're completely right. They showed intros of ECW superstars, most of whom weren't even in the game.
I also did that too it was so fun. mostly I did on Shane for betraying me and for sending Randy and Edge hitting me with a chair. Man, I truly wish we can start the game with a bloody face but our face gets cleaned in beginning of the match (as well in cutscenes)
i've had this game before and completed season mode but after it got slightly boring for me, no matter which superstar you play with it's the same story-line which was a complete let down.
yeah i gotta agree with you on that one as even SvR ('04) wasn't that good either, then from '09 onwards it's all about "The Road To WrestleMania" crap.
I remember starting the season mode expecting a similar experience to svr 2007 but with an updated roster and new storylines. Instead i got constantly repetitive cutscenes and absurd matches. I hated the wrestlemania match against mcmahon.
First thing that comes to mind is Sharmells face in the creation templates and Ariel's entrance, I'm sure she was supposed to be in but replaced by Kelly Kelly when she was released.
I remember having this on PSP, PS3 and DS. Funny you mentioned the mobile version as I also had that. It plays like the old GBA wrestling games. The 2009 mobile version even had a story mode where you could decide to quit even before you reach the Hall of Fame status. Granted, it’s just a bunch of matches with ratings by the end of the bout.

SvR 2008 was the first wrestling game I ever played and it was what led me to discover wrestling WWE. When I was a kid, I was at a relative's house and I happened to stumble upon them playing SvR 2008 on PS2. At that point, I didn't know anything about WWE. I ended up playing a couple of matches as well, and it led me to want to get the game for myself. Fast forward to a couple of months later, I went to pick up my dad at a truck yard, as he was a truck driver at the time, and my dad had surprised me with SvR 2008. I was so shocked. I was like wow what are the chances? If I hadn't discovered SvR 2008. I probably wouldn't have gotten into WWE.
I agree. 08 had the weakest and bland songs in the soundtrack out of all the games. The previous games had such bangers but then this game played those songs too much and 09 and 10 used wrestlers theme songs included.

SvR 08 was not a great game but it wasn't a bad game either, I had allot of fun playing it back in the day. and I still play it from time to time It certainly doesn't deserve to be shit on. To me the most overlooked feature was the create a championship. Those created Championships looked like they were included with the game upon purchase. Also it was the first WWE game to feature the WCW Championship. as far as I know. and at the time I thought that that was pretty awesome.
It never should of been removed they could of kept it the same as 2008 with some minor tweaks remove single branded pay per views and put 12 matches on pay per cards so each brand gets 4 matches, each brand has a elimination Chamber match at no way out or can put there superstars in other brands chambers and take the other world championships GMs for svr 2009 Raw Shane or Stephanie, smackdown Vickie Guerrero, ECW Teddy long, svr 2010 Raw Vickie Guerrero, smackdown Teddy long, ECW Tiffany ect

The modern day GM Mode is called MyGM, there is an ECW branded DLC for 2K24 called the ECW Punk Pack which features; The Dudley Boyz, The Sandman, Terry Funk and CM Punk (who was won the brand version of the ECW Championship in September 2007 defeating John Morrision in a Last Chance match for the title and would still be the champion by the time SVR08 was released in November)
I ordered this game on ebay I should be getting it on the 5th or 6th and I’m excited to play GM Mode the ECW brand may be difficult if you’re trying to beat Raw or Smackdown but I’m going to make Umaga the monster heel of the brand and CM Punk the conquering baby-face

I know this game gets bashed on but this is my favorite one in the whole series. Was my first wwe game with a bunch of sick modes and the roster I grew up on (exception of guys like Kurt angle) and the soundtrackk. Even The graphics are better here than 2k14

My biggest problem with 2008 was the classes moveset. I liked the different styles, but sucked when certain moves were locked behind a certain style.
Made creating Jericho problematic as some was showman, technical, submission and high flyer

I have a early build on svr 2008 where Benoit was still in the game. Benoit, HHH and undertakers models were unchanged from 2007 to 2008 since this was the first game with next gen graphics. So thq were only updating new people who were not in the game or if there models were extremely old.

