I hope you enjoy this quiet Sunday walk in the British Seaside resort of Southend on sea, filmed in Springtime. We welcome any comments about Southend, or the channel in general. (We especially hope our walks are of some help to those who can't get out). Please do subscribe to help keep this little channel going. We still have several month's worth of footage stored and we'll be uploading 2 every week as usual.
I studied at Southend College of Technology in 1986 and did my O & A level as Overseas Student from Hong Kong. Why chosen Southend because of my sister married to my brother in law and he had been running a chinese restaurant at that time. The walk path of Westcliff on sea is the exact where I had been hanging around alone without knowing any friends when I first came to Southend the feeling was not very good as a teenage left all the friends and all the way from Hong Kong.!! Even so I enjoy the video and it brings me a presious memories.

Well hello there YW, yes I was born here and Mike moved down over 20 years ago. I certainly do know the pearl Dragon well. Was that your brother in laws?
@@LivingWalks hi Mike My sister's family moved to Ipwich for more than 30 years no longer living in Southend. And I studied at Hatfield Polytechnic from 1989. I had been back in Hong Kong for 30 years this July. And of course within the Chinese communities the owner of Pearl Dragon is my extended extended and extended relative.

Hi 4kE. Good to hear from you. I have to say I do quite like the atmosphere with the arcades closed. The ice cream parlours and some chip shops and coffee shops are opening though, so just enough to give it a bit of life. How are things in your neck of the woods? @@LivingWalks Thank you. I lived in Leigh-on-Sea myself, just off The Broadway, for a number of years. When the mood and weather took us, we'd walk all the way from Old Leigh to Southend Pier and get the bus back.

Hello, dearest Renata, All is fine with us and it's good to hear the situation has improved a lot in your region, Thank goodness. Now as you say you have to see if the reopening of the activities will have caused a deterioration. We too are in the same situation, but it looks like we also locked down too late and now things are taking a lot longer to clear for the uk. For us in our area, we are not too bad, but I still feel for those in bigger cities. As you say all we can do is hope for the best ... So pleased you liked the walk by the sea, it's close to our home town and it's def' a popular destination for a visit from London, as it's only a 40 min' train ride away. Well this comments section is quite fascinating, as it is an open door to all sorts of "walking youtubers". I see that you are all part of a very supportive fraternity. I've just subscribed, and will explore all your friend's uploads too. As I mentioned in my reply on another travel video (cab view) to your comment; that Nursing Homes could use your videos for stimulating memory and interpersonal communications. Google Earth Street View (plus history articles and associated links) make these types of videos an extraordinary experience that can occupy one's mind for hours at a stretch.

The company that expressed interest in your Living Walks for nursing homes has got the right idea Mike. Well worth following up I'd say, as its hard to get such a conversation initiated in the first place. Certainly there's a wealth of "travel vision" by _narrowboaters_ like *Cruising the Cut* or _sailors_ like *RAN Sailing* and *La Vagabonde* or even the _first person aerial viewpoint_ of drone footage that shows a bird's eye view. However they are not quite in the style of "Slow Vision", which is where walking videos such as yours fit the bill in my mind. They give the viewer a critical aspect, and that is "enough time to think", which of course allows the viewer to bring back their own memories without suddenly being assailed with a quick edit, a different camera angle, some loud noises or blasting music, all of which interrupt their thought processes and create anxiety and agitation. I'm of the opinion that theres a whole new world of possibilities that you can explore for such viewers placed in confinement for whatever reason. A new genre of vision!

Hi yes, we filmed it last year, late Springtime. There are a few kiosks open, selling the things you mention.
