- Horton Plaza just might the most unusual mall you've ever seen. At once whimsical and downright baffling, this multi-level outdoor complex mimics some bizarro European villa, with nooks and crannies to be discovered. It's cool, and a genuine tourist attraction. Horton Plaza's construction in the mid-1980s jump-started the Gaslamp renaissance. Its multi-level, somewhat confusing whimsical architecture is a must-see for any San Diego visitor. Nordstrom, Macy's and a wide array of shops and eateries make this the noontime stop for downtown workers.
One of the many reasons I fell in love with SD. *sigh*
Almost 10 years later and this mall is incredibly tragic. More than half of these businesses are now gone. Talk about a dead mall :(
Victor,your MESSAGE SUMS IT UP!
While stationed in the Navy from '97-'01 and '03-'05 Horton Plaza was my primary haunt! I saw countless movies at their Cineplex!
Omg i miss home :) family used to come here all the time when i was little.. So much memories.. Still go there to this day
I went there once. This is a very nicely made video. Thank you for sharing.
Yep you are right about that lol! damn I miss this place , I got out of the COrps in 1990 I really want to go back and visit this mall. Lots of memories !
Walked through there today. Nothing left except MACY'S. Starbucks across from MACY'S left a few weeks ago. The escalators still operate, but the entire place is 95% empty. This mall was a big deal in the 80s when it was built. It was a masterpiece for downtown redevelopment at that time.
2019. The Mall is history. I remember it back when it was built
same 1999 2009 ladt visited 2014
This mall is so dead now.
♥ Horton Plaza!
I watched this video years ago & it made me want to go here bad lol. Now I live very close to SD & I've been seeing comments about this mall being dead now 🤐.
i was there opening week in 1985, I was in high school, Horton Plaza was a popular place for high schoolers to hang out
One of the last few years before everyone had a phone in front of their faces but this wasn't that long ago. Damn I miss this era.
So sad to see what happened to Horton Plaza. I used to work at the Macy’s in 2007 and 2008. I remember the summers being packed with people. Thanks for sharing this.
S A L,your MESSAGE SUMS IT UP!
The first mall I visited in San Diego when I moved back in 2002 😢
Now this mall is completely dead and about to be turned into an office complex for startup companies. What a damn shame.
I was last there on Thursday August 4,2005 and saw the movie "Wedding Crashers!"
This was a different time and I miss it. My Horton Plaza video is from mid 2018...
just memories 😔
This footage is a mere 13 years old but appears to be ANCIENT HISTORY!
Damn good old days such a shame it's now an empty shadow of it's former glory.
Omg the dog is a great dane it a very big dog
No high end customers by this time obviously.😒
Yo i found so many people i knew in this video ! Wow thats crazy i would always come here everyday

I think this is the one I went to before looks like it idk. Trying to find the mall.
this just saddens me. it feels like our culture has been hollowed out. this looked like such a nice place, a cultural hub, now empty.