In my opinion, SVR 08 and 09 were the weakest or even the black sheep of the main WWE games. Yes, 08 had GM Mode but I thought the roster was weak and the 24/7 mode was boring and repetitive. As for 09, the roster was slightly better and the tag teams got tweaked but there weren't as much features and the road to Wrestlemania should've been a little longer instead of three months in game time.
SVR 2008 is missing basically every ECW Superstar and the majority of the Tag Team division on all brands. SVR 2007, SVR 2010, SVR 2011, WWE’12, WWE’13, WWE2K14, and WWE2K19 are the all around best WWE Games imo. SVR 2007 had a great roster and was the last time we saw Kurt Angle, RVD, and Chris Benoit for a long time. SVR 2008 is just missing so much stuff that made 2007 a great year. The roster and gameplay was horrendously watered down and bare. They didn’t even have Kendrick, London, The Miz, or Deuce and Domino. Hell, there are literal Superstars like Kevin Thorne who is in the main menu show opening, but not in the game. I would say I enjoyed it slightly more than SVR 2009, but it really is a bad game with limited move-sets and rosters. The soundtrack was really good though.

Another very very very secret Easter egg with this game It's only available on the PS3 version.by hitting r1 on your six-axis controller you can go into first-person view mode during any wrestlers entrance and control the camera by moving the controller.

That's what I hated the most, removing Chris Benoit. Should've just claimed it was too late to remove him, and donate some money to his family. They knew fans would want to still play as him to recreate the 2006-07 PPVs and should've left him in. Same with RVD should've been included, as he was around until June 2007.
Sabu was gone before RVD was and he was in the game. The only thing I can think of to as why RVD wasn't in the game is cause he didn't want to be. So many people missing
@@Venemofthe888 we'll never know. No clue if they get paid to be in it, and I don't think anyone would blatantly ask out (he left on good terms). It's never all the SuperStars, which sucks. I didn't really notice as I was finally able to play as Jeff Hardy, as the only games I had were the previous 3 SmackDown vs Raw games.
Taking out Benoit was understandable but they could have at least, kept some of his moves in.

I still remember two daft things about GM Mode in this one. ECW no matter how highly rated your shows were, you'd lose. And even when i managed to get it to have the top ratings, it'd be Raw that'd win the year. And if u were raw or Smackdown, it was always the opposite brand that'd 'win' despite the ratings. How bugged was my copy?!😂😂
I did 3 runs in RAW and ECW won all 3. 2 runs in ECW and in the first Smackdown and the second RAW. In my Smackdown run RAW won.

SvR 2008's fighting style mechanic had overpowered combinations, example being Technical/Submission.
The Technical fighting style allowed you to automatically counter all strong grapple attempts if your wrestler wasn't hurt.
The Submission fighting style passively healed you if you were wrenching a submission hold, meaning if you comboed this with the Technical style, you will always heal yourself during a match, even if you were injured in 24/7 mode
Submission style is why Finlay had an advantage over anyone.
Also that combination is why Bret Hart was OP.

The fighting styles were trash imo. Out of all the SVR games this was my least favorite.

This game is ok fighting styles made superstars unique but roster was small I have to admit but you could create superstars to make it seem full 24/7 carrer mode was repetitive after a bit as you could only go after the WWE championship or the world heavyweight championship although you could win the ECW or the hardcore title however this quickly gets forgotten you even unlock a replica ECW championship which you never see again, removed locker room customisation only good things were GM mode and hall of fame mode plus exhibition as you could do Extreme rules matches. With ECW you had Marcus cor von, CM punk, ellijah Burke, Sabu, Tommy dreamer, sandman although he was assigned to Raw on exhibition, Terry funk there's 8 or 10 ECW superstars it doesn't help in GM mode you could only draft or gave 20 superstars on your Roster at once you had to spam trophy dates while saving your money making sure no leaves and jumps ship only let people go from your contracts if there injured.

I'll forever hate this game for not having RVD in it. I was so excited to do RVD & Sabu vs. The Hardys. Makes no sense they didn't include him especially since Sabu was in & RVD left months AFTER Sabu was released.
I hate how they didn't bother giving eddie guerrero his own theme music in the game, that never made sense to me

I really hate that they removed Benoit and because of that they had to change judgment day, vengeance and the one night stand events to the 2006 versions instead of 2007, and the 24/7 mode was heavily repetitive since they had to remove all of Benoit’s cutscenes. It’s such a shame that for me, this could’ve been not only the greatest SVR game of all time but the greatest wrestling game of all time as it has ECW legends, great soundtrack, and awesome new mechanics in my eyes. But as of now, we have to live in a world where to many this is the worst game in the SVR series to due to how small it feels

