You Ryane Calme should be rewarded for your knowledge & this fantastic video! This should be taught to all VW dealerships and their technicians. It solved my problem on this super annoying noise that came right behind my 2008 VW Rabbit's glove compartment. I initially followed another UA-cam video and cleaned/lubed my blower fan motor assembly under the glove compartment, but didn't solve my problem. The noise would come back every time the Ignition was turned to on position and lasted up to 10 seconds. With your video, I went straight to the source of noise and simply disconnected the plug to the Recirculator Flap Motor. NOISE IS GONE FOREVER! Thank you, Thank you Thank you... Note: It's best to change the motor, but in my case, after I disconnected the RFM plug, I turned the car on with A/C and everything was working as normal, even the air ducts were changing position. Only the air recirculation system stopped working and that can be fixed by replacing the motor for $65 on OEM parts and $29 aftermarket part on ebay.

YOU DON'T NEED TO REPLACE THE PART!!!
thank you for the great video.
The part is repairable easily. If you open it with a flat head you will see whats wrong. The small motor inside is not sitting right and the gears are bearly in contact with each other, thats why you get that annoying noise. All i did was push the little motor back in place and placed a small piece of paper on top of the little motor to make sure it doesn't pop out of its place, and then i closed it up. And it worked really good. Cost me $0.

Thank you for making this video! One hour later I had everything working and reassembled. I ended up carefully opening the motor assembly and finding the first worm gear was slipping (it made the same noise as in your video). The gear teeth all looked intact with no damage or missing material. Compressing the casing from outside seemed to cure things, so I shaved about 1/64" down in the plastic radius that receives the motor axle/bearing with a chisel tip. To compensate for this I added a thin, single ~3/4" x ~1/2" slice cut from hard plastic packaging behind the motor housing to help spring down on the motor's front end. Also, I moved some existing grease around to be sure everything was lubricated. It works 100% now, and hopefully this will last another 7 years.

Thank you for posting this video. I have a 2008 Jetta 2.0T and was having this issue for quite some times. My mechanic thought it was the blower motor, but he wasn't sure! He said I should just live with the problem since the car already 9 years old. I then went to the web to research for info and lucky your video save the day. I ordered the part on eBay ($19) and took me just over an hour to do the job. Thanks again👌

Thank you so much for this video ! I don't have a vast knowledge of repairing cars, but after watching this, I found the part in a junkyard in a car that already had the glove box removed. I paid $12 for it, and it took me about 40 min to put it in, and have everything back in place !

Thanks for this video, Ryan! I had this problem with my 2008 Jetta 2.5. The VW place near my house, which does a wonderful job btw, wanted $280 to fix it ($240 was just the part). That place is great, but my jaw about hit the floor when they told me how much it was to replace a little servo motor. So I told them thanks for confirming my suspicion, but I'll just get the part online and do it myself. Sure enough the "genuine" VW part is like $250+ online. So I picked up a generic part that does the same thing for about $20 off eBay, fired up your video, and 15 minutes later the thing works like a charm!

Thanks for the easy to follow procedure. My flap was stuck open in recirculation mode, which was causing major problems with fogging and icing inside my car this winter, like I've never seen before. I had to scrape the windows on the inside most days and sometimes the ice build-up was so bad, I couldn't open the windows or sunroof.
Looks like the motor wiring was either loose or the motor itself was starting to go, since at first the flap didn't move. When I moved the wires a little, the flap then closed. However, after testing the recirc button another couple of times, it would stick a little and the motor made a buzzing sound. I ended up putting the flap in normal mode (ie: closed) and then disconnected the wiring so it'll stay in that position. I'll order a new motor and change it in the spring time. Thanks again.

great video - i replaced mine today. We had a break in the winter weather, so i bought my motor from the VW dealer, the new P/N is 5Q0-907-511-H, this did not come with the large plastic gear, but it was easy enough to transfer from the broken motor. i would add the step about cycling the vent switch before installing the motor, as it resets the position prior to meshing the gears, but otherwise, an excellent video - you never know where all those screws are hiding.

Great video, very easy to follow. I opened the motor apart, found the problem was the gear on the motor was not sitting properly with the gear at the bottom. I put 3 layers of duck tape on top of the motor to push it down and put it back together. Problem fixed. Saved me $138.00 on motor and few bucks if I took it to a mechanic. Thanks.

    OEM part No. 1K0907511C
BEHR part No. 1KD907511B or 1KD907511C
Not sure what the difference is between BEHR part numbers (B vs C) but the B appears to be more prevalent and cheaper. I used the 511B, it was a perfect fit and worked like a charm.

Great video bro! I had a quick question would this motor cause my air not to blow at all? I replaced my blower motor already but it still doesn't work. :/

this system is designed to suck in air from another vent so you wont breathe in the harmful air when you reverse. At least that's what they were designed the system for. The door in the video which the motor opens and closes is probably stuck in a position the air is not moving correctly.

Awesome! Thank you for posting. I lived with the buzzing for a few weeks before figuring out what it was and waiting for the replacement to come in. In the meantime, my battery has been drained completely...do you think these are related??

Thanks Ryan. I have a 2008 Jetta and that noise has been bothering us for over a year. What year was the Jetta you made the repair on?

Where would the vent selector motor be located? I have a problem with not being able to select the feet option. It only blows onto torso and windshield.

Thank you so much for this video! I ordered the part off of EBay for about 25.00 from buyer "yuliu82". "OEM Re Rirculation Flap Motor for Volkswagen VW Jetta Golf MK5 MK6 1KD907511B". Don't let the shipping times scare you. It got to me in about 10-12 days.
The video led me through this with ease. The ONLY thing that gave me any grief was replacing the panel below the controls (at about 1:00 in the video). The "hook" portion aligned great, but the "tab/insert" pieces refused to seat. I took a beefy flat blade screwdriver, wrapped it in a dishcloth (so not to scratch the panel), aligned the blade under the tabs, and used the console "arms" as leverage to apply pressure. Snapped into place. Thanks again, Ryan!