This should’ve been Smackdown vs Raw Vs ECW but then again ECW’s roster has so few superstars! They have 10 or 8 characters there hell sandman is on raw! This game shouldn’t have been so bad, the 24/7 season mode is awful and repetitive with minor tweaks if you go to smackdown but damn! You can’t even be in the ECW roster is season mode which I wanted to but my character just continues to bury ECW whenever he talks about it. You can tell ECW wasn’t gonna last long if even in their 360 debut they have less people on their roster and get buried in season mode! They TWO storylines in season mode! TWO! What’s funny is that in the menu you see every brand’s intro and you see characters in the ECW intro that aren’t in the game! Matt Striker, Layla, Brooke, Big daddy v, Kevin Thorn, Ariel, balls mahoney, I think Shannon Moore was in ECW in 2008 hell Big Show was taken out too! The fuck!?
Big Show was taken out cuz he left in February 2007. Big Daddy V was in the game. But other than that you're completely right. They showed intros of ECW superstars, most of whom weren't even in the game.

This was by far my favorite game as a kid, going over the barrier and breaking a monitor on my opponents head or shocking them on electric equipment
I also did that too it was so fun. mostly I did on Shane for betraying me and for sending Randy and Edge hitting me with a chair. Man, I truly wish we can start the game with a bloody face but our face gets cleaned in beginning of the match (as well in cutscenes)
i've had this game before and completed season mode but after it got slightly boring for me, no matter which superstar you play with it's the same story-line which was a complete let down.
I know that shit used to piss me off. SVR 06 had the best story mode in the SVR era.

I remember starting the season mode expecting a similar experience to svr 2007 but with an updated roster and new storylines. Instead i got constantly repetitive cutscenes and absurd matches. I hated the wrestlemania match against mcmahon.

The 2009 mobile version even had a story mode where you could decide to quit even before you reach the Hall of Fame status. Granted, it’s just a bunch of matches with ratings by the end of the bout.

SvR 2008 was the first wrestling game I ever played and it was what led me to discover wrestling WWE. When I was a kid, I was at a relative's house and I happened to stumble upon them playing SvR 2008 on PS2. At that point, I didn't know anything about WWE. I ended up playing a couple of matches as well, and it led me to want to get the game for myself. Fast forward to a couple of months later, I went to pick up my dad at a truck yard, as he was a truck driver at the time, and my dad had surprised me with SvR 2008. I was so shocked. I was like wow what are the chances? If I hadn't discovered SvR 2008. I probably wouldn't have gotten into WWE.

I agree. 08 had the weakest and bland songs in the soundtrack out of all the games. The previous games had such bangers but then this game played those songs too much and 09 and 10 used wrestlers theme songs included.

SvR 08 was not a great game but it wasn't a bad game either, I had allot of fun playing it back in the day. and I still play it from time to time It certainly doesn't deserve to be shit on. To me the most overlooked feature was the create a championship. Those created Championships looked like they were included with the game upon purchase. Also it was the first WWE game to feature the WCW Championship. as far as I know. and at the time I thought that that was pretty awesome.
GM Mode being removed wasn't a shock. No one cared about it until it was gone.
It never should of been removed they could of kept it the same as 2008 with some minor tweaks remove single branded pay per views and put 12 matches on pay per cards so each brand gets 4 matches, each brand has a elimination Chamber match at no way out or can put there superstars in other brands chambers and take the other world championships GMs for svr 2009 Raw Shane or Stephanie, smackdown Vickie Guerrero, ECW Teddy long, svr 2010 Raw Vickie Guerrero, smackdown Teddy long, ECW Tiffany ect
WCW Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy, Smackdown 2, HCTP, SvR 06-07, WWE 13, 2K14 are the best wrestling games for me.

The modern day GM Mode is called MyGM, there is an ECW branded DLC for 2K24 called the ECW Punk Pack which features; The Dudley Boyz, The Sandman, Terry Funk and CM Punk (who was won the brand version of the ECW Championship in September 2007 defeating John Morrision in a Last Chance match for the title and would still be the champion by the time SVR08 was released in November)

I know this game gets bashed on but this is my favorite one in the whole series. Was my first wwe game with a bunch of sick modes and the roster I grew up on (exception of guys like Kurt angle) and the soundtrackk. Even The graphics are better here than 2k14

This game was developed in 2007, and WWE had a great roster back then.
